  Our association is a non-profit association, founded in January 22, 2002 with the mission of raising awareness among children and young people to the European dimension in which they are citizens of the future, through meetings and activities aimed at raising awareness of diversity and individuality through the integration of groups from various countries in Europe.
  
  The discovery of Europe in terms of historical, cultural, natural and social; communication with other people overcoming language and cultural barriers; reflection on their own socio-cultural reality, comparing it to other different; the development of sociability attitudes, tolerance, cooperation and habits of responsibility and autonomy, encouraging the exchange of ideas and experiences relevant to the dissemination of Europe.
  
  Being an association located in a village, Hives, which is situated 15km from Leiria, the village is largely rural and its people have a social and diversified economic status. Some are also assisted by the social services of the locality while others have specific integration needs.
  
  In this context, our association defines some activities aimed at learning and practice of local citizenship, regional, national and European as a bet to succeed in life, promoting development and social, economic, cultural and environmental community where it operates.
  
  To achieve the stated purposes, the association promotes actions in different areas, namely:
  - Protection and enhancement of rural areas;
  - Valuing non-formal education;
  - Gender equality;
  - Equal opportunities;
  - Civic and Community Participation;
  - Features and Capabilities Local and entrepreneurship.
  Consolidating the above, it provides and holds meetings for the establishment of the coordinating team of the projects and contacts with the participants; meetings with the Local Government; working sessions with young people (activities planning, task assignment ...); event organization.
   In short, intervention, and with young people it is made through a multidisciplinary approach involving multiple partners and promotes participatory work with schools (protocol with the Hives Group of Schools and Kindergartens / ATL's), Local Authorities, and other associations and / or social welfare institutions.

  Nossa Associação é uma associação sem fins lucrativos, constituída em 22 de janeiro de 2002 com a missão de sensibilizar as crianças e os jovens para a dimensão europeia na qual eles serão os cidadãos do futuro, através de encontros e atividades que visam a tomada de consciência da diversidade e da sua individualidade através da integração de grupos de vários países da Europa; a descoberta da Europa ao nível do património histórico, cultural, natural e social; a comunicação com outros povos ultrapassando barreiras linguísticas e culturais; a reflexão sobre a sua própria realidade sociocultural, comparando-a com outras diferentes; o desenvolvimento de atitudes de sociabilidade, de tolerância, de cooperação e de hábitos de responsabilidade e de autonomia, estimulando o intercâmbio de ideias e de experiências relevantes para a divulgação da Europa.
  
  Sendo uma associação localizada numa aldeia, Colmeias, que se situa a 15km de Leiria, a aldeia é essencialmente rural e os seus habitantes apresentam um status social e económico diversificado. Alguns são também, auxiliados pelos serviços sociais da localidade enquanto outros, têm necessidades específicas de integração. Neste contexto, nossa associação para a Descoberta da Europa, define algumas atividades que visam a aprendizagem e a prática da cidadania local, regional, nacional e europeia como uma aposta para vencer na vida, promovendo o desenvolvimento e a coesão social, económica, cultural e ambiental da comunidade onde está inserida.
  Para a concretização dos fins enunciados, a nossa associação promove ações em diferentes áreas, nomeadamente:
  - Defesa e valorização do mundo rural;
  - Valorização da educação não formal;
  - Igualdade de Género;
  - Igualdade de oportunidades;
  - Participação Cívica e Comunitária;
  - Recursos e Potencialidades Locais, e empreendedorismo.
  Consolidando o exposto, proporciona e realiza reuniões para a criação da equipa coordenadora dos projetos e contatos com os jovens participantes; reuniões com o Poder Local; sessões de trabalho com os jovens (planificação de atividades, atribuição de tarefas…); organização de eventos.
  Em suma, a intervenção de, e com os jovens, é feita através de um trabalho multidisciplinar que envolve vários parceiros e promove o trabalho participativo com escolas (protocolo com o Agrupamento de Escolas de Colmeias e Jardins de Infância/ATL's), Poder Local, e com outras Associações e/ou Instituições de Solidariedade Social.

  With this project is expected to increase the skills of all involved. It is hoped that this experience will strengthen solidarity, dialogue and tolerance, cultural, ecological and language, and that this be reflected in the intervention community, contributing to strengthening social cohesion and promoting active citizenship.
  
  It is hoped that contributing to the objectives of the Volunteer, the community (rural) location can also gain knowledge of other cultures, languages ​​and ways of being. As for the Volunteer is expected that their solidarity contribution is a precursor agent of that solidarity and civic participation in the community, taking motivation and professional knowledge and encouragement of sharing and participation in other projects, making use of this opportunity in order to enhance their way of life and broaden their horizons.
  
  As recipients of the project children, young and old, it is considered that the approach to different social and cultural realities constitute a broadening of horizons and to learn and / or improve skills of autonomy, exploration, self esteem and sharing.
  
  Also for adults and local community, are expected to demonstrate satisfaction and pride to live with these young people of different nationalities, cultures and languages.

  The Voluntary activity to be held in Portugal in Colmeias, a village near the city of Leiria, and the sea.
  It is expected that they are specially keen for working with children, young people and older people, and also to be sensitive to environmental and ecological sustainability issues.
  
  It will be very important that these volunteers are creative and communicative with “appetite” for arts, musical and drama, technologies and multimedia, but also versatile, with a special taste for working in a multidisciplinary team and who people who want to experience rural and biological agriculture work. Their qualifications will not be a determining factor.
  
  There are a number of planned activities. Volunteers will be placed throughout the week on the physical spaces of those different activities, in order to deepen and enrich their voluntary service. These are: confection of bread and traditional cakes in a traditional oven and perform tasks related to organic / permaculture agriculture.
  
  The purpose of these tasks are to improve the life’s quality of the villages’ seniors in order to fight their isolation and make them happier, by improving their bio-psycho-social well-being. This will promote a proper and dignifying aging for the seniors and provide qualified monitoring inserted in a family environment.
  
  They will also support the organization on the realization of art activities, recycling and crafts, help with their themed events (Pumpkin Festival, Cupcake Day, Christmas, Carnival, Easter, Traditional celebrations and village’s religious holidays, etc.).
  
  The project will give them the opportunity to meet and interact with the rural everyday reality from education, to civic and social service, environmental issues, leisure and health, agriculture and food, and customs and traditions. This will be done through observation and participation in many workshops, recycling and walks to discover the natural heritage of the village. Also by harvesting edible wild flowers, leisure activities, language workshops, organic farming, baking bread, and/or baking traditional cakes in the traditional oven…
  
  In terms of learning skills (acquired through the Voluntary Service), it is the host’s job to enable the volunteer in acquiring knowledge in multidisciplinary teamwork, planning, as well as the acquisition of language skills in order to promote social inclusion and education methodologies. These education methodologies are non-formal and personal, and include social skills (for instance, by performing games and group dynamics or workshops, artistic skills, craft and techniques of agroecology and permaculture).
  
  In the long term, this experience will increase citizenship notion and participation in volunteering activities that will encourage on these volunteers to think about their own local issues, traditional values, entrepreneurship and environmental sustainability.
