I booked a 2 night stay here before heading out to Lago de Atitlan. When I drove into Xela (Quetzaltenango) I had a good feeling and this feeling grew bigger when I entered the hostel. I immediately knew that my 2 night stay was way too short. After some talking with the previous volunteer and Javier (such a great guy) I found out I could work here and simultaneously learn spanish. And yes, this worked 100%! The work was chilled and an easy way to meet fellow travelers in the hostel. I had spanish lessons before or after work (or sometimes even during) and could study while welcoming guests at the door. Doing other stuff like laundry, cooking or reading was all possible, so I would say the work is very flexible! In my free time I did lots of hikes around, which was absolutely fabulous. After a good hike I could make some great food in the well equiped kitchen with the fresh groceries from the market in town. In the end I stayed almost 6 weeks and had such a nice time in Xela. I could definitely recommend it!

Jana and Mattia are incredible hosts. I had the pleasure of staying with them for a week, but I would have loved to stay with them much longer! In their splendid farmhouse I was able to savor the tranquility of country life... but if you decide to visit, know that you won't only be waiting for country chores (under Mattia and Jana's patience supervision) like taking care of the animals and the garden, fixing the road or restoring old equipment, but also lots of village festivals, trips with your hosts, great food and so many incredible stories to listen to. I recommend everyone come and breathe the atmosphere of Cascina Ghinghetta! Thank you so much for this experience, Jana and Mattia ✨

We spent over 3 weeks at Myrthe’s house and it has been a wonderful time for us. Myrthe is a very friendly, open and caring person and she always made sure we had everything we needed. We had flexibility in working hours so that we could plan trips, go on longer walks or go hiking in the beautiful area. The house is warm and cozy and it felt like home for us during these weeks. We loved taking care of Myrthe’s dogs Jazz and Lukey and her cat Ruby, they always made us laugh:) We had a lot of learning opportunities and Myrthe gave us some great cooking tips. Myrthe made our first workaway experience so easy and lovely. We will miss this place and everyone we met. Myrthe, thank you from the bottom for our hearts for inviting us to your house and being so kind and caring!

Working with Juul was amazing. Juul was great as a volunteer, fast learner and she had no problems with the work assigned to her. We enjoyed hosting her, and she got along pretty well with everyone else. It's our pleasure to strongly recommend Juul to any host that is interested on working with her, since she is a pretty trustworthy and a person you can 100% depend on.

Louise arrived as a great workawayer, but left as a good friend. What a joy she was to have around; so easy-going, consistently happy and positive. Louise was proactive and hugely hard-working from the get-go, always looking for more to do. She assimilated brilliantly into our household, being very calm and patient with our rescue cats, to the extent that they became very fond of her. Nothing was ever too much trouble for Louise and she always got stuck in to hard and physical tasks cheerfully. We are incredibly grateful for the impact she has left here, on the property and on us. Louise has so many diverse experiences round the world and her natural cheerful friendliness meant that our friends loved her as much as we do. Everyone needs a Louise in their life and we feel blessed to have met her; not goodbye, but ‘à la prochaine’ 💞.

I had a wonderful time with Trina, who’s such an amazing person. It was my first time doing something like this, and I couldn’t have wished for a better place. Working with her was truly lovely, and her four students were absolutely delightful. Teaching them was a great experience, especially since her methods combined reading, watching videos, and engaging in conversations which is one of the best ways to learn English, in my opinion. I loved spending time with the students and had so many fun and memorable days. The working hours were also very convenient, as they only involved about four hours in the afternoon. This left plenty of time to explore Sanxia (and try all the amazing food!), and on weekends it was easy to head to Taipei or even travel farther, to places like Kaohsiung or Hualien (thanks to Taiwan’s excellent railway network). This experience truly made me fall in love with Taiwan, and I can’t wait to go back. Thanks to Trina, I was able to discover so many wonderful things, and she made this trip unforgettable.

Iris is a splendid woman! I stayed at her house for three weeks. We started the days at 9am with breakfast. I then worked around the house or in the garden. The garden is lovely with small paths and lots of different plants growing there! I learned some new things about plants, zucchini bread:) and making yoghurt or ricotta. Iris was also open to my preferences for the work I did. In the house you can always discover new things and I found myself in a creative atmosphere. The nature around as well as the town are beautiful too. I'm greatful for our conversations and happy that I spent some of my summer with you:)

This place is a real gem! I ended up staying a lot longer than originally planned - Ninon, the other volunteers and the local people make this place feel like home. Work isn't hard, 5-6 days a week for 5hrs (sometimes it's just playing volleyball with guests). The day is divided in 3 shifts which you can usually swap with the other volunteers as long as someone is present. There's great surfing and diving as well as a couple of bars to pass time off shift ;) I'm waiting to be able to come back for a visit!

i have been coming to Berlinovo for a few years already, first as a musician on her festivals and now as a workawayer, and it has been an amazing experience. Berlina is very welcoming, an amazing person, just like the glitter and gold that is her favorite decoration style, her character is sparkly and a true jewel. She makes beautiful 3 day festivals (may and september celebrations) where a lot of open minded people, musicians, artists and overall curious people gather, and its a blast! so i definitely recommend a Berlinovo experience!

