Helen and Dean were incredibly welcoming and accommodating , flexible to assign me the jobs I felt I was capable of and when I chose to fulfill my hours. They Always had delicious hearty meals for me as well as a stocked pantry If I needed a midnight snack or wanted to prepare my own meal after sleeping in. Gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous property 2 minutes away from a community maintained trail that lead to a beautiful beach, adorable town not far, dean actually drove me around just to get acquainted when he was dropping off some food at the local fire department. I was housed in a super cute little cottage separate from Dean and Helens home giving me privacy and the peace of mind that I didn't have to tip toe around if we went to bed at different times, and I am not exaggerating when I say the showers I took there, in their outdoor shower were some of the best of my LIFE! its a private, modern, hot shower tucked into a cute garden underneath the stars, I was facetiming all my friends and they all asked " how much are you paying for this place?" they couldn't believe that it was free in exchange for honest work, im still having a hard time believing it myself. But this place is the real deal, Helen and Dean are very cool, straightforward and easy to get along with, could not recommend this place highly enough!

Our experience hosting Joachim was different from how he has described his time with us. During his stay, we did our best to offer clarity, kindness, and a peaceful environment, as we do with all volunteers. We also offered additional support because #redacted#. We had many warm and honest conversations at the kitchen table. The tasks we ask at our place are simple, practical, and clearly explained. We value open communication, and we always invite volunteers to speak up if anything feels unclear or uncomfortable. If any communication from Geert felt too direct for you, which we understand from the moment you experienced as anger, we are genuinely sorry for that. We also believe that situations often depend on different perspectives. Throughout your stay we invited you to talk with us whenever something felt uncomfortable and also to reach out after you left if anything still weighed on you. As we believe direct and respectful conversation is always more helpful than sharing concerns publicly (without first communicating with us). We are a peaceful family home and retreat center where volunteers generally thrive. We have welcomed many WorkAwayers who felt safe, respected, and happy here. We wish you well on your journey and hope you find environments that better support your needs.

We're so grateful to Jess and Dorian for staying with us for 2 weeks - they were absolute stars! We didn't exactly have the best timing, with me being ill and them getting minimal instructions, but they were total pros. They kept themselves busy with different tasks (brush cutting, planting potatoes, weeding, sanding furniture) cooked dinner every night, and cleaned up after themselves. The cherry on top was the bamboo plants they potted up - they did an amazing job, and left the polytunnel workspace neat and tidy. We can't recommend Jess and Dorian enough for future hosts - they're a lovely, quiet couple!

We are deeply grateful to Amy, Steve, and their wonderful family for welcoming us with such warmth and care. From the very first day, they looked after us with constant kindness, always making sure we were comfortable and felt at home. Every conversation was filled with smiles, gentleness, and sincerity—being around them was truly a joy. During our stay, we helped with a wide variety of tasks—gardening and weeding, laying mulch, cooking, laundry, house cleaning, painting, and more. But what left the strongest impression on us was the building project. We were even invited to take part in designing the Peve, and seeing it through all the way to installation was incredibly meaningful. Having the chance to try work we had never experienced before, and to learn so much through it, is something we will always be grateful for. Our children grew closer day by day, slowly building a bond through play, laughter, and shared moments. Going around the town together on Halloween and being taken to the beach were such generous acts of hospitality from the family, and both became unforgettable experiences for our kids and for us. Another truly special moment for our family was being able to plant a White Beech tree together. We already look forward to seeing how that tree grows in the years ahead—and thinking about how our connection with this family will grow along with it fills our hearts with happiness. This stay has become something unforgettable for all of us, especially for our children. The warmth, the learning, the love we received—it all made our time there incredibly meaningful. Amy and Steve’s home is filled with kindness, joy, and genuine care. Hosts as warm and sincere as they are are rare to find. We feel so lucky and thankful to have crossed paths with them, and we will carry this experience with us always.

My experience with Cristina and her family was absolutely amazing. She’s an open-minded, determined and strong woman who trusted me to take care of his children and puppies. Her children are two little old souls in a 10-year old body, nature loving and very smart. The place is also very special: a house in the middle (literally) of the forest. Although Cristina can give you a ride to the beach or town, I preferred to stay in most of the time. There´s a river very close and the magic of the forest at your hand. When I visited them, Zuma, one of their dogs, had just given birth to 9 puppies, so that was the priority. I enjoyed cooking for them, but there are many different things to be done: the green area is huge, there’s a small vegetable garden to take care of, lots of plants to water, and as children are home-schooled, you can also be a part of that if you have any particular skill. I will always keep this month in my heart, I got the saddest news from home (11000km away) and Cristina with her care and empathy, helped me go through it in a very loving way. He had an almost instant connection, and I think I made a new friend. I hope to visit them again. We have agreed on that already! All my love, "La Mary Popins".

My first Workaway experience was with Martina, and it was wonderful, even though I stayed only one week. Martina is a perfect host, and I can truly recommend her place to anyone who wants to start their volunteering adventure. She is very communicative, friendly, and very tolerant. When you want to talk, she is there for you, and when you need time alone or want to explore the area, she always understands and supports you. Her home has everything you need, and if something is missing, you can easily buy it in the area. I helped mainly with the animals and in the garden, and I really enjoyed this kind of work. If you are looking for a place close to nature, where you can relax your mind and enjoy peaceful days, I can only recommend staying with Martina. If I come back to Bavaria one day, I would love to return here again.

