Hi future friends!

We are Wonder and Angelu.

I (Wonder) am from the USA and Angelu is half Maltese and half Welsh.

I was born and raised in New York and moved to California when I was 19. I started traveling the world when I was 34 and have since been to over 40 countries.

I have a Bachelor's degree in restaurant management. Food and hospitality are two of my passions. I’m very comfortable greeting guests and taking care of their needs. I love being in the kitchen cooking up some good vegetarian food. (Angelu is a meat eater). I’ve worked on many organic farms and am passionate about growing food.

I lived for many years in an RV and also on a 35' converted school bus. I try to recycle, compost, live off the grid whenever possible, and generally try to respect nature, animals, other humans, etc.

Angelu was born in the UK and raised in Malta. He has traveled extensively in Europe. He speaks Maltese, Italian, Arabic and English. I speak Spanish.

Angelu excels at construction projects and any odd jobs you might have. He has built three of his own houses and knows the rudimentaries of plumbing and electrical. Give him tools and instructions and watch him go! He is great at building things and repairing things. He also likes to work on cars and is passionate about motorcycles as well. He also drives excavators and heavy equipment and is a concrete finisher.

We are both good at painting, interior and exterior. Some of our workaway projects have included building tables, sanding and painting, building a chicken coop, changing out light fixtures, cleaning, planting, weeding, cooking. We are open to anything really!

We are both very physically fit having worked out most of our lives.

I like to meditate, do yoga, and read. I can teach you yoga and meditation.

Both of us are hoping to find workaway opportunities that provide a community aspect. We hope to connect to people on a deep level, share thoughts, feelings, life stories and ultimately walk away friends forever!

We are both artists. I paint mandalas and Angelu makes copper wire sculptures and works with olive wood. We are both a bit of perfectionists and hold ourselves and any work we do to high standards. We take this approach in our workaway projects as well.

We bring a mature attitude, are honest and reliable and very clean and tidy. We are non-smokers and only drink occasionally. We like to have fun but our hard partying days are behind us! Lol. We like to play cards and board games.

We spent over a month helping Anna with her dogs and around the house and it was a beautiful, peaceful exchange.
Anna is a really good communicator and we got along really well.

The accommodations were wonderful! We stayed in her camper which was parked outside of the house. It was super comfortable and cozy and had everything! Water, dry toilet,… read more lights, and two comfy beds. The other accommodation is the guest room which is also super comfortable with a king size bed and spacious closets. No matter where you stay you will be very comfortable!

We helped with painting, weeding, watering the small garden, cleaning, and building shelves. Anna made sure we were happy to do all these things and provided everything we needed, even work clothes so we wouldn’t get paint on our own clothes.

We also helped with the dogs which was a super big help to Anna. In order for her to be able to leave the house for more than six hours, she needs someone to be there for the dogs. While we were there Anna had to fly to Germany to help care for her father so then our task was mainly taking care of the dogs. I would say that it would be ideal if you have some experience with dogs in order to walk her dogs because they are reactive to cats, goats, and other dogs. They are also strong dogs so if they spot a cat before you do they will go after it and so you need to pay attention so they don’t pull you. Anna took us on a walk around the neighborhood and pointed out all the places where we might encounter cats and other dogs. This was super helpful and we definitely recommend to do this with her.

We worked about three hours per day and therefore Anna did not provide our food. This we agreed upon together. But… we often did share meals together which was super nice. Anna is generous and caring in this regard. Lidl supermarket is walking distance which was great.

Anna also took us on various outings to cool places which was so nice and she offered us to use the camper and also her van if we wanted to go anywhere but we decided to rent a car for a few weeks instead and we had plenty of free time to explore lovely Mallorca.

Pollenca, the area where Anna lives is a really awesome part of the island and we felt really nice there with a beach super close by as well as the mountains.

If you are comfortable with big dogs we would highly recommend this workaway!

My husband and I volunteered here for a total of two months. For most of that time we were housesitting while the host was away, but for part of the time (approximately two weeks) the host was with us. The positive things about this stay were:
1) the room and private bathroom provided were large and well equipped and very clean. It should be noted… read more that there is no hot water. However this was not a problem for us because the days were hot and a cool shower was most welcome.
2) the island of Grenada is very beautiful and a great place to spend a few months.
3) The work requested was enjoyable and the host provided everything necessary to do the job.
4) The host is extremely clean and organized, which is a nice thing [redacted].
5) there was a washing machine which was great to have

Negative aspects of this stay were:
1) there was a BIG disagreement about the amount and type of food that would be provided. Originally we had agreed that the host would provide 100% for one of us and 50% for the other. (This was because originally, the host only wanted one volunteer). When we arrived the host informed us that that agreement had changed. We were surprised as we were never told about this change of plans. After much conversation (and disagreement), the host agreed to pay the equivalent of about seven US dollars per day ($3.50 each) for both me and my husband to buy groceries for ourselves. This turned out to be a lot less than what we thought would be provided so in the end, we ended up paying for almost all of our own food. Also, some of the food provided (dried pasta) was well past its expiration date (by three years) and when I pointed this out I was told it was still ok because it had been refrigerated the whole time.
2) My husband and I ended up renting a scooter for US$300 per month. Had we not had the scooter, it would have been a bit difficult to get around. There is a bus/shuttle system that runs on the island but there is a lot of traffic and getting back-and-forth to the beach and to the shops would have been very time consuming had we not had our own transportation
3) My husband was doing the work of a skilled laborer, such as constructing a hydroponic gardening system, repairing cement work on the ceilings, building a wall of cement blocks, and repairing leaks on the roof. He felt that his work was well appreciated by the host.

