We loved having Emma, was great to have her around, would happily have her back anytime because she became a part of the family and we miss her. Emma thanks for all your help and for being so lovely. Hopefully you will be back soon. Lots of love from all of us, including the family members with paws

Thanks to Estelle my workaway finally met the expectations I had set for myself at the beginning of the project. It took more than 30 guests and a year of sharing. She was the ideal workawayer, guest, and friend for my sharing. Intelligent, energetic, human, witty, respectful of others' hospitality and generosity, but above all, rich in interests and skills useful for workaway. She narrated the island and all her sporting adventures through beautiful photos and a magnificent video, which will be essential for future guests. Her passion for art, travel, and her sensitivity is evident in every shot and video. Plus, she's incredibly talented in the kitchen and loves learning and experimenting with new recipes. Thanks to her sporting abilities, in just 10 days we were able to explore a good portion of the island, both by kayak and by bike, and we also checked the condition of several trails. When a guest leaves and is then missed, it means the commitment and time dedicated to them were greatly appreciated and were surely generously repaid with practical help and truly rare human companionship. I wish you a thousand new adventures around the world and a life filled with wonderful emotions. I hope to see you again in the future. Ciaooo Estelle 🌊☀️🙋

Helping Emma and her family was such awesome. I was there for 1 week and I loved met them! I had a wonderful time and fun moments at their place, thank you! Their two little children are so lovely, cute and kind, it was a pleasure to take care of them! Moreover their place is amazing, like the pretty view and the landscapes through mountains and sheeps paddocks, during sunrise and sunset. Emma and her husband are very friendly hosts that I highly recommend.

I came with a special request: to be able to stay just a few days before taking a flight at the airport, and they immediately offered to host me, giving me a place to settle before a big departure. The place is very spacious, with comfortable common areas in a countryside house. Toni is passionate about music—he has this amazing sound system he can talk about for hours. For me, someone who’s always been fascinated by those walls of sound, it was a real pleasure to see the behind-the-scenes and lend a hand. During my stay, I helped clean speaker boxes, cut wood with a chainsaw, move furniture to set up new living spaces, and cook some simple but really tasty meals. As a French speaker with limited Spanish, you have to be a bit resourceful and not afraid to use big gestures to communicate—but beyond the language barrier, it’s a really great place that I warmly recommend :)

Tom and I spent three weeks at Emine's farm and we had a really nice time. Our main tasks included weeding the strawberry beds, taking the horses out in the morning and in in the evening, walking the dogs, and harvesting olives, which was fun (if not sometimes challenging!) and we learned a lot. The farm is beautiful and is clearly the result of a lot of care and hard work over the years, and I loved taking it in on my evening dog walks. Emine is very fair with working hours, and we had lots of time to relax and explore the area. There were lots of other volunteers at the farm when we stayed, and dinnertimes always full of interesting and funny conversations with great food that we appreciated a lot! I enjoyed learning about Turkish (and Polish!) politics, history, regional cuisines, and more. Good luck with the horses and the rest of the olive harvest! Thank you for having us :)

We had a great two weeks with Kate, Tomas, and family! From helping out with the Ngatimoti school festival to working in the garden, Kate always ensures we have clear instructions while leaving us to carry out the work independently. She is flexible with the work hours, which allowed us to plan excursions in good weather. Kuri and Orrin are such independent and curious children, and we enjoyed our boardgame sessions (including homemade ones) with them. Thanks for hosting us again!

It was a wonderful stay! I felt like a member of the family right away and they welcomed me with open arms. Konnie is a funny and active child and was not shy at all, I really enjoyed hanging out and playing with her during the day. Daniela and Ray are so warm- hearted and always included me in their activities. We had great chats (also in German with Daniela which was a comforting thing to do after leaving Germany to fly to a country you speak English in :)). Tasks depended on the weather and if there was already growing weed in the garden again:) I had the chance to plan the day by myself and I also got to bake a lot which I really enjoyed! They were happy about new cakes and other baked goods. Moreover, I got to see the surrounding area and went on different hikes, Daniela recommended! All in all, it was an amazing stay I enjoyed a lot and I always felt comfortable like I found my second home:) I hope to pass by again! I wish you all the best and hope that you‘ll find your dreamhouse soon;) I can only recommend this family a lot and wish any future workawayer a great stay!

