    INTRODUCTION

Hellooo... my name is Eli, and I wanna introduce you to my little spiritual retreat, a place to re-connect with yourself, your soul, intuition, creativity and inner peace. The project I dreamt about for years, but didn´t come true until the 5th of July of 2017, when I finally was able to buy this amazing although abandoned property, a country house broken into by burglars just before it was auctioned off by the bank at a bargain price. My retreat is more a hobby than an occupation.

A dream that didn't come 100% true since I was unable to live and share it with my "little girl" Dana, my dog, my loyal companion for nearly 14 happy and joyful years, who unfortunately struggled with liver cancer and hip displasia during the last 2 years of her life and eventually died 1 month before the purchase.

She was such a painful loss yet at the same time an opportunity to grow and develop the courage and determination necessary to overcome the pain and transform it into the passion, willpower and love that enabled me to rebuild this ruinned house and accomplish our dream, not free however of hard and exhausting work and sometimes even adversity, but always with her memories in mind. With her death we both started a new trip.

This is the outcome..........and to her memory it is dedicated.

    LOCATION

*The farm is located in Tegueste, a small country village, but with modern facilities and a busy city centre too, and a weekly local market. It´s 5-10 min drive from La Laguna city and Los Rodeos airport. The same from Bajamar and Punta del Hidalgo, both known by their natural swimming pools and a Paradise for surfers, with many surf spots. Also the perfect destination for hiking and trekking lovers, with Anaga Rural Park very close. In the farms besides mine, there are horses, goats, sheeps, chickens, pigs...

*There is an area for workawayers in the orchard with a stable converted into a common kitchen and restrooms, and a jacuzzi. Another area with a big house used for events and celebrations (this part is not ready yet). The whole area is under surveillance 24 hours to deter intruders and there are strongboxes available.

    ABOUT ME

*I work as a civil servant in the Fire Service. I consider myself open minded, responsable, sensitive, kind, councious, flexible, friendly, optimistic, adventurous and respectful.

*I´m interested in spirituallity, a healthy life style, sustainable living, counciousness and energie, body harmony, meditation, good series and documentaries.

*I like being and working in and with nature connected to animals and people (alike).

*My hobbies (when I have time) are travelling, discover new worlds, cities, magic places, interesting and lovely people so as their cultures, nature, my dog (she died), reading, family, surfing, hatha yoga, martial arts, mountain bike, hiking, caravaning, cooking, restaurants, special events (concerts, interesting meetings), city sightseeing.

    MY LIFESTYLE

*I try to be fit and healthy, because of my job and also because I feel very active and full of energie. That includes weekly doses of various sports and activities in nature and outdoors. A healthy diet too, but I don´t reject a good pizza or a hamburguer with a beer or a glass of wine sometimes.

*I don´t smoke, and I don´t mind if you do as long as you do it outdoors and you throw the stubs in the bin.

*I neither take nor allow drugs in the farm. It´s up to you if you consume them out the farm, but in case it affects you negatively and when you come back you become stupid or an idiot, you have a bad behaviour or attitude creating troubbles, dramas or hassles, towards me or any of the rest, you must pack up and leave inmediately.

*I want to make the previous point clear enough to avoid misunderstandings or unpleasant surprises. I´m a Kind and friendly person, but I don´t tolerate any kind of abuse or loss of respect.

    MY PHILOSOPHY

*I try to keep a positive attitude and a strong will power in life. I think they are very powerfull assets nowadays. They help you move forward in order to reach your goals in life and make your dreams come true, whichever nature, humble or ambitious they are, not give up at the first obstacle overcoming difficult situations and learn from mistakes, what makes you become humble and wiser. Resilience then comes by itself too. The power of imagination and meditation has a lot to do with it as well. There is a lot of bibliography and theories regarding to this.

*I respect and accept everybody the way they are or think without judging them or making assumptions.

*Although Im Catholic, I neither belive nor follow any religion the way established worldwide. Instead, I believe in LOVE (and I mean true unconditional Love towards yourself and the rest of the world) as the way and the feeling that makes people happy, feel fullfilled and live peacefully. It also helps you reach the necessary inner peace to live an idilic and magical life, full of counciousness focused in the present, here and now, regardless of the circumstances and situations, without disturbing and destructive thoughts, which are the seeds of negative emotions that will make you suffer unnecessary. It´s then when you get rid of the necessity to have more money a bigger house or a better car, more friends, to find your "better half", to travel more or to look better. You are happy and fullfilled with what IT IS and the way IT IS. You stop fighting and struggling with yourself and the world to get what (you) your ego wants. You exhale and feel very light. You adore simplicity. You wake up and realize all the rubbish and fake life this capitalistic system (usually unfair and irrational) and superficial society with empty values make us think as a must in order to "finally" reach happyness, when indeed, it was a lot simplier and accesible than that, and right now!

*I´ve found in Oriental Philosophy the principles and values that have made me feel and be this way. I discovered all these after going through some bad experiences and confusing periods in my life that led me carry out not that rich and abundant life as I do now (and I´m not talking about money here).

*Stoicism as a lifestyle. Marcus Aurelius, Séneca and Epictetus are my friends.

*Some books and authors I read and helped me discover these or the methods I follow are:"The power of now" (Eckart Tolle), "The elephant and the twig" (Geoff Thompson), "The monk who sold his ferrari", "Más Platón y menos Prozac" (Lou Marinhoff), "Who moved my cheese","Toma un café contigo mismo", "what the bleep do we know", "El cambio" (Wayne Dyer), "Losing my virginity" (Richard Brandson), "Nuestra hora en el escenario" (Richard Vaughan), "Into the wild", "the pursuit of happyness", "El niño feliz", "Cómo crecer cuando has crecido", “the 7 habits of highly effective people” and “first things first” (Stephen R Covey) Paulo Cohello, Jorge Bucay....among others.

