I had the chance to spend four days at Marco’s place, and I truly enjoyed my stay. Although we didn’t have much time together, I found Marco to be a kindhearted, open-minded, and fun person who welcomes others into his home in such a natural and trusting way that you feel comfortable right away. The place itself and the surrounding nature are simply magical and full of good energy. Also now I understand why the dogs are mentioned in other reviews: Rosa and Yuma are absolutely amazing and bring so much joy to the place. To my fellow female solo travelers: I felt very safe and comfortable staying with Marco. :) Thank you again Marco for opening your home to me and I hope our paths cross again someday!

Alex stayed with us for about a month in autumn. She participated (with another woman) in very practical hands on work (one could almost say guys work) and did so with enthusiasm and energy, performing task well. Communication on work and tasks was good, and she got on well with other volunteers. Unfortunately on the very last weekend something happened in the volunteer group (which we were not told) and on Monday when she left she was in a bad mood. With lots of asking i managed to determine that she was very disappointed about not having more contact with artists. For info, our artist wing is next to the volunteer wing, and their open studios are above. So i didn't understand why she didn't make contact, but it seems she was expecting us to connect them (which like she correctly says we don't). We had btw shared meals often (with artists, and also with volunteers, and generally spend a fair amount of time with them) Apparently there were other issues and she says in her review that we can not be talked to. Which off course is perfect if you want to keep a grudge and not resolve issues. We always listen, but i have the feeling she means we don't always agree (which i feel is our prerogative) Anyway i tried hard that she would not leave on the negative note, saying that it is better to raise issues while here, so we can fix them. We did change the description in the profile to align better and generally work hard to inform and build reasonable expectations. We have a call with everyone and i encourage everyone to raise any concerns and ask about assumptions in it. As a host i can not fully recommend Alex because while she worked well, the lack of honest communication in person is disconcerting.

We didn't know what to expect, but the stay was so great. Such a shame it was our first workaway experience, because the chances of finding one that comes close to what we've had at this one are slim. Funny, experienced, down to earth people. There is much to be learned here and I am happy for anyone who has the opportunity of meeting this couple!

I am grateful for the 2 weeks I spent with Eimer and her family. I spent most of my time in the garden, weeding, strimming, planting flowers, gathering firewood or walking Fia (dog). If the weather was too grim I helped out indoors, cleaned the bathroom, vacuum cleaned or swept the floors. Long story short, the work was never boring or too hard. Eimer lives a busy life but she was always open for discussing anything that came up. Eimer is a great cook, she always managed to create something unique and delicious even at the end of a busy day. Eimer's daughter, Laoise, bakes great muffins and cookies, I greatly enjoyed trying them! I got to meet some of Eimer's friends and family who were all lovely, and she even invited me for a yin yoga-sound bath combo session that she facilitated, and a traditional Irish music session in Hollywood (the OG one!) which were both super cool!

I couldn’t have asked for a better first workaway experience. I left two days ago and I was very sad because I truly felt at home. Alexa and Holger are wonderful hosts, always kind, caring and attentive: I will miss having dinner, chatting and laughing (Alexa’s laugh is very contagious) with them. Willem, Lotta and the chickens are all lovely and funny animals too. The nature around is something really beautiful and, if you enjoy cycling, you can even take a long bike ride all the way to the Baltic Sea! The tasks were varied and Alexa and Holger always made sure that I enjoyed what I was doing. I especially loved picking quinces from the tree and painting a wall in the holiday flat. If you want to learn German, be prepared to practice from the very first day - I couldn’t manage that because I found it too difficult! But don’t worry, Alexa and Holger speak excellent English, and Holger’s accent even sounds a bit British :) I really recommend this experience and I would definitely return! Big hugs, Camilla🍃🍂🍁

