Jules is an amazing young man! He took on anything I told him and made it his routine for all of his stay at my place in Portugal. He really made sure to please me in any way and find out how I wanted things to be done. He diligently cleaned out brush and branches of my big property and had a good time doing it. Each day he changed after work to
… read more sit down in the living room and practice guitar. He leaves everything clean and we also had a great time together in the evenings playing backgammon where his competitive side came out (we also played Padel one time) though he otherwise is very calm and gentle. We laughed a lot and I miss him already.

i recently stayed with Jan at his home in portugal - Jan is a kind and generous host and the work was enjoyable and not too difficult. would definitely recommend!

I had a great time staying at Jan's incredible place in Portugal.
Really the pictures of the house and the surroundings doesn't do it justice, you have to go and see for yourself :)
Jan is a calm and intelligent guy, we had a lot of fun joking around and spending time together, going on roadtrips to nearby towns, parks and cafes, morning walks
… read more and runs on the beach, cooking dinner, sitting on the kitchen floor and watching the dough rise through in the oven, he also brought me with him to play padel, which was a first time for me.
(And i showed him how its done, right Jan?)
I was doing very simple tasks helping him out with whatever he needed and he was always there, working with me and helping.
After finishing the work the rest of the day was free to fill with whatever we wanted, especially watching movies in the evenings, enjoying music, playing board games.
It didn't feel like i was a workaway, but more like a friend who's come over for a short while to give a helping hand and spend a good time together.

Ernest´s stay was short but sweet. He was very attentive and supportive in any way. We were cleaning the house including all the big windows and he did an excellent job! He is generous, balanced and fun to be around, giving me space, when I needed it and baring with my weaknesses.

… read more some good conversations and we were sharing an interest in good music. He is a good allrounder for any project I would say, because he is very interested in almost any kind of work. Jan is really a kind person. i would say that at the begining you can feel that he's a bit reserved but in reality he's very attentive and makes sure you feel comfortable in his home. He also has a great sense of humour, maybe a german one, and loves good things in life. Good music (he's an expert), good films. In short, it was a great experience and I wouldn't hesitate to come back and say hello to see how he's doing! The work and conditions are also quite clearly defined and not too complicated. Knowing that he always looks after your well-being. In short, if you want a nice retirement and to help a man while sharing nice moments with him, don't hesitate!

I spent just two weeks with Jan and his aunt but I had a lovely time in their company! Jan is very hospitable and I immediately felt very welcome and comfortable in their home. … read more out to eat or for example buying me gloves when I needed a pair, but more importantly was generous with his time. We engaged in a variety of fun activities together over the two weeks, such as backgammon, badminton, watching movies, singing and playing the guitar, but also taking the electric bikes and exploring hilltops and cities in the area. The work was also interesting, mostly outside trying to help in the garden but also incredibly rewarding work in clearing out and organising the barn. Jan also helped me out a lot in bike repairs and made most of the work fun. He's also a great cook and we made great meals together, he also baked delicious bread and Apfelstrudel! Jamie was our first volunteer for our house and garden project here. There couldn't have been a better fit!
Although young, he's extraordinarily well-mannered and pleasant to be around. Because of his kindness and gentleness, we could focus on having fellowship with each other and work became just a part of it. He performed every given task with
… read more skill and a cheerful attitude. There were some unpleasant projects, like cleaning out the barn and moving a heavy stove to the first floor, which I would never even have started without his positive influence. At some point, the options were eating ice-cream or getting the stove up the stairs: he chose the latter!
We would have liked him to extend his time with us but sadly, he had to leave. I fairly enjoyed our hikes and bike rides together, the cooking and baking, singing, badminton, tennis and backgammon. But foremost, our conversations about different aspects of life. He seemed genuinely interested and asked very thoughtful questions. I hope to have gained a friend and would like to see him again some day!

Spending a month together with René and Zorro was one of the best things ever happening to me! I wasn't so much in the mood to have guests when he contacted me but I gave it a try anyways: good for me! … read more humor and we could share a lot of thoughts. He respected all the rules of the house which is kind of complicated. We were taking walks, sometimes just me and Zorro, because René wanted to get the work done he had started.... even went swimming in the ocean which was risky at the time but I felt secure since he is very experienced life guard. As I said he was very active in the garden, a responsible and self motivated worker, enduring through long and physical demanding tasks. I would give him six stars if possible for his outstanding behavior! I actually miss him and this is not something I would write about anybody... sometimes I get irritated with people after a short while.... but not so with him... everything was on a volunteer base and we had lots of joy! So I hope that our paths would cross again one day to continue our friendship. Don't hesitate to let him in if he knocks at your door...

I spent almost 1 month with Jan at his wonderful place in Sao Marthino do porto. He opened his space for me and my dog Zorro, in a way that I felt very home from the beginning. … read more that I felt missing the feeling of time completely. We were listening always very good music and spent also beside the work a lot of quality time together. He has a good heart and is always trying to give you everything what you need to feel comfortable. The Balance between giving and receiving we could manage very well where I could feel, we both have enjoyed eachothers company very much. It was nice to experience that there are still nice people to meet who taking care of their health and opening their heart like you do know eachother since a longer time already.
I can fully recommend him as a host and a good friend. It was an amazing time which we had together, a period of my life which I wouldn't like to miss in my life. Let's see what life will bring us next, let's go with the flow.... thanks a lot again for everything: )

Massimiliano is good to be around and has generally a positive attitude towards life despite circumstances might not be always easy. He worked hard without complaining, is a good chef and conversation partner. He cooked a lovely good bye lasagna for us and we were sad to see him go, hopefully into a bright future!

Jan is very experienced about nutrition, cooking and especially baking bread - one of his passion is the tasty sourdough bread - and also about agriculture. He is also open to share his knowledge and experience which I found very interesting.