  • Ajuda

    Ajuda

*My idea is to create an organic food forest based on permaculture. To set up an awakening consciousness community with growing own food, aware of the urgent necessity of a radical change in the current production system, so unsustainable, compulsive, harmful and insane (and I’m not talking about only the food industry here) causative of the climate change, that also promotes this abducted and sick society in multiple aspects, with likewise habits, in a place that is a reference for people with the same concerns, get to know and learn from each others, visit our similar projects in other/their countries, and like the ants, with the sume of our thousands small individual contributions, spread out our message, leave a legacy to create a healthier, happier, more sensible, sensitive and respectful balanced society, and as a result, a better and more beautiful world.... Plant a tree!

*The farm is 300mts height above the sea level, so it counts with topical trees like mangos, avocados, maracuyá, guayabo, grapes, carambola, chirimoyo, apple, oranges, papayas, lemons, plums, figs..., I would like to plant more exotics like chocolate, coffee, pineapple and grow vegetables. There are tropical palms in the jacuzzi area.

*In the short term, I need skilled hands to help me with gardening and general maintenance, reforming and expanding the actual elements (we are building an exterior extra kitchen and toilets)
Im also looking for a long term gardener/permaculture designer with ambitions to start up a permaculture model farm. So feel free to share your project, maybe it will enrich your CV as well.

*In the medium/long term, I´ll need help to set more tents/cottages for more volunteers, to build a stable for animals when I have them, and to get the big house ready for events and celebrations.

*I love cooking. We can learn food recepies and share typical dishes of our countries. It also enables us to have an intense interaction and create a link while we improve each other´s langguages at the same time.

*Why a helper?: It has taken me several years to save money and find time to rebuild and reform this ruined farm, and other failed attempts to set a bussines due to the current local laws. Covid 19 delayed everything even more. So now I’ve decided to lead the project to create a kind of community with the Workaway spirit, and get people alike with the same interests and likes for the project involved to start it up. I also like to have contact with people from different nationalities and cultures, enriching each other with the interaction and the langguage exchange.

*The daily tasks depend on the actual priorities that occur in the farm and where I need help during your stay. For your satisfaction (and mine) most heavy duties and big building works are over. But there are reforms and improvements to do yet. Sometimes I just need a hand fetching, picking or holding things, tools...we will previously plan the tasks or works a day or two before, and so, we can both organise the work alongside our schedules and personal issues in advance.

*Except in case any of us have a good reason to change it, I have found out the best working hours is from 8:00 am to 13:00 am, with enough time earlier to wake up and to have breakfast, and the rest of the day ahead free later.

*I don´t allow it neither drinking alcohol during the working hours for obvious reasons. The same with the use of the mobile phone or other technology devices.

*Cooking is one of the most important tasks you´ll do. If I manage myself well with the current task and I don´t need your help with it, I will need you in the kitchen getting lunch ready. When it´s suitable for both of us we can go to do the shopping once or twice a week. I will afford the basics.

*As Iam a Civil Servant, the retreat is more a hobbie than an occupation. I work in 24 hours shifts, and then I´m busy buying in the hardware or arranging budgets or works for the big house or with other personal issues. What means that sometimes you will be alone for days and working at your ease therefore. You need to be independent and autonomous too. For this reason, I offer and request flexibility.

*Silence from 22:00pm to 8:00am. We respect the rest hours.

*If you are a vegetarian, I can adapt to it. If you are a vegan though, I will try a bit harder or I´ll simply add "something" to my dish.

*NECESSARY PROFILE: The project is still taking shape... there is everything to do!
Any help is wellcome. If you also have experience in Eco projects/construction, maintenance, organic agriculture, Art projects, or know how to do a website you are my ideal person/people. I would be happy if you have skilled/talented hands or you are fit enough to manage the work, but what I most value is a responsable person/people with a positive "can do/willing to do attitude" with no fear or shame to get dirty. They must like the project and the life in the farm.

*IN RETURN: A friendly interaction and hospitality in a relaxing and quiet place in nature with amazing sunsets, away from the crowded and busy city (but close at the same time) while you enjoy the Island.

    Acomodação

*At the moment, the wood cottage and we will set one or two tents (the big one of the pic was very damaged and ripped apart by the last storm and strong winds, and we intend to get it repaired soon).
*The wood cottage is nearly finished.
*If you have your own tent bring it!

  • Algo mais...

    Algo mais...

*PLEASE NOTE: There usually are building works around, except in the workawayers areas, which are not affected at all and are completely finished (we have recently had several damages in tents and wood cottage due to storms and strong winds though)

*If you are a lazy person who doesn´t have any interest in the project and likes to play games or tricks to avoid working, who is only looking for free accommodation and food in the sunny and beautiful Tenerife, this is not a place for you, so don´t even bother contacting me and let´s not waste time because I can notice it sooner than later. The same if you haven´t carefully read and agree my whole profile (I know, sooo loong and precise or strict and boring) but experience has taught me that it´s better for both because all is cristal clear and you have plenty of information and an accurate description about the place, so that we could save misunderstandings, surprises or fake expectations, specially for you workawayers in case you have a brief one instead.

*For reasons I will explain in person, you can not bring local or foreign people to the farm without me knowing it in advance and my consentment. If you still do it, you must pack and leave with them too.

*We will set a trial period of a week, so that any of us will get to know if we feel comfortable and happy (or not) with each other and with the experience so far, and decide to continue or go away.

*Bus stop 5min walk. I can pick you up at the airport when you arrive and drop you when you leave.
