This was by far a wild card work away. Eliseo is a highly intelligent and interesting person. We were not sure what skills he had as a doctor and so we had to tread carefully. But he was up for a challenge and excelled in everything we asked him. He will say he is a thinker not a doer, but he is humble and he is very much a doer. He can put his mind to any task and trust me, he is much stronger than he looks. He picks up skills very quickly and the quality of work is excellent. We were wonderfully impressed. He is such a compassionate gentle soul. He has so much knowledge to pass on we felt the time was too short as we would have liked to have learned more from him. He was such a classic gentleman and a pleasure to host. We have made a lifelong friend. This is a gem of a workaway.

Barbora and Medhi are a lovely couple, they are friendly and outgoing and hardworking! They stayed with us for a little over 2 weeks and helped on every front: varnishing, cleaning, gardening! I'd leave a message to Mehdi in the mornings and he'd organise the troops and get all the jobs done! I'm very grateful for the invaluable help they provided and wish they were still here! I highly recommend any host to take them in, you won't regret it!

I loved having Clara here so much. She was more like my best friend the way she stepped in and helped me with everything. My soul sister! She is independent and has so much initiative, she can see what needs doing and just gets on with it, without being asked. She is happy to take on any task big or small. Wonderful cook too, amazing to have a chef in the house! Her meals were delicious! She worked excellently with animals of all sizes, including dogs, chickens, alpacas, camels, cows, sheep, pigs, donkeys and horses. She is so much fun, passionate, positive, so easy to be around and very action oriented. Every day she looked after the morning and evening shift with the animals and somehow also got stuck into the gardening, vacuuming and so many other chores. She is a team player too but has a clear focus on what needs to be done. So very rare! I would highly recommend her to everyone! I'm hoping she comes back many many times!

My partner and I stayed here for 2.5 months over Spring 2025. The sanctuary is an amazing place to volunteer and run by great people. They are accommodating to their volunteers (around 4 at a time) if anything arises they are very flexible. You can learn so much about the animals regardless of your level of experience. It does help if you have a background with animals but there is enough people around to help you learn. They were great at allowing our dog Chedz join us for this stay and she had a ball making new friends with the other dogs who live on site and all the animals that call the sanctuary home. The place is run by great people who are clearly invested in the animals and the organisation itself has a great outreach in the vegan community of Melbourne and Victoria. There is always something going on you'll never be bored and we always had something to look forward to coming up at the sanctuary. Noah and Patty were great hosts and most importantly great people inside. We loved our time here and are keen to join the crew again sometime on the near future.

I'm very thankful for my time in Guys Hill! Jen, ChiLye and Allanah were great hosts and the other volunteers were great to work with and be around in general. I got to learn about horses and get direct experience with them for the first time in a very long time. The tasks were very reasonable and I never felt like too much was being asked of me. The room I stayed in was nice and private with a great view, and I am very grateful for this experience overall. Thank you for having me!

I feel so lucky to have called this place home for the last 3 months. What a beautiful property and an amazing community to be a part of. With so many different animals, there is always lots for everyone to do. We learned a lot during our stay and felt so welcomed by Patty and Noah and the rest of the team. Whatever your special interest may be, there is surely a way for you to utilise your skills here. We were involved in many projects outside of just animal care - eg, building new enclosures, helping strengthen the hay shed infrastructure, and clearing the land with a few big burn offs ready for summer. We were always busy and really felt like we were making a difference to the lucky animals who live here. If you have a car there is lots to explore nearby - including a beautiful national park where we got to see wildlife including wombats and emus. So your down time truly is your own to do as you please - it's great to get off site from time to time and see what's happening in the area. We are really grateful for the time we spent here and can't wait to visit again. Thanks to Patty for your delicious vegan cooking and to Noah for the fun rummikub evenings :) Until next time, hug all the animals for me please!

Working here in Dominical was a wonderful experience. Amy and Ken are amazing hosts, always attentive, kind, and very welcoming. The work was relaxed and enjoyable, and the location is perfect: just a 5-minute walk from the supermarket and the beach, and about 15 minutes to the town of Dominical. They also have the most adorable cats, Vincent and Dexter, and from time to time we helped take care of their two sweet dogs, Marley and Disco. Communication between Amy, Ken, and the volunteers was excellent, and we highly recommend volunteering with them!

Elisa completed a short stay however she fit in very quickly with the team and is well mannered, self motivated and respectful. Elisa completed a lot of work in such a small time and we are extremely happy with her efforts. We are also glad that we were able to go on a trip together to enjoy the autumn colours! Elisa is highly recommended and welcome back anytime!

We stayed at Ria’s Workaway for one and a half weeks, and it was our first time teaching kids — it was amazing! Ria and Rio are really kind , funny and chill people. When we don’t have class or during the weekends, they take you to discover East Java. We went to waterfalls, hot springs, and natural swimming pools… We also discovered a lot of delicious local food with them. Talking with the kids is super fun — they’re always happy to see you and eager to learn more about different cultures and English. Through this Workaway, we met amazing people: Ria’s daughter, Emma, and Nicolas, our new friends from Workaway! They made the experience even better. Together, we went to the spa, visited villages, played badminton, joined a soccer match, and discovered some cool bars. We even had the opportunity to go to Blitar and visit a coffee plantation!! We would definitely recommend this Workaway!!