As Americans, we were very nervous to visit the north. To be honest, it was a total accident that we even ended up here. It was helpful that once a commitment was made, we were given a very clear schedule on routine work times. We really felt like we knew what we were getting into before we arrived. Irfan gave us easy instructions to follow after the flight to Cyprus. We were easily able to traverse the bus system leading to the UN border. Once we got off the bus his partner Mustafa picked my wife and I up and took us across the border and ultimately to our new home. This was our 5th Workaway experience and when we say it was our best, that doesn't even begin to expreses our appreciation! Upon arrival we ate dinner and then were introduced to the property. Sinem made us feel like we had belonged there all along, and quickly our hesitations disolved. We had so many preconceived notions and in no time all of those former ideas just felt silly. We originally booked a two week stay but felt so comfortable, so quickly, that we asked if we could stay another week. This is not another "Middle East or Muslim" country. Although there are many people of faith, the country as we experienced it was much more secular than religious. Almost everywhere we went people were friendly and curious to know what travelers were doing in their small village. The work was great and consisted of the traditional manual labor to be expected on a farm. What will always stand out much more than the work was the sense of family we felt being on the Sinde farm. We were a part of many projects that will last years, but the relationships we developed with our host family and our fellow workawayers will last a lifetime. Ultimately our advice would be to come and stay as long as you can. Not only is the daily life memorable but the weekend recommendations provided to be so much fun as well. We love you Irfan Sinem Rusgar Mustafa and Barfu

Shae stayed with us for one month doing all that was needed to be done in a quiet and responsible way. Gardening, planting trees, maintaining beds, cooking, cleaning, and even helped us with the olive harvesting/selection this year. We do recommend her.

My last stop on my Japan trip was Okinawa and I was so happy to spend it at Amy’s house. I stayed for two weeks and it was incredible. Amy-san is such a kind person and was so open in sharing Okinawan culture with me. Unfortunately I was quite busy practicing Eisa for the Zento Festival, so I didn’t get to spend as much time with Amy and Uta-chan as I would have liked, but they both seemed so much fun! I really hope to see them again someday. Dear Amy-san, thank you so much for welcoming me into your home.

I stayed for one month with Anele and Nico as my first workaway and I couldn’t expect something better ! They were always here to answer our questions, to make sure everything was fine for us, the tasks where well organized : it was really nice to work with them. The hostel was really nice and the room was really ok to stay (i also loved Hufa and the cat jaja) The city of el Medano really has something special with all the beautiful beaches, the people, the restaurants : the atmosphere here is like no where else. I really recommand you to stay at Anele and Nico’s house and I thank them for this beautiful experience. With you all the best for the future :)

We look back fondly on Sebas's stay with us. He's a neat, friendly, and enterprising young man. He stayed with us for six weeks and improved his Dutch. Sebas helped us with many different chores, including cleaning the house. We look forward to seeing him again on Terschelling. Tanja and Andre

Staying with Helen and Eric was the perfect calm getaway. Their beautiful house and the stunning surroundings create an instant feeling of relaxation. All the work was out in the garden and enjoyable, especially with the perfect October weather. The food cooked by Helen was a real highlight: tasty, healthy, and always varied. Helen and Eric are friendly, calm, and thoughtful people who’ve created an inspiring way of life. They also took me on outings and showed me around this beautiful part of Umbria. The area is incredibly pretty, laid-back, and non-touristy — I especially loved the charming and quiet hilltop towns. All in all, it was a wonderful stay that I’ll remember with gratitude.

we're a lil late: but we had an amazing stay at Andrew's! If you want to feel like you've accomplished something in a day and discover beautiful beaches, Andrew, Anna, and Liam are the right people for you. You practically live in a shared apartment: you are warmly invited to cook together in the evening, and we also took part in a pubquiz at the ShoutOutbrewery, which offers delicious pizza and a very interesting selection of IPA beers. Although Andrew is very busy, he shows you how to use a nail gun, cut wooden slats with a plunge saw, or even assemble and dismantle scaffolding. We really gained a lot of experience and surpassed our limits. Thank you Andrew and Kids 🙏