Perhaps due to cultural differences, or perhaps because our personalities clashed, and especially due to the conflict regarding the food, I did not feel appreciated by the host. We tried to talk about it and in the end our relationship was cordial.

My husband and I just finished up a three week stay, and it was one of our favorite workaways so far, and we’ve done lots of them! It has a very special vibe and energy. It seems to attract volunteers and guests who enjoy nature, healthy living, healthy eating, and adventure! Atlas and Ilir are two very special people who have managed to create a… read more very special place.

As a volunteer, there are two shifts, morning and afternoon. The morning shift starts at 6:30 AM and is in charge of making breakfast and monitoring breakfast until 10 AM and making sure everyone gets delicious food. Here you will learn how to make fresh bread which is made every morning. What I liked about making breakfast is that there are no hard and fast rules, only guidelines. If you have a special recipe that you want to make, you are more than welcome to do so. I made my special vegan zucchini banana muffins, which were a great hit every time. Besides making breakfast, the morning shift is responsible for watering the garden (from where we got much of the vegetables that we used in the kitchen), and making sure that the place is nice and clean when guests wake up. You also start the laundry for the day and get that going. After breakfast, the morning person makes sure that the kitchen is clean.

The afternoon shift starts at 11 and goes until 4 PM. The afternoon shift is responsible for cleaning the rooms after the guests check out and making sure that any rooms that guests are checking into are ready. They also continue with the laundry and are responsible for the deep cleaning of the bathroom and of the common living room area. Again, you are free to manage your day as you see fit as long as the major tasks get done. So much trust is given to the volunteers and you will never feel micromanaged. Both morning and afternoon shifts are also responsible for checking emails, and using the computer to enter reservations, check ins, and check outs.

My husband did lots of outdoor work, mainly using the weed whacker to clean up the area. He also did a lot of weeding and fixing small things that needed fixing. There were so many things going on on the property that it is likely that if you find a project that you want to do, you will be encouraged to do it. The beauty about this place is that the more you put into it, the more you will get out of it.

Atlas, as the person who manages the guests and the volunteers, has been there for two years and has really set up a very chill atmosphere for volunteers and guests alike. Here you will meet guests from all over the world and you can hang out with them during meals (the best vegan food you will encounter in Albania for sure, made with love!), and you can accompany them on hikes to the cave and the canyon, and definitely you’ll be making many friends. For those seeking adventure, there is a very large cave within 40 minutes walking distance, the river is 25 minutes away, and you can hike up-river into the canyon and find amazing cold, fresh water to swim in. You can combine these hikes into a loop which takes about four hours to complete and is quite adventurous.

There are two lovable dogs, and one lovable cat on the property if you are an animal lover. A small market and two restaurants are within a 10 minute walk. By the way, Atlas also feeds the volunteers on their days off which isn’t common with all workaways. Here you will feel like part of the family for sure.

All in all, our three weeks here were so relaxing and filled with fun, good people, good food, and adventure, and we would recommend this place to anyone who feels that they would fit with this vibe.

Our stay at Elona‘s guest house was a really fun and dynamic time. We stayed for two weeks and we parked our van in the camping area under a beautiful big oak tree. Sleeping there was so peaceful and we loved it. You can see the amount of love that Elona has put into this project. The garden was full of tomatoes and other veggies, and there were… read more apple trees and blackberry bushes. Many of the things that she uses in the kitchen are sourced locally, which was wonderful.

When we arrived, there were six puppies that Elona had rescued that had been abandoned on the road. Having them around made our experience very memorable and fun!

We got to meet and interact with all the guests who came and went, and we often had dinner with them as well.
By the way, you won’t go hungry here. A hearty sit down breakfast is served every day as well as dinner and we were welcome to rummage around in the fridge for leftovers whenever we wanted. Also fruit and tomatoes from the garden were always available. Thank you so much for making sure we never went hungry!

We helped out in various capacities, mostly in the kitchen washing dishes, serving and clearing the tables, and of course with feeding the puppies.

The kitchen is quite small and a bit hectic but once you get used to it, it’s all hands on deck all the time! Elona‘s mother and her aunt prep and cook all the meals. Unfortunately, their English is quite limited so even though we worked beside them all the time, we never really got to interact very much.

Two young Albanian, girls, Bleona (aka Steve…LOL) and Victoria 🌺 had the biggest impact on us. They are super smart, outgoing, hard-working girls who became like our surrogate daughters and friends. We laughed, talked, exchanged clothes, and even cried with them! They will forever be in our hearts.

On our last day when we were leaving, Bleona/Steve insisted that we stop by her house so that we could meet her family.

