Leo was the first Workawayer to stay at my place, and it was truly a fantastic experience. He is a very respectful, hardworking person with great autonomy — someone who knows how to do a bit of everything, and does it all really well. Having him here was such a gift. I’m sincerely hoping he’ll come back here one day for another Workaway — he’ll always be welcome!

My stay with Sue was a spontaneous last-minute match, and the timing couldn’t have been better. Sue is incredibly easygoing, full of energy, and totally flexible when it comes to working hours. I felt welcomed from the start and really appreciated her relaxed and open approach. She shared fascinating stories about wildlife - especially bears! Cat Solo was a constant companion, follows around the yard like a little shadow. I loved kayaking and spending time on the dock (because yes, I found the sign: life is better on the dock!). It honestly felt like the only dock along the Slocan River, which made it even more unique. One of the highlights was joining Sue on a long trip through the Kootenays, such a generous and memorable experience. I tried to give a little extra during my stay, just to feel good about contributing. I harvested a solid amount of apples, helped with small repairs, general maintenance, and garden work. I’ve never done so many different little tasks in one place, it was a fun adventure to see things get done, even the firewood pile:) Thanks again for the great time and I hope to see you again!!

Our stay at Adi Johar was absolutely lovely. Harahit is a very kind, sweet and quirky man full of beautiful ideas that deserve extra hands in order from them to all come to life. The main project, the land, the river, as well as the festival is fueled by a happy passionate heart and shows you the ways in which life can be so very simple, yet full of beauty and richness at the same. His family is wonderfully generous and amma fed us like queens. Overall, it was a gentle yet very inspiring time, thanks for having us 🌞

Staying with Emily, Sam, and their boys was truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. From the very first day, I felt welcomed and appreciated as part of the family. Their warmth, kindness, and openness created an environment that felt like home far away from home. The surrounding nature was absolutely stunning – peaceful, vast, and full of beauty. The combination of this incredible landscape with such a loving and generous family made it the perfect place to be. Every day felt meaningful and filled with joy. Working as an au pair here wasn’t a job – it was pure happiness. I learned so much, shared countless special moments, and felt deeply connected to both the people and the place. I wholeheartedly recommend this experience to anyone considering it. It’s not something you find twice in life.

We had the pleasure of hosting Mariana from Argentina at our bar for three wonderful weeks, and she quickly became an invaluable part of our team. This beautiful and vibrant young woman jumped right in, providing tremendous help especially during our busy weekends when the place was packed. She’s a multitasker, handling everything from serving drinks to managing the crowd with ease and efficiency. What stood out most was her interaction with our local customers—she has a natural charm and warmth that made everyone feel welcome. She’s interesting to talk to, with stories and insights that sparked great conversations. Living in harmony with the team, she brought a calm and positive energy that kept things balanced even during hectic shifts. One highlight was her engaging presentation for our Bla Bla Club on how to prepare and drink Yerba mate, which was a hit and added a fun cultural touch to our events. We fully recommend Mariana for any Workaway opportunity—don’t hesitate to host her! Best wishes on your future adventures.

Before travelling to see Vera and Yohann, I had a brief phone call with Vera. From our brief chat, I knew that I would get on very well with this family. This proved to be the case, and I had deep conversations with Vera in German, French and English. Since I have studied a lot of Swedish this year, I was hoping to get a chance to speak a little Swedish in France (wishful thinking?!), but then Yohann surprised me by speaking fluent Swedish to me straight away in our first conversation! This meant that I had the opportunity to speak several languages with Vera and Yohann. They have an extensive library, so you will have plenty of good books to read in German, French, Spanish, Swedish and English. They are excellent language teachers, and their children can help you with French pronunciation and grammar, too. The three children are adorable, well-behaved, smart, charming and cultured, so you can have conversations with them about a variety of subjects. The eldest will bring you a book on any subject from his library, so be prepared for lots of knowledge sharing! I had the opportunity to visit a French table tennis club with the children and a fellow Workawayer, and we were warmly welcomed and allowed to play as if we had been part of the team for years. My ten-day stay with them was a dream come true, as I have travelled a lot and stayed in various guest houses over the years. I have always wanted to rearrange a guest house or give hosts advice on how they could offer an even better stay. Vera let me get on and do things my way. I must say that moving around some furniture, giving everything a good clean, sewing some curtains and reorganising can make a huge difference! Since the results at the guest house were so satisfying, my host and I joined forces and reorganised her home too, so she can tackle her daily tasks and routines more quickly and maybe find a little corner for herself to enjoy tea and a good book. I loved cooking in their kitchen, and the children enjoyed all the food I made, so it was a pure joy to cook for a larger group. My guest room was cosy, and I had my own bathroom with a hot shower. My favourite place was the backyard, where you could relax and enjoy the peace and quiet of the French countryside. They have a lovely dog and a jolly ginger cat who were as welcoming as everyone in the family. As fellow language lovers, Vera has inspired me in many ways. She has travelled the world and has lots of entertaining stories to tell. Her language skills are phenomenal! She even played and sang some of her own songs for me. It was a real treat! Vera and Yohann were my first Workaway hosts, and I enjoyed the exchange so much that I am planning on doing several more Workaways in the future. The possibilities for learning languages and acquiring other skills are endless!

