I have spent 3 weeks on Emines farm. Food was amazing, work was fair, i enjoyed conversations with Emine and other volunteers. Some days were easy, some days were hard (thats a farm life baby)! On your days off you have many beautiful places to Visit, area around is amazing. Thanks for having me Emine.

Paola was an amazing host she was very kind to me and the dogs were so fun. She was working 12 hours a day and still made time to have dinner and spend a little time with me before bedtime. She is a wonderful cook and made me polenta it was so delicious! I would highly recommend her as a host.

I spent one month at Torben's place in Oct-Nov 2025, and time flew so fast! Regarding work, there are many different tasks to do in both houses, Tórshavn and Nólsoy, and I mostly participated in renovation (painting a room, repairing tiles in the bathroom, refurbishing wood furnitures, wood floor treatment, cutting and installing lysts,...) and started reorganizing Tórshavn kitchen. There were more tasks than time so it was quite nice to be able to choose the ones I liked best. Torben is demanding on quality, and can be quite challenging to reach perfection, but it's very satisfying to end with a nice task! He is quite flexible with organization and hours as long as the job is done, and was the first one to push me to enjoy the good weather and work later. He trusted me with the tasks and his houses, was always available for questions, and has almost all imaginable tools to work with. Regarding conditions, I had my own room in both houses and time to rest and enjoy the country. As a rule of thumb, it was one day off for one working day. Torben, also known as the plastic boxes lover, is the kindest and most generous guy. I felt trusted and at home instantly. He is respectful and caring, and the best advisor regarding day trips and hikes around. So I have seen a lot of the Faroe islands, more that I could hope for. He also brought me into fish transport missions for the Red Cross, to visit surprising local companies as well as to attend a concert of a local celebrity, so I could enjoy Faroese culture. Also, you can find any kind of food in Tórshavn, and Torben is very open to new cuisine too. He and I generally cooked alternatively when we shared meals. I often wonder how lucky I can get with my Workaway experiences, and I am really grateful I had the opportunity to work with him.

Forget about everything you experienced before coming to this place (for me gently called “home”). I was supposed to stay for 2 months, and here I am 4 and a half months later, leaving home. Fom the very first day I felt so welcomed. And once I understood that this was the base, I started helping to keep the energy at the same level or even better. I met people from every corner of this planet. I learned and improved my cooking skills. I pushed my social limits by helping run the events and doing everything naturally, simply because I felt comfortable enough to do it. Jacob, the manager, haha this is weitd to say, Jacob MY BROTHER/FRIEND ** who was always thinking about how we were feeling, if we were comfortable with everything and happy with the schedule, has this ability to show you how strong you really are and how capable you are of doing anything you want, things you might not have noticed before. And these are things I’ll take with me forever. I made friends that I now call family. I created memories that will always stay with me. And I found a place that I will always call home. Thanks for everything ♥ VERY breakfast for all!

This was my first WorkAway trip, and I was worried about how it would go, especially because my English was not very strong. On the first day, Robert came to pick me up, and from that moment I felt very comfortable. When I arrived at the house, two other volunteers, Djinn and Alicia, were there as well, and they have now become my friends. Tania and Robert were incredibly warm and welcoming, and very quickly I felt as if I were in my own home. Because of my studies, I had to stay in the city for about a year, and I truly needed a place like this. The stunning mountain views, being around and feeding the chickens, ducks, goats, and horses, and doing farm tasks brought my spirit back to life. Working on the farm was genuinely enjoyable for me; the workload wasn’t heavy, and we had plenty of free time. There was always food available, and the volunteers could also cook if they wanted. Robert and Tania are very generous people, and we could even use the bicycles to explore the beautiful surroundings. I am grateful to both of them for all the experiences and the new things I learned during this trip. I hope that one day I can invite them to my own farm and return the kindness they showed me. I truly hope that one day I can come back to this beautiful village, even if just for a few days. Robert has an impressive amount of general knowledge (like a Google!), and Tania is a strong and talented woman with many skills. I wish them both all the best.

This review details my experience and some things I learnt while staying with don Gianni in San Gimignano: First, a bit of background. Don Gianni is the parish priest of San Gimignano. This means that he has the immense responsibility of handling all the administration and ceremonies of the church, maintenance of church property and keeping the local community involved, apart from cooking the meals for the volunteers. This also means that Don Gianni is a busy man. To ensure that everything is taken care of in a good way, I found Don Gianni to be a very systematic person, something I have taken from him and tried to implement in my own life. Generally, days begin at 7:30 AM for breakfast, followed by 4-5 hours of work, a lunch personally cooked by don Gianni and then, depending on your schedule, you might choose what you want to do with your time. Dinner is later at around 8:30 when don Gianni finally finishes his day and cooks for us again. Some days, you might have dinner with the kids of the area as well, or other people of San Gimignano in the big dining hall of the house. The work itself is not physically demanding. Most of it is property maintenance (dusting, cleaning, mopping and putting things in order). Sometimes, there is gardening or other small projects depending on the weather. Other days, you might be helping don Gianni with general tasks like grocery shopping, church maintenance. During my stay of almost 25 days with don Gianni, I picked up a many things in the way he operates - the systems of the house, the right way to do things and of course, free cooking tips as well as help with learning Italian. Considering the amount of responsibility on his shoulders, I found don Gianni to be immensely patient and mostly jovial. He has gathered many life experiences, and it was a joy to hear him speak when you start asking the right questions. My relatively short stay in San Gimignano has enriched me far more than I could have imagined, and it has shown me sides of myself that I did not know existed. The lady who helps maintain the house, the volunteers (who I bonded really well with), the church workers, the kids and the oldies - I wish them all the very best. Don Gianni - we will see each other again. Until then, ciao :D