Thank you so much Rima and Dennis for the amazing stay. I had a great time chatting with Rima and learning all about the local culture of the Ngāti Rārua and Te Ātiawa as well as many Māori traditions and words. Rima was able to set us up with the honor of being welcomed onto their Marae in a pōwhiri as well as an experience on a waka where we learned even more about the local traditions as we explored the waters near Abel Tasman national park. They provided a beautiful private space outside of the main house and great meals. There was a good variety of work helping them get reset after a big flood a few months back, we worked mostly on weeding and getting the soil reset for planting. I would definitely recommend a stay here if you are interested in learning lots about the local culture!! Rima is super knowledgeable about the past, the present and the future goals of the community and it’s really interesting. Lovely hosts in a lovely corner of Aotearoa. Ngā mihi nui, Mark

Gabriel was truly the best Workaway guest we could have hoped for. His demeanor is exceptional—he is tidy, focused, strong, cheerful, and a remarkably quick learner. He also cooks delicious meals and brings a positive energy into the home. Although he originally planned to stay for two weeks, we were delighted when he extended his stay to more than a month. Gabriel is the kind of person who follows through on his commitments; if he says he will deliver, you can trust that he will. We feel incredibly fortunate to have crossed paths with him. He enriched our family in ways we can never fully repay, and we will always be grateful for the time he spent with us.

Eline and Bob are the most down to earth, warm and welcoming people! As soon as I met them I felt right at home and part of the family! I really enjoyed my time I spent with them, whether we were playing board games, having a movie night or sipping Elines amazing cappuccinos at the kitchen table it was always such a cozy and caring environment. Eline is an intelligent, generous, and genuine human who I really found a good friend in. Bob is a hilarious and vibrant person, who I know I could always rely on for advice or a stressful situation. I can’t wait to come and visit my amazing Dutch family again! Love your Canadian bestie, Ruth xx

I spent a little over a month at Kastanek with the aim of discovering other educational methods. I was not disappointed! Kastanek is much more than a family center, it is a lovely community that welcomed me with open arms as soon as I arrived. My main tasks were to help during English classes and to play/interact with the children during breaks. I also helped out at the kindergarten in the forest and during field trips on Thursdays (“project days”). I had the opportunity to spend two days at the local public school. It was very interesting to be able to compare the two schools, as well as the Czech and French school systems, and to meet other teachers. In my first week, I went on a weekend hiking trip to Mikulov, which was great as I got to meet other parents, get to know the children outside of school and discover a bit of the country. After that, I was often invited to other outings and celebrations. I will always have good memories of St. Martin's Day here—it was magical! I stayed at a partner association, not far from the school. The head of the association is lovely. During the week, I ate delicious homemade meals at the school at lunchtime, and in the evenings and at weekends, I did my own grocery shopping with the budget I was given regularly. I can only recommend this workaway, you will be very well received and you will learn a lot! I hope to come back one day =) Thanks Marketa and everybody at Kastanek - Maëlys

I spent two lovely weeks with Géneieve and Luc. They were incredibly welcoming from day one, and they really made me feel at home. The work was rewarding and their hospitality was heartwarming. Although I spoke only a bit of French, they were patient and took the time to explain things, in English when possible. Géneieve even set out time in the afternoons so that she could teach me. Also I really enjoyed the movie nights organised by Luc, from his extensive collection of great films.

I spent just over two weeks with Eline at the farm and was very happy with workload and treatment! She was incredibly helpful and communicated well about everything that needed to be done on the farm. Looking after the animals was fun and everyday is different making things typically fun along with the others also being hosted. Eline also helped me on a very quick notice so I am grateful that she was able to be generous with that. Thank you very much Eline!

I had an amazing three weeks with Gunvor and Anders. They were always very kind, thoughtful, and supportive. Every morning, I went for long walks with Bella and helped out in their huge and wonderful garden. I was really impressed by their eco-friendly and sustainable approach, I learned a lot from them. One of the things that I enjoyed was cooking. Since Gunvor loves cooking, she had everything you could imagine, all the spices and all the tools! It was always fun to prepare dishes using vegetables from the garden. Sometimes we even tried out new recipes together, which I really enjoyed. I loved the beautiful nature and peaceful atmosphere of their home. Their lovely dog Bella was the cutest, and I will miss her a lot. She always greeted me with a big kiss and so much happiness. And even though shy little Alan the cat didn’t show up often, he was so sweet whenever he did. I strongly recommend everyone to visit and stay here. They made my first Swedish autumn truly wonderful! Tack så mycket för allt!

The family houses a very nice winery with everything you need to feel comfortable and work in the best possible way and has several excellent viewpoints over the wonderful hilly landscape of Tuscany! All members of the family are always open to questions and always ready to find and implement solutions to possible problems of all kinds. A lot of importance is attached to a quiet, honest coexistence and also lived, so that work and leisure time can be done and lived in a very peaceful environment. The work usually takes place in connection with the wine and oil processing or their provision for delivery. Here you get the instructions and can then do the tasks very independently. Comprehensive catering is always provided and you get a delicious hot meal served by the in-house chef on six evenings a week and eat together with the other employees, which rounds off the day with a very pleasant end. There is a direct connection to the area by public transport with own bus stop, which means that Siena (20min) and Florence (1h 20min) can be reached easily and quickly. At this point I would like to express my thanks for this time and thank the family very much for being allowed to work in this warm and peaceful environment and to experience a little more of the wonderful culture of Tuscany!