Don´t even know where to start describing my stay. I stayed for three weeks, but I regret not staying longer. Sandy is very welcoming and a great host. More importantly, she has the kindest heart for the animals she rescues. When I was there, we had about 39 dogs, and each of them had their own special character, each of them so sweet. I miss them a lot! In terms of workload, it largely depends on the number of volunteers. We had to work quite long days, but because it is for the animals, it is quite rewarding. It's mostly feeding, walking, and cleaning, and there are always extra things you can do. The dogs love to be cuddled if you have some extra time left :) The food and accommodation are also fine! Most meals are provided, and they taste great! I do not really have any advice for future volunteers. Just be open-minded and bring a big heart, because it will be very full at the end of your stay :)

Re: Review of stay, Dec '24 through Apr '25 I spent four months at Reliance and now reflect on my highly rewarding time there with many fine students and admirably dedicated teachers, staff, and Principal I have great respect for all of them. Though my time was spent primarily with older students, I had the opportunity to work with children of all ages. And because volunteers reside in the school's student hostel building in which the Dining Hall is located, there were many, additional opportunities to get to know students individually and in small groups. As an American coming from a totally different social and professional milieu, teaching in Nepal can be fascinating and sometimes challenging. Almost all children at Reliance have a good working command of basic English and everyone will be cheerfully encouraging you to learn some Nepali. I was involved in classwork to enhance English writing skills, grammar, and vocabulary, as well as classes that introduced some of the great fiction writers through exercises with famous short stories. Because of my background as a writer and editor, I also was asked to assist with the school's publications and other writing projects. A volunteer can work with the Principal and others on how best to contribute to the school's goals. There is an atmosphere of hospitality and mutual respect. At Reliance, the younger children were, of course, full of questions, while older students were more reticent, in part because of preoccupation with the national exams, which are a priority in the Nepali educational system. In addition, the older students can require strategies to maintain discipline in class, mixing teaching and humor with a firm voice at times. There are many, daily, extracurricular activities pursued at the school and music and dance are in particular abundance. There are often religious and other celebration events. In the school compound, students are always playing basketball and badminton, which you can join. The School, with approximately 550 boys and girls, is in Budhanilkantha in a quieter residential area of Kathmandu. Groceries, cafes, and other shops are nearby. Inexpensive transportation of all kinds to take you around the intensely busy city can be ordered with the "nDrive" app on your phone. The staff at the school are pleased to advise on all issues. If you want to travel to famous trekking spots in the west of Nepal, there are easy flights and buses to the large city of Pokhara. I was fortunate to be at Reliance during a period when many student trips were scheduled for treks and visits, including Chitwan National Park. My time at Reliance was always positive and I am grateful to everyone there for a great experience.

Angelica stayed at my house during the busiest time of the year, unfortunately we didn't have much time to spend together and she helped me take care of my dogs and the house. She's a tidy and independent person, she even cooked for me , makes fantastic guacamole and did a few frequency therapy sessions

Maria stayed with us for three days, and during her time she was exceptionally helpful and proactive. She wrote three well-crafted articles covering the resort experience, our property, and the surrounding community, all of which will be valuable for our marketing and storytelling. In addition to the articles, she went above and beyond by creating engaging social media reels that we can use across our platforms. She also supported us in developing additional social media content, contributing her creativity and keen eye for detail. We truly appreciate her enthusiasm, professionalism, and the positive energy she brought to our team.

I stayed with Peter and Ann from the 29th of October to the 12th of November, and it was an amazing experience! Their property is beautiful, surrounded by nature with great views and lots of wildlife. The work was varied from gardening and outdoor maintenance to helping with the animals (dogs, chickens, fish) and other projects (f.ex. planting coffee seeds) and always well explained. Peter and Ann are very welcoming hosts who truly value cultural and language exchange. I especially enjoyed our many conversations and debates about all kinds of topics. The food was very good and I really appreciated being part of their household and learning about the Australian way of life. If you enjoy being outdoors, learning new things, and sharing good food and ideas, I can absolutely recommend staying with them. Thanks again for everything. I wish you both all the best!

I had an amazing time staying with Harriet! I came planning to stay just a couple of weeks and ended up staying for a few months because it was such a great place. The spaces are super comfortable, the animals are lovely, and the organic vegetarian food was amazing. There’s always something to do around the farm, and heaps of adventures to explore nearby. The people in the community were all really friendly, and the vibe on the farm is so positive and relaxed. Harriet does an awesome job keeping everything running smoothly and making everyone feel at home. Would definitely recommend this experience and would love to come back again!

