Hi! 😊 I'm Karina, and I've dedicated over 20 years to rescuing and caring for animals. Our Free Spirit Horse Refuge is located in the mountains of Atzeneta del Maestrat (Castellón), where rescued horses, ponies, a donkey, piglets, and dogs live. Now we're starting a new chapter: improving the living conditions of our animals and creating more suitable spaces for volunteers, using natural building techniques, natural materials, and recycled resources. We want to build small shelters, improve facilities, and gradually transform this place with the help of people who want to learn, create, and share. We're not just looking for helping hands, but for people with sensitivity, initiative, respect for nature, and a desire to contribute something beautiful. We'd love to share a little bit of our mountain life with you! ❤️🌿

¡Hola! 😊 Soy Karina y llevo más de 20 años dedicada al rescate y cuidado de animales.
Nuestro Refugio Caballo Espíritu Libre está situado en plena montaña, en Atzeneta del Maestrat (Castellón), donde viven caballos, ponis, un burrito, cerditos y perros rescatados.
Ahora comenzamos una nueva etapa: mejorar las condiciones de vida de nuestros animales y crear espacios más adecuados para los voluntarios, utilizando técnicas de bioconstrucción, materiales naturales y recursos reciclados.
Queremos construir pequeños refugios, mejorar instalaciones y transformar poco a poco este lugar con la ayuda de personas que quieran aprender, crear y compartir.
No buscamos únicamente manos para trabajar, sino personas con sensibilidad, iniciativa, respeto por la naturaleza y ganas de aportar algo bonito.

Aquí tendrás la oportunidad de aprender bioconstrucción de manera práctica, compartir conocimientos y descubrir cómo mejorar espacios utilizando materiales naturales y reciclados.
También podrás conocer de cerca la vida de los animales rescatados y aprender sobre sus cuidados y necesidades.

🌿 BIOCONSTRUCTION: LEARNING BY DOING We are looking for volunteers eager to learn and participate in our bioconstruction projects. We have people with expertise in these techniques who will guide us as we build and improve the shelter's spaces. We will also organize bioconstruction workshops that volunteers can attend free of charge. Activities include preparing and repurposing materials, reusing wood and pallets, working with stone, earth, and other natural elements, building small shelters, and improving the facilities. 🐴 ANIMAL CARE We also contribute to the well-being of the animals, primarily by cleaning their enclosures, caring for their environment, and making small improvements to ensure they live better lives. 🌿 BIOCONSTRUCCIÓN: APRENDER HACIENDO
Buscamos voluntarios con ganas de aprender y participar en nuestros proyectos de bioconstrucción.
Contamos con personas que tienen conocimientos en estas técnicas y que nos guiarán mientras construimos y mejoramos los espacios del refugio.
También organizaremos talleres de bioconstrucción en los que los voluntarios que estén colaborando con nosotros podrán participar gratuitamente.
Las actividades incluyen preparar y recuperar materiales, reutilizar madera y palés, trabajar con piedra, tierra y otros elementos naturales, construir pequeños refugios y mejorar las instalaciones.
🐴 CUIDADO DE LOS ANIMALES
También colaboramos en el bienestar de los animales, principalmente limpiando sus espacios, cuidando su entorno y realizando pequeñas mejoras para que vivan cada vez mejor.
Cada día es diferente y nos adaptamos a lo que necesita el refugio en ese momento.

Unterkunft
🏡 We offer very simple accommodation in the heart of the mountains. Volunteers can sleep in our dome, sharing the space with others, or bring their own tent, caravan, or campervan. We have a very basic kitchen, composting toilet, and Wi-Fi. Currently, we don't have hot water. We are improving the facilities, so conditions may change as the projects progress. Meals are organized among the volunteers themselves. Once a week, we organize a trip to do the shopping. It's important to come prepared for a simple, shared life in direct contact with nature. And we have a whole mountain to enjoy! 🌿

🏡 Ofrecemos alojamiento muy sencillo en plena montaña.
Los voluntarios pueden dormir en nuestro domo , compartiendo el espacio con otras personas, o venir con su propia tienda de campaña, caravana o furgoneta camper.
Disponemos de una cocina muy básica, baño seco y wifi. Actualmente no tenemos agua caliente.
Estamos mejorando las instalaciones, así que las condiciones pueden ir cambiando según avancen los proyectos.
La alimentación se organiza entre los propios voluntarios. Una vez por semana organizamos una salida para hacer la compra.
Es importante venir preparado para una vida sencilla, compartida y en contacto directo con la naturaleza.

❤️ VOLUNTEERING WITHOUT CHORES: ENJOY THE MOUNTAINS AND HELP THE ANIMALS
You can also come and spend a few days at the sanctuary without any chores or responsibilities.
We simply ask that, before you arrive, you organize a small fundraiser among your friends, family, or acquaintances. All proceeds will go entirely toward feeding our animals.
This way, you can enjoy nature, relax, and spend time with the animals—and if you ever feel like joining us for an activity, you’re more than welcome!
🚐 DO YOU HAVE A VAN?
We are also looking for volunteers who can come with their own van and help us with transport about 3–4 times a week—picking up donations, pallets, or materials, or taking items to the recycling center.
The sanctuary covers the fuel costs for these trips, and the rest of your time is your own.
🎨 DO YOU HAVE AN ARTISTIC TALENT?
If you have artistic or creative skills you’d like to share with us, we’d love to hear your ideas!
📍 HOW TO GET HERE
We are located near Atzeneta del Maestrat (Castellón). You can take a bus from Castellón to the village, but the sanctuary is another 15-minute drive away, so it’s important to arrange your arrival in advance.

❤️ VOLUNTARIADO SIN TAREAS: DISFRUTA DE LA MONTAÑA Y AYUDA A LOS ANIMALES
También puedes venir a pasar unos días al refugio sin tener tareas ni responsabilidades.
Solo te pedimos que, antes de venir, organices una pequeña recaudación solidaria entre tus amigos, familiares o conocidos. Todo lo recaudado se destinará íntegramente a la alimentación de nuestros animales.
Así podrás disfrutar de la naturaleza, descansar, compartir momentos con los animales y, si algún día te apetece acompañarnos en alguna actividad, ¡serás bienvenido!
🚐 ¿TIENES UNA FURGONETA?
También buscamos voluntarios que vengan con su propia furgoneta y puedan ayudarnos aproximadamente 3-4 veces por semana con transportes: recoger donaciones, palés, materiales o llevar cosas al punto limpio.
El refugio cubre la gasolina de estos desplazamientos y el resto del tiempo es libre.

📍 CÓMO LLEGAR
Estamos cerca de Atzeneta del Maestrat (Castellón). Se puede llegar en autobús desde Castellón hasta el pueblo, pero el refugio está a unos 15 minutos más en coche, por lo que es importante organizar previamente la llegada.