I had a mixed experience with this workaway in September. I almost didn't come because I stopped receiving answers for a while, but then they started answering again and were flexible with the lenghth of my stay after that. The farm was nice, the 13 dogs were cute, and I shared some nice moments with Rob and Heather; but the frequent barking was hard to handle and affecting my sleep, and I never really felt comfortable around the house. I ended up deciding to leave earlier than planned. Rob and Heather were very busy, but I appreciated that they took me paddle on the lake on the day I arrived. Rob taught me some stuff about the garden and some tools, and Heather showed me some wild plants. I always had to ask for lunch, but Heather cooked very nice dinners every night. I helped with construction stuff, to pick cherries and get their pits out to store them, to bathe and brush dogs, to cut down dead trees and make pickled peppers jars because Heather remembered I was interested to learn how to make preserves, which was a pleasant attention. It was nice to have the opportunity to earn some pocket money if I was willing to work extra, even though I didn't have the energy to do it much with the heat and lack of sleep. In the end, not a great fit for me and not what I expected, but not a bad experience. Thank you for hosting me and for the good moments shared.

I was for two weeks in Vercours and I really enjoyed my time chez Laurence. She is full of energy , she has a great social and ecological awareness and she tries to live both actively and with consistency . One of my best memories is the demonstration we went in Grenoble in protest of the unfair economic and social situation. After that, there was an assembly to asses the actions taken during the day and the next initiatives. Really interesting. The tasks I did were mainly related to the maintenance of the house: painting, sanding, varnish, fixing the way to the house... Grenoble is not far from the village, and easy to reach by public transport or hitchhike. The landscape is amazing. A plateau surrounded by high mountains. That let's you to ride a bicycle or go for a walk very easily or take more challenging paths to the ridgeline. I was very lucky to stay during the cultural weekend and listen to the elderly people from the village talking about the pre-mechanic farming, old stories from the Second World War (Vercours was a center of anti-nazi fight) and the Winter Olympics Games of 1968 in the valley. Again, a great experience. My best memory is in he house, my last Sunday, when Laurence staged a storytelling soirée. We listened one of the stories of her repertoire with a glacier at the center of the tale, very enjoyable, and after that, we shared a dinner with the food that every spectator had provided, all around the table, chatting, exchanging points of view and having fun. Great time, all together. Merci, Laurence, pour toutes ces bonnes expériences et à la prochaine, j'espère.

I spent two weeks at Caterina‘s home, right in the center of Palermo. She is a very warm-hearted woman. From the very beginning, communication was very friendly and harmonious and we got along very well. The dogs are wonderful each in his own way. Immediately I fell in love with them and it was very hard to say good bye I also had the opportunity to meet her friends and parents and I had a very good time also with them. We had very delicous meals together, real authentic Italien Food Thank you Cate for the nice conversations we had!! The time we spent together was unfortunately too short.

Zosia was a part of our family for 2 weeks this September. We've made our plans about 6 months ago, our communication was clear and we both kept our agreement. It was the kind of experience where we both put in more than we anticipated, and we both got more out of it. We made a great team, from creative work on one of my projects, to housework, and exploring Lisbon, Sintra, Evora, and beaches together. Zosia, you are always welcome back! Enjoy your travels!

I only stayed at Hughs for a week but it was a beautiful small plot of land near kilkenny. The room was very comfortable and provided well enough food for me which being vegan i know can be a bit of a problem for some but Hugh readily and easily acommodated for me. I spent the first day clear some wood and the remainder of the week replacing a tap and countertop for his kitchen. I was very happy to share my skills that i have attained from rennovated my own home and from my career. During the time of my stay, beginning of fall was access to fresh apples from his orchard and was alwasy able to getting a tastey snack. Hugh also was very good at teaching me history and my questions on the local culture. Thank you for taking me in on such short notice and wish you the best in the future!

Only stayed with us a week for the grape harvest but such fun and so good to have an extra pair of hands .Menno and Michelle were in a fantastic group who all got on so well .Plenty of laughter and plenty of wine . They were last minute workawayers travelling in their snail house which turned out perfectly. We thank them for all the hard work during harvest which can be very tiring and stressful but it was a record year in record time .

Working here for almost 3 weeks was a great experience. everyone is the team was very nice, the place was very beautiful, the food was good. It was a lot of work, pretty big days of cleaning cabins and dishes and doing laundry, but it was really worth it and I'm glad I had the chance to join the team for this end of the season. Thanks a lot Jordon, Cristina, Cheryl and Bill, and thanks to Daniela for the nice moments shared.

My time here was incredible it was my first time staying in a hostel, and it truly was an unforgettable experience! Without a doubt, it’s one of the best places I’ve seen for anyone to stay and volunteer. The atmosphere is amazing, and Mark (the owner) is very attentive, organized, helpful, and understanding. Mint became like a mother to me always caring for me and making sure I was okay. Plus, she cooks deliciously! Thank you so much for the opportunity and the trust.