Staying with Benjamin was beautiful experience, one in a kind! He is best host you could possibly ask for, he felt like close friend the second he welcomed us in his home. The atmosphere in the house is irreplaceable. Good music, good talks, everyone is even and can feel like it's yours house, great dinners together and sharing, meeting lovely people from the community ! I will miss that for sure ! The work itself is very simple, doesn't feel like work but like helping out your friend to support his dream project. Everything is well organised and very clear! Thank you so much once again !

It was a genuine pleasure to host Richard and Shahrzad, and to share this experience with them.
They stayed with us for a week on the farm, and came with a great deal of enthusiasm to get involved, as well as a keen interest in how we work on the land. While working hard, they were keen to ask questions and learn to better understand some of the principles of small-scale organic farming and permaculture that we employ here. They showed themselves to be the ideal workaway guests for us, demonstrating their willingness to work, learn, take notes, and fully engage with the tasks, work practices and lifestyle we have here. They are both thoroughly lovely people with keen minds and interesting viewpoints, and we shared many interesting conversations with them during their stay. And I’m glad to say we have established a nice friendship with them both. They would be an asset to any future hosts.

Staying at Kiki and Mo’s felt like a dream. Since the first moment I felt safe, nice and welcomed. I fell in love with their place, shared dinners (that were delicious - both of them are great cookers), dogs and friends. They were taking us to the beach, to events with their amazing open-minded friends and in the nature. Kiki taught me how to crochet and was very patient with me. I felt accepted and loved for who I am, the place and the people were really healing. They took me out of my normal life and my normal way of thinking and showed me, how beautiful and free can life be. I am incredibly thankful for the whole experience, especially the people i met. I can honestly say, that this was the best month of my life. Thank you, Kiki and Mo! I hope to see you soon again :)

Micaela and John were incredibly gracious hosts, and their house is absolutely stunning! I very much enjoyed working in the garden and cooking meals for them and the other volunteers. There is lots to do in your free time and many hours spent around the dining table eating and chatting with other workawayers. Micaela is passionate about French culture and goes out of her way to teach you about the region. I already can't wait to return, thanks again Micaela and John!

I spent two wonderful weeks with Reb and Mark. I really wish I could have stayed longer but that was my 90 days up in France. I really felt part of their home. They welcomed me with absolute open arms and I felt so comfortable in their midst. Communication prior was so clear and when I first arrived both Reb and Mark asked me what I liked doing. I did a mix of indoor and outdoor tasks but predominantly outside and they were physical - which I had asked for. Lots of clearing overgrowth, weeding and log carrying. We also harvested walnuts. They have all the necessary equipment. Marc and Reb constantly checked I was happy with what I was doing. There were breaks during the 5 hours, sitting chatting over tea and food - Reb's amazing cooking. Wow, what food!! She's an incredible cook. DELUSHIOUS. She explained so much to me about various food production processes she undertakes with lots of the produce from their property. I tried things I'd never even heard of before. My accommodation was superb. A huge room with my own bathroom. Beautiful views to wake up to and such a calming vibe around the property. And they have two beautiful cats. Reb and Mark took me out to visit other villages and as I love birds and they are very keen birdwatchers, both Saturdays I was there they took me out bird watching. I felt so privileged. I couldn't believe my luck. I also went to the local market with Reb. I really enjoyed the evenings we spent together - they are such great company. I was so genuinely sad to leave and say goodbye to them - it really felt like I was leaving friends and I am sure the goodbye is only an au revoir. Thank you so much Reb and Mark for everything.

Being at Anil's place was amazing. He's very kind, generous, and patient (and with a good music taste)! His place/mountains area was really special and exceeded my expectations. Work is usually 4-5 hours each day, some in the morning and some in the afternoon. Anil is good at allocating tasks and giving opportunity to try different kind of tasks. I did some harvesting, wood cutting and collecting, cleaning, and supporting with building works on the dome hut. And everyone contributes to the daily cooking and dining experience. There's a lovely swing under the pine trees that you can use during rest hours and enjoy the beautiful views and feel the serenity of the area. Great conversations and exchanges during food get togethers, along with some lovely Turkish food items. It was my first workaway experience and I'm glad I had it at Anil's place and shared the experience with other volunteers who were there. Wishing Anil the best for his project and plans!

This message is long overdue, but omg how could I not take a moment to talk about this amazing place! I stayed for 3 weeks during October 2024, and I gotta say it was one of the higlights of my SEA trip. The vibes at this hostel are absolutley unmatched, the indonesian staff are fun and friendly, they made me feel very at home. It also helps that my fellow volunteers (Shut-out to Paula if she's reading this) were the absulute best. Days in Gili meno are relaxed and fun. Even tough it's a small island with not as much of a backpaker scene as Gili T/ Gili Air i found plenty of adventures to go on. We took private boats to the other islands the nights we felt like going out, we snorkled a lot a lot a lot, and the activities at the hostel where always entretaining. Looking back now i'm craving a morning crepe and iced latte before swiming with some turtles, and going out to Brotherhood bar to hear the legendary Gili meno song... The whole job was literally just to have fun with the guests and hang out. It is not hard work but it is a very social enviroment, it can be hard sometimes to find alone time to recharge; So I would recomend this workaway to people who are social butterflies and extroverts. Thank you Manu and Sebastian for having me, I'll miss this place always!!