Wow! Two weeks here was exactly what we needed after the hectic rush of Bangkok. The team was super friendly, and the dogs were just wonderful, a month later we still miss them every day. It's sometimes hard work dealing with so many different dog personalities, but knowing their back stories makes every minute worthwhile. Make sure you ask Jaz or the Thai staff about the history of the place if they have a minute, it really inspired us to give everything! The tasks are divided with a very clear rota and the handbook answers any questions you have. Accommodation and food is fairly simple but totally satisfactory, and while the first few days feel abit overwhelming the second week felt like the best holiday ever! Can't wait to be back :)

Laura and Even were fantastic workaways. There contribution to our project was greatly appreciated. They never complained about any of the work and were flexible. We are glad to have met such a wonderful couple and that that they were able to enjoy the area as well. We would love to host them again in the future.

Lis was a truly amazing workaway, her positive and quirky character is infectious and she will be sorely missed. Lis was very respectful of the house and kept her room and the shared areas clean and tidy. She really can really liven up the place and make us all laugh and enjoy time together. Lis completed all tasks provided and is a perfectionist. We are thankful for her contribution. We were truly blessed to meet Lis and really hope to host her again in the future!

Martina is undoubtedly one of the most valuable and radiant souls in the universe. Thanks to her practical engineering skills and her natural, well-founded intuition, she masters every situation with ease.

Sergio was very generous and flexible with my short stay! The exchange is generous and varied, I walked Rio the dog, I cleaned and added information to slides on Canva. Sergio is a really interesting and dedicated host, he has tons of knowledge about Guanajuato, definitely take the chance to come here and enjoy this beautiful city! Thanks so much Sergio and crew for the stay!

I arrived to Samaipata and met Kadir who gave me a lift to the home after picking up some supplies. Kadir taught me alot about Bolivian culture and spanish language - he is a very kind and honourable man, I absolutely adored his company and our chats. After arriving to the property I enjoyed a great kitchen with great views. The animals are wonderful and it was a treat just to see Kadir and Silvias life, it's out of the ordinary for me and I left understanding a little more about Bolivians, remote living, compassion for animals and a bit more Spanish. I met Silvia toward the end of my stay but she was informative and great to talk too, hearing about the story behind each animal i looked after was such a treat, she was also a kind host and we enjoyed her food and tea even after she travelled for a long time from germany to home. She is a disciplined and motivated person. I'll really miss the animals and my chats with the hosts. Kadir was just simply a wonderful human being and i would have a beer with him any day of the week!

It was amazing hosting Weronika (Velonika)! She’s such a positive, fun, playful, kind, smart, and creative person — it was a total blast having her around, and there was never a dull moment. She’s super organized, clean, tidy, reliable, and always up for anything. Weronika has a lot of initiative and was incredibly helpful in keeping my apartment spotless. She also taught me many new Polish words, gave me great fashion advice, showed me the basics of using session view in Ableton for music production, and even gave me a crash course on playing the drums! She’s full of energy and positivity, and she made me laugh all the time — she’s truly funny and great company. Definitely host her if you have the chance — she’s awesome, and you’ll end up with an amazing new friend.

I had the most wonderful time at Ulrich’s and Liz’s Lodge in paradise! Since they only live there for a few months each year, my job was to welcome guests, show them around, connect them with each other, and make sure they felt at home. I also helped with small tasks like fixing things and taking photos. Keep in mind that the lodge is quite remote, so it’s not always easy to join organized tours — but sometimes you can join the ones the guests are doing! Apart from that, you can snorkel in the stunning coral reef, explore the jungle, play games with guests, and enjoy the absolutely delicious dinners prepared by chef Andrea. You’ll also receive a small allowance to buy breakfast and lunch supplies when accompanying guests on the shuttle to Bocas. All in all, it was an 11/10 experience! A huge thank-you to the incredibly warm-hearted team — Leo, Esther, and Andrea — for making this stay unforgettable.

A Catherine, que normalmente es una maestra de secundaria en UK, le tocó aprender en nuestro refugio de tratar con alumnos perrunos y gatunos. Al parecer, de inicio se sintió un poco intimidada por tantos perros que le dieron la bienvenida, pero rápidamente se dio cuenta de que los animales pueden ser más dóciles que los alumnos de su escuela. Cath es una chica todo terreno, experimentó de mezclar tierra y compost para las nuevas plantas que conforman nuestra huerta; preparar la comida y la alimentación de los animales, el paseo de los perros, ect. Cath con su mediando español llegó a aprender un poco mas de nuestro idioma, por ello y gracias también a la traducción de Cameron, hemos podido tener charlas muy amenas de literatura, filosofía y variedad de temáticas. Muy agradecidos con su compañía, recomendamos a Cath para cualquier otro voluntariado.

Thank you so much! We had such a brilliant time with Sue and Jim and are so grateful for their hospitality. They prepared delicious food for us and took us on a lovely walk to see the Kauri trees and to feed the local Eels!! (Nate was buzzing) We shared so many stories and really felt like we were part of the family. We wished we could have stayed longer. The accommodation was perfect, cosy lodge with private bathroom and kitchen, with a beautiful view of the forest. Our work included cleaning the exterior of the home and some gardening. Thanks Sue for the most amazing fish pie, and thanks Jim for helping us to fix our tent! We really hope we stay in touch! Laura and Nate
