A small hotel located in downtown Turrialba. Many of our guests are staying here for the spectacular white water rafting or wanting to climb the Turrialba volcano.
Also many locals stay here that need to be in town for business. For this reason Spanish is a requisite for volunteers and a great opportunity for you to become more fluent.
UPDATE: starting January 2022 all guests and volunteers need to be fully vaccinated according to new CR government rule.
We are a very small team and share a passion in meeting and socializing with people from different cultures and backgrounds.
There are 10 rooms in total, 2 terraces and a little garden. Turrialba is a busy little city and not touristy which makes it more authentic and you get a taste of real Costarican life. Restaurants, bars, supermarkets and bakeries are all at walking distance. Our one and only permanent resident is Pepper, our adorable house cat.
Our project: we are transitioning from being a hostel to a Hotel & Tourist Information Centre. We continously strive to offer the best service to our guests and are always improving and brainstorming new ideas. Also we want to show people the many activities this town has to offer and make their stay so much worthwhile.

You will get experience in managing a small hotel in downtown Turrialba and get a chance to do many out-door activities. In all my travels around Costa Rica I haven't found a place to learn more about Costarican culture as in Turrialba. The city is not built on tourism like many other places and is very authentic. Here you will still feel as the only foreigner in town. A great place to pick-up on your Spanish as not many people speak English. If you want to become more fluent, this is the place to be. People are very welcoming and friendly and are easy to talk to. Every Friday and Saturday there is a fruit and veggie market where all farmers from the surrounding area sell their produce and you get to taste fruits and veggies you have maybe never seen before. Also Turrialba is famous for the Turrialba cheese which is made on the slopes of the volcano. La 'ruta de queso' (the cheese route) is called because of that and besides is a beautiful area to hike as it has stunning views of the valley and the village. In the Talamanca mountains, a 2 hour busride from Turrialba you can find the indigenous villages of the Cabecar people.
We hope you can stay 2 months or longer and immerse yourself in Costa rican culture, get valuable experience in hotel customer service & management and enjoy all the outdoor activities in your free time and make this workaway an experience you will keep fond memories of :)
A good level of the Spanish language and good customer service skills is a must. Previous hotel experience in customer service/receptiondesk is a big PLUS. We are also always looking for ppl with management experience.
Important qualities to volunteer for us is to be self-motivated, very sociable and kind, you like to be of service to people, you have positive energy, a commitment to contribute to the friendly atmosphere and also wanting to be part of making this hotel a wonderful place.
The day to day tasks of the hotel consist of welcoming our new guests, doing the check-in process and help them with organizing their tours but also helping with laundry, the garden, social media and the cleaning. We all multitask and we take pride in our reputation of being one of the cleanest hotels.
If interested please add your current location, date of availability, main skills, age and intended length of stay.
If you have a Whatsapp number please include that in your message.
PS if you are looking for just a cheap place to stay and party.. this is not it.
A private room with private bathroom if available. In high season you might share with other volunteers.
You get to use all the communal areas, the fully equipped kitchen, the chill garden and the rooftop terrace.
It is easy to reach us as public buses go hourly either friom San Jose (2 hours) as from the Caribbean coast (3 hours).
You will have plenty of free time in which you can do tours in the area, go white water rafting, hike up the volcano, bike, visit one of the waterfalls or the Guayabo archaeological park or... just relax in one of the hammocks on our roofterrace :)
We have to be strict in taking care of the health of our guests and of our staff. We also get regular visits from the Costarican Health department. This means wearing a mask at all times when in common areas or interacting with others.