Our time was truly wonderful ✨ Every day started with a check-in and a shared breakfast, which made us feel part of the community right away. The tasks were usually gardening, building, painting, housekeeping, babysitting, etc. They were always meaningful and there was always help when we needed it 🌱 Enki is such a wise soul full of energy, always ready to play, have fun, and share the most interesting conversations. Michi, Karen, Bas, Nic, and Durjoy are some of the kindest, funniest, and most open-hearted people we’ve ever met 🫶🏻 Beyond volunteer hours, the group activities were very special too. We were part of singing circles, ecstatic dances, fire & full moon ceremonies, heart sharings, board games, movie nights and even sauna time 🧖🏻 And the food… always so delicious! We just left, but our hearts are still there. There’s truly no place like this, where nature, family feeling and personal growth come together. Forever grateful and can’t wait to come back very soon 🫂

Dearest Valerie and Laurent You weren’t just hosts; you became family. Those days and nights full of laughter, deep conversations, art, games, and pure joy are some of the most precious memories we’ve ever made. Sophia and Raphael are incredibly warm, open, and welcoming people! We loved being part of their daily life — cooking together, sharing conversations, and helping take care of their sweet son Gabriel. They are wonderful, loving parents, and it was inspiring to see the care they give him every day. We also learned many interesting things and gained a few new skills during our stay. This was an amazing experience — we will miss them very much and can’t wait to come back one day to see how everything has grown!

I was only supposed to stay three days in Valencia at a hostel, but my plans changed when they contacted me urgently for help. Having only had one experience before in France, I really wanted to try living abroad, so I jumped at the chance. I spent two weeks with them, experiencing their daily life. Lots of interesting conversations and exchanges with Xelo and Fede! Carme and Blai are very cute, but bring earplugs just in case XD they have tons of energy. There's plenty to do, but also enough personal time to explore the city and live like a local! I highly recommend this family who immediately made me feel at ease and gave me space while still including me in their lives. Muchas gracias, Xelo and Fede !

Yona spent several weeks with us and was an incredible help across both of our projects. On the farm, she supported content creation and helped design the packaging for our coffee, always bringing fresh ideas and a great eye for detail. She also volunteered at our school, giving classes and supporting the kids while they practiced their Spanish. the students loved her patience, kindness, and calm presence. She’s responsible, thoughtful, creative, and genuinely interested in contributing. Hosting Yona was a wonderful experience, and any future host would be lucky to have her.

The main task for volunteers is to take the dogs for walks. In addition, there are always current activities where help is needed. For example, I helped unload a large truck full of donations, distribute dog food into containers, and paint dog cages. For all these tasks, I was very grateful to be able to use donated clothing, which is available in large quantities. Meals are organized so that volunteers write a shopping list with the items they would like. The groceries are then purchased, and volunteers cook together in the well-equipped kitchen, which includes an air fryer, a microwave, and an induction stove. Leisure opportunities should not be underestimated. I went to the swimming pool, which has both a great lane pool for swimming and several pools for relaxation. In the pedestrian zone of Čakovec, I can recommend “P‘alapassion,” where they serve delicious pancakes and crêpes. I also took a bike trip to Varaždin, using the wonderful donated bicycle available for volunteers. What I especially want to highlight is the caring team, who look after both the animals and the volunteers with great dedication. I always felt welcome and supported, and I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to all of them. All in all, I can highly recommend the shelter for a stay.

My stay with Max and Mira was lovely and wholesome: I honestly don't think I could have asked for better hosts! I spent a month with them, and they made me feel welcome in their home as if I was part of the family The house is beautiful, warm, lively, and it is surrounded by nature (forests, deers, pheasants, small rabbits and so on) I got to help both outside, in the garden and apple orchard with winter harvesting and general maintenance, and inside, with cleaning, cooking with fresh, homegrown ingredients, and sometimes taking care of the kids (both truly lovely and cute) Max and Mira where so patient, taking time to explain to me the tasks and to teach me gardening tips whenever they had time It was my first Workaway stay, and I don't think I could have asked for a better one If you're a nature lover, the island of Bornholm is a hidden gem waiting for you, especially in the months of August and September, as the weather is a lot nicer than the rest of Denmark and the tourist season is over, so all that is left to do is explore and appreciate the island Max and Mira's farm offers the best starting point for you to truly enjoy the island, while also getting in touch with nature and having an overall relaxing and comforting experience Max and Mira, all the love to your gorgeous family, I truly hope to see you again :)

The volunteer and retreat experience I had at the Temple was amazing! The volunteer work I had were cleaning rooms, vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, grounds work, prep /cleaning kitchen duties, assisted with shop tasks and most importantly cleaning the temple from top to bottom. I really bonded with some of the nuns, monks, volunteers and staff. On a side note, the vegetarian food was really delicious, especially the fried tofu. The 6 day Mahamudra silent retreat experience was definitely challenging, but I really enjoyed and learned a lot from the teacher. I will definitely apply and practice this to my own life . I will always carry these terms in my mind when I try to do my meditation practices - the gross mind, subtle mind and very subtle mind. The 2 full days of silence was definitely challenging for me, since I’m considered a chatterbox. Haha! Overall the whole stay was phenomenal. I got so excited about this experience, I even booked a round trip ticket to the UK since I accepted to volunteer at the Temple next year in April for 2 weeks. How cool is that going to the very first temple that was ever built? Thank you everyone for making my stay here comfortable and enjoyable! Until next time!
