I absolutely loved my stay with Jane and Ken and all the animals. From the moment I spoke with Jane over Facetime, I knew I was in good hands. She is the warmest, kindest soul and both her and Ken treated me like family. Jane showed me all the tasks she does everyday to care for the alpacas, llamas, goats, two dogs and a pony and gave me the
… read more freedom to pick and choose what I liked doing best. I was able to help her with tasks she doesn't know how to do like website maintenance, creating flyers and carrying out anything computer related. The work never felt too much and there was plenty of time to relax and enjoy the surroundings. She was always so appreciative of my help, thanking me everyday and making sure I felt comfortable being there. They were both keen on getting me to see outside of their home and explore the surrounding area but since it was winter, cold and wet, I was happy to hang around their home. Jane and Ken are both great cooks and I really valued our dinners together swapping stories and sharing cultural differences. I learned a lot about British slang and food, living on a farm, picking up poo (I now understand where the term 'pooped' out comes from) and their Saturday night ritual of pizza and chips. Also, they were so accommodating and helpful, on the last day, they made dinner much earlier so they could take me to the train station in time. I couldn't have asked for a better first workaway experience! I hope to come back in the summer! Jane offered me a variety of works that had to be done and I could chose what I would like to do, which was so nice. I helped with taking care of the animals, cutted plants, sanded and painted a commode, did some paintings for them and tried me best to help out with their grandchildren ;)
Their little smallholding is a very lovely place to be and the animals are simply adorable.

Ellie and Joe were a delight to have staying with us. They worked independently and are both very practical people. During their stay they repaired/ replaced fencing for an entire paddock working really well as a team. They joined in with whatever jobs were needed and were excellent company.