One thing that could have been better was the communication and organization. Often we didn’t really know what we were supposed to do and when we were supposed to do it so we had to ask. It seemed that sometimes Elona didn’t have a plan in mind. She is a sweet, quiet girl, who is very easy-going and definitely goes with the flow. We were always welcome to sit down with her and drink a coffee or a beer and have a little relax, which was nice.

Overall, our time spent there was very memorable, and we will never forget all the special people and puppies that we met!

My husband and I volunteered at this camp for a month and it was time well spent. It’s a great location just a short walk to the beach. The work is easy, enjoyable, and fair. My husband did the morning shift which was basically tidying up, sweeping, wiping tables, cleaning the bathrooms, washing breakfast dishes, and other projects like weeding or… read more raking. Occasionally he helped Ani with bigger projects like building a beach shade cover or weeding an overgrown parking area which was harder work out in the sun. I did the evening shift, which was helping prepare food in the kitchen, tidying up, and taking the dog for his hour walk on the beach 🐶 🏝️in the evening which was great fun. I also cleaned up after dinner, washing all the dishes, and sweeping and mopping the kitchen.

In return, we were fed amazingly well. A very nice breakfast and amazing dinners. You will not go hungry here. For lunch we were on our own, but since it is very hot, we didn’t eat much during the day. Basically just fruit and lots of water! There is a market just up the road where you can get everything you need.

The accommodations were also very nice. We had a cabin all to ourselves with very comfortable twin beds, and were provided with a fan. The shared bathroom is also very nice with hot showers available any time.

Another highlight are the turtles that live on the property. There are probably about 10 of them, ranging in size from babies to full grown. Feeding them fruits and veggies by hand every day was so fun!

Ani and Eris are a genuine, good-hearted, generous couple. We were often offered free beers, rakia, and were surprised to arrive home in the evening of our day off to a home cooked dinner which we did not expect and were very grateful for. 🙏🏻 ❤️
They are very conscious of the time that you work, and want to make sure that you rest and have fun on the hours that you are not working. We spent many evenings after dinner, talking and laughing, and feel that we truly arrived here as guests and are leaving as friends.

They have been running the campsite for seven years and everything is run quite orderly and organized. They explain in much detail how they want tasks to be completed and their guidelines are expected to be followed. Sometimes it felt like micromanagement or OCD but I do appreciate the structure that they have created in the way in which everything is done and how smoothly the place runs. The campsite is truly an “eco” place where recycled materials have been used, separation of trash is always adhered to, and the environment is always looked after.

We enjoyed our time here and would recommend this camp to workawayers.

Our stay with Ashok and his family was so nice. The accommodations were wonderful and the food was delicious and plentiful. A typical day starts at 7 with tea and biscuits and then work until about 10:30 and then delicious dal bhat. The rest of the day is free and then dinner is at 7. Wonder And Angelu stayed with us for a week and they both were very helpful. And I always loved the conversation with Angelu specifically. As they both were doing all the job I provided very carefully and helped around garden and house .

I’m writing this review as I leave on the ferry from the beautiful island of Bozcaada. I stayed with Lalitah and Utsav for three weeks. My stay here was so amazing and better than I could have ever imagined. There was another volunteer here and the four of us formed an amazing bond and connection. The hosts are skilled in meditation and spiritual… read more farming. Your normal day will start with 30 minutes of body movement followed by 30 minutes of meditation. Then a delicious breakfast of fruit, tahini, bread, and tea. Then you will work on the land which is magical, transformative, and satisfying. While I was there I helped prune the vineyard which was very fun. I also planted two beds of vegetables, helped make new compost piles, used the shredder to chip branches, cleared the land, and weeded. There was plenty of work to do but it never felt like I was there as a “worker”. The bigger part of being there was to connect on a deeper level with the people, the land, and myself. Several mornings after breakfast, we ended up chatting for more than an hour or more about deep spiritual stuff and Ustav counted that as part of our working hours. So that tells you what the focus is really about.

Lalitah and Ustav have so much to share and I know that we barely scratched the surface. They care about other people and are there to help you in many forms. I hope to come back and do more Osho meditations (shaking), writing love letters to myself, and whatever else you guys have up your sleeves! Lol

I also prepared food for everyone on occasion as that is a shared task. Lunch and dinner are bountiful vegetarian dishes made with love.

The accommodations are top notch. I had my own very comfortable room and shared a bathroom with the other volunteer. You will definitely feel comfy and at home here. Lalitah is sensitive to strong odors and noises so it’s necessary to be observant of that.

Ustav allowed us to use the scooter to get around the island which was extremely generous. While we were there, Lalitah and Ustav both had to leave for awhile to attend workshops and they entrusted the house, vineyard, and cats to us. This level of trust was so nice and really confirmed that we shared something special. We also shared some fun times in town and were introduced to some people at the ceramics shop who we became friends with and ended up hanging out with quite often making music and playing card games! I felt very much a part of the island while I was there and I truly hope to come back another time and help with the harvests of the grapes.

I highly recommend you go see Lalitah and Ustav if you want to go deeper into your spirituality while also learning farm skills and spend time on a beautiful island!
