WHO AM I?
My name is Sam and I live in a magical little place on the side of a mountain in the South Pacific side of Costa Rica with my two kids (half the time). The property is secluded, private, quiet.... several acres of fruit trees, a greenhouse, and some really epic spots for a morning coffee, stroll through the jungle, or evening fire. Also a short drive or day-trip to lots of beautiful nature spots.
I can be very social, but also like my space and alone time. I'm a very orderly/clean type of person and it's EXTREMELY IMPORTANT for me that all spaces are well kept and free from clutter! If cleanliness isn't one of your strong suits, you'd better bring a really good partner/friend who excels at it. I also HIGHLY VALUE critical thinking and common sense (so if you're the type of person who walks by a weed more than 3 times without pulling it, or stacks wet dishes on top of dry dishes, for example, you need not apply!).
I'm a pretty vulnerable/raw type of person, and I enjoy an environment of radical transparency where we have boldness (and permission) to speak the truth, in love, and no one takes offense. We're DOING SOMETHING & GOING SOMEWHERE... offense and un-forgiveness will just slow us down.
Jesus is the calibration point of my reality, and I'm looking for people who share that same orientation of life (or are at least curious to discover it). The greater purpose of everything we're doing is to be little Jesuses, walking around and showing the world who God is and how he loves them.
WHO ARE YOU?
I believe our mission is to be the purest expression of God's nature as possible... among other things, this means doing everything with excellence and beauty whether it's cleaning the toilet or planting a flower. I'm looking for people who live (in practice, not theory) with the aim of all thought/speech/action coming from a root motivation of love.

HOURS & FOOD
Food for basic meals is provided, and creating meals from the land is encouraged/appreciated!! There's a small grocery store nearby if you'd like to buy special items as well.
20 hours/week of work is expected. Sometimes they'll be flexible and sometimes structured, just depending the nature of the project at hand.
OTHER NOTES:
There are 7 cats & 3 dogs on the farm, so you can't be allergic to those...
I also have my two exceptionally awesome kids every other week (12 and 14 years old). My daughter would be happy to learn a new recipe or bake something yummy with you. My son is the type who likes working out, shooting his pellet gun, or makeing something explode. They both enjoy art, and are sure to make you laugh with their witty comments :)
***NOTE*** This is the jungle... there are big loud clumsy flying bugs that pee on you in the forest. It's hot/humid, and you will be sweating profusely at times. There's no McDonalds or double-stuffed Oreos. Only one brand of peanut butter, the Vitamix is sacred, and makeup is futile.

WHAT WE DO!
There are several ways you can volunteer:
1. Farm Help: could be splitting firewood, tending the greenhouse, painting a room, pruning a fruit tree, carpentry projects,
general cleaning, cooking food off the land, or squeezing the juicy larva of a bot fly out of my dog's buttocks.
2. Food Boxes: this is a project to create networks of routine food deliveries to the needy, discover ancillary needs like
clothes/school supplies/mattresses etc, and find ways to fill those needs. The big picture is to build a scalable, systemic
model to replicate in other communities - fulfilling individual needs, while creating simple, direct ways for people to serve.
This project could use:
a) Help developing ideas & avenues for raising funds and posting individual needs in the public.
b) Help integrating with (or creating) something to manage data for families/volunteers/one-time needs etc. The goal is to
make process-oriented methods that can easily be duplicated in other communities.
c) Help growing/harvesting/processing food on the farm (fruits, veggies, roots etc) to distribute with the food boxes.
d) Help expanding the project to neighboring villages through outreach to churches.
3. Porn Filters: In this project, we visit schools (or any establishment with kids) to encourage monitoring/protection on kids devices. This project needs:
a) Help creating simple, documented processes detailing exactly how to install protections across each platform (iPhone,
Android, Mac, Windows, gaming consoles etc.
b) Help expand to other regions - find others passionate about this cause to take the lead in their own communities.
c) Help meeting with parents to hand-hold them through installing the parental controls app, and explaining how it works.

There are several different homes/cabins where you could stay - it just depends how many people are here at the moment & what makes the most sense for the guests.

There's quite an expat population around me with community events all the time. Within a walk or a day trip to hikes/waterfalls/beaches/town. Bus transport does exist, but also walking & hitchhiking are common. I personally drive around quite a bit so getting to the store or an event would not be difficult...