I stayed at Torbjörn’s organic farm from September for two months (originally I planned to stay for one month, but thanks to a wonderful connection, it naturally turned into two months). I was really impressed by how active Torbjörn is. He’s 80 years old, yet he wakes up early every morning, studies Russian every day, plans and carries out everything that needs to be done on the farm, and even takes on new projects with enthusiasm. He’s also active in marketing — expanding the sales channels for his organic vegetables and finding new customers. I think his strong curiosity and optimistic attitude make all of this possible. During my stay, more than 20 kinds of organic vegetables and fruits were growing both inside the greenhouse and outdoors. My main tasks were watering, weeding, planting seedlings, and harvesting vegetables and fruits. For one of the new projects, we built soil beds, added horse manure and straw for mulching, and placed sandbags on top. Thanks to Torbjörn’s clear explanations, I could enjoy every task and learn a lot. Until the end of September, I helped sell vegetables at the market in Lund every Saturday. We started harvesting two days before the market, and I really enjoyed talking with so many customers there — it was such a good experience. I also have lovely memories of cooking meals with vegetables and fruits from the farm and sharing them together. Torbjörn taught me so much — about his life philosophy, how to grow and sell vegetables, and how to communicate with customers. Thank you for sharing your wisdom and life experience with me. I’m really looking forward to seeing how Torbjörn’s organic farm continues to grow and flourish. Take care of yourself and live a long, healthy life! Tack så mycket Torbjörn! Jag ser fram emot den dag vi ses igen!

Mish and his family welcomed us in like one of their own. They live in such a beautiful place, which is magical to wake up to everyday. The food cooked was always so delicious and really gave us a great taste of Macedonian food. Work was hard very rewarding, we worked on carpentry projects mainly building the large entrance gate with Mish himself working with us lots of the days. there's always lots of diy tasks to keep up the beauty of the project, Mish will always be able to find a good task. days off were great, Ohrid is a beautiful place I honestly couldn't recommend coming here more. the old town, museums, monasteries are lovely. the lake is so stunning too. if you want a real Homestay Macedonian experience and make a friend and family for life, come here!

I stayed for one month in September at Rémi’s farm in Tremmel, and it was my first workaway experience. I had the chance to learn about the local dance culture, which was really interesting. Everyone on the farm was very kind, and I felt welcome from the first day. I met many great people, both locals and other workawayers, and we had a really good time together. The work was easy, and I also had time to explore Tremmel and the surrounding area. Thank you for a nice experience.

I had a great time at David's place. He's really flexible, relaxed and fun guy. The work environment is also very nice until and unless you are dealing with bedsheets 😂 precision is mandatory 😵. The cultural exchange at his place was fantastic, I got to meet his family and try Portuguese food . The place is just by the Ocean and I used to go there at the cliff and beach everyday.

Hard to define the experience with Jan. He visited us first alone, worked as a divine machine with supernatural powers always looking for an extra task. He really enjoyed our endless list of things to do. He will always be remembered as our most powerful Volounteer so far. He is also an easy going open hearted beautiful soul and it was such joy to spend time together. Jan visited us 2 more times with his girlfriend Ana whos company we enjoyed so much as well. They are an amazing team! They also took care of our place while we were gone; watering plants, feeding turtles, chicken and treating our cats like members of family. Hope one day they will move permanently by us ;)

I spent three weeks in October with Olga, Carlo, and their little son Rio. They are truly warm-hearted and generous hosts who make you feel instantly at home. Rio is such an absolute sweetheart and little darling, full of charm and energy—truly a little bundle of joy. I helped out in the garden, learning about permaculture, and on the weekends, we harvested olives. I even got to witness the olive pressing once, which was a truly unique experience. The atmosphere at this place is filled with kindness and great positive energy. For me, the first two days were a bit challenging because the dogs were very playful, and I wasn’t used to dogs. But just after a few days, their excitement about my presence calmed down, and I could even manage to overcome my fear of dogs - I actually even miss them a little bit now. Everything was wonderful - the food was fantastic, and I will really miss the shared cooking and conversations in many different languages. From day one, you feel like part of their family, and it is truly hard to say goodbye afterward. Olga and Carlo’s genuine care and warmth make this place so special, and Rio’s joyful presence brightens every moment. (It was my first time as a WorkAwayer, and I am really happy that I shared this experience with Olga, Carlo & Rio.)