This past July I had the amazing opportunity to stay with Weza and his beautiful family in Tanzania for 3 weeks while volunteering, and it was truly one of the best experiences of my life. Working with the kids was so joyful and heartwarming, their energy was contagious, and it was clear how much everyone genuinely cares for them. I also met other volunteers from France, Germany, Italy, Austria, and Spain, and it was so special to connect with people who shared the same passion for helping others. Staying with Weza, Mama D, and Dada felt like being part of a real Tanzanian family, they were so welcoming, kind, and eager to share their culture while also learning about ours. Weza always had the biggest smile, Mama D’s cooking was incredible, and I’ll never forget her teaching us how to make chapati, which became my favorite dish. If you have the opportunity, bring something from your country (specially food) for them to try! We visited beautiful places like a waterfall in Moshi, a coffee plantation, and museums around Arusha, and one night we even had a bonfire where I introduced Weza to roasted marshmallows, which he loved! I could talk about my time in Tanzania forever, but what I’ll never forget is how full of love, warmth, and community it felt. So if you are reading this, take the chance on this opportunity, you will not regret it. Tanzania will always have a piece of my heart, and I’m so grateful to Weza, Mama D, baby D, Will and Dada for making it feel like home. I hope to see you soon, lots of love, Nina!

We had Adrian join us form BC for the Fall Firewood extravaganza 2025 and we extended for an extra couple weeks to have him assist with the winter preparations. He is an extremely thoughtful and cerebral young man who's glasses and unassuming nature hide the fact that he is highly capable and athletic. Initially introverted and quiet, he is funny, caring , and very sensitive. He thrived with direct, clear communication and expectations, as well as a private personal space to unwind. He really grew on us and it was very hard to see him go! It's been so amazing for our kids to see examples of young people heading out and making their way in the world, with all the challenges and growth that entails. We definitely recommend Adrian as a workawayer, especially if you like meaningful connections with young people with incredible potential and are willing to do some coaching. This kid is going to be an AMAZING man! We miss you, Adrian!!

I stayed at this community for about a week. From the moment I arrived, everyone welcomed me so warmly, and I started helping with the work from the next day. The tasks were all simple — during my stay, I did things like ironing, tidying up, and cleaning the guesthouse. On my days off, we went on trips together — to Appenzell and on a day trip to Lucerne. Thank you, Matteo, for driving us there 🥹 Since it was near the end of the season, there were only two other volunteers when I was there, but they were both so kind and friendly. I really enjoyed spending time with them — talking, playing games, cooking, walking and going bouldering together. I think that’s the best part of this community — the people. Working with always cheerful and kind Tsewang, Ilham, and spending time with the two wonderful guys made my time in Switzerland truly unforgettable. Thank you all so much.

Volunteering here was an amazing experience. The work was so rewarding with such loving cats greeting you every morning with all the cuddles and purrs! It is very well organised with cats being their priority, so most importantly for a good cause. The environment was beautiful with ample space for such a large number of cats. All of the cats were very well taken care of, are healthy and happy 😊 The work is not hard and you’ll have free time to explore the beautiful town. I highly appreciate and respect Emma and other full time volunteers for their selfless-heart and all the hard work. Thank you: Emma and all of the volunteers for the unforgettable experience that will stay very close to my heart, forever ! Highly recommend everyone to come contribute for this amazing cause. I look forward to coming back!

Javi came for a couple or few weeks and stayed almost seven! It was super hard to let him go and everyone misses him dearly! His communication was clear and positive, he is a super hard worker and picks up to take initiative exceptionally well. We were impressed with his talent balanced with his humility and soft spoken demeanor. His support with the housework and cooking was so great! We'll miss our chats and connections! Pretty much everyone who met him became a huge fan and we still have people asking if Javi is still with us. He was an integral part of the 2025 Firewood Epic Team and helped to acquire, process, and stack about 18 cords of wood, rake the entire driveway, clean up the property and just help get so many chores completed for the winter. With Javi's help, we were able to get to the lesser important projects that were 'nice to do' instead of 'have to do', and the house is looking great! We will think of him everyday, when we go down the basement stairs!! Javi is always welcome back and is extremely highly recommended!
