    SPRING SUMMER 2023

Hello volunteers, this year I've programed a series of workshop and activities to revive our beautiful community and forest. I am looking forward to welcome you in our place to join us in the following activities and workshops:

-Stone carving workshop with 30 years experience carver
-Sustainable wooden cottage building and maintenance
-Open mic/poetry nights around the fire
-Food growing around the trees in forest
    -Help with general Forest cleaning

    ---—-----——————————————
My name is Ivan , 49 Years, sculptor and concept artist. I live in Solin, Croatia.
Nearly 20 years ago, I started this 'nature and culture' project for my self, the people and the environment to build a better and more sustainable future while living off grid.

It is important to recognise that this is not a park for holiday makers or for people who just want a place to stay. It is a place for development of yourself and surroundings. Work is less of a requirment here and more of a way of life. You have the oppertunity to create your own structure and daily rutine. I hope that each working day you are present and commited to maintaining and improving yourself and the park. 5 hours a Day, 5 days a week is a guide line but how you organise your time is down to you. So either more work or less work is entirely possible as long as we come to an agreement. You need to be able to independantly sustain yourself here and have the means to leave or come and go as you like.

The minimum stay I ask is 1 month, longer stays are very welcome... There is no maximum!

This is because it can take a few days before people really start to adjust to this way of life and to get to know what projects they prefer.
Shorter stays may be possible depending on my schedule. Please message me for more information.

Feel free to message me with any questions you may have and I would be happy to answer them for you.

Please quote 'FOREST CULTURE' when you message me, so that I know you have read the description fully.

    Ajuda

    There are a number of different jobs in the forest and the vegetable/flower garden, such as;

    Pruning shrubs & trees
    Repairing stone walls
(Light) weeding - but we all know how boring this can be so you won't be doing it for hours!
Maintaining existing vegetables and fruit trees/vines
    Watering
Repairing/improving structures, building structures & working with timber/natural materials
    Harvesting fruit and vegetables

At the moment i am looking for people with expertise in COOKING, CARPENTRY, STONE CARVING and ADVERTISMENT.
Despite your skillset it is the right attitude i'm looking for, my current priority is trying to maintain the beauty of the park so every one is welcome.
It's really important that the local people are invited to be a part of what is happening here.

You are free to express yourself here, if you have any suggestions or ideas on how to improve something; structurally even just visual aesthetics. We want to here from you!

    Acomodação

In winter volunteers can have their own Forest style cabins. In summer volunteers can sleep in tents that I will provide, spread out over various spots around the peaceful forest.
There is a hand built indoor area for cooking and hanging out.
There are a few wood stoves and a fire pit as during the summer we mostly cook outdoors.
There is a beautifully built compost toilet with total privacy and a lock - NOTE: THIS IS THE ONLY TOILET HERE.
Outdoor summer shower/winter shower and Sauna (some help is needed to get the sauna up and running again)
A climbing area/gym in the forest
A partially indoor library and freedom! Everywhere!

There is a fridge but there is no washing machine. All laundry must be done by hand.

The situation is very beautiful but basic here.
There are many supermarkets, shops and cafes within walking/cycling distance.
You are free to cook your food separately, or we can cook communally, it's up to you!

Internet is very limited and only available for emergencies or to check emails quickly, check bus schedules etc. But there are many cafes and places to access internet for longer periods should you need to.

    Algo mais...

There are various little activities within walking distance from there park. The park is a half hour walk from Salona, one of the biggest Roman ruins in the area. There's also a beautiful 3.5 - 5 hour hike to the top of the mountain that offers a spectacular view. Other potential activities include going to the local flea market, swimming in the river, or visiting the sea with a small stone beach and a fun hidden mud pit.

The park is also within a half-hour bus or bike ride from downtown Split, Trogir and Kastela. There are ferry ports to the famous Dalmatian islands of Hvar, Brac, Vis and Korcula.
    I can provide some bicycles.

    DIRECTIONS AND DETAILS:

If you have a smart phone, you should load the map of Solin while you still have Wifi. Though there isn’t an address for the park, the directions are relatively simple.

Volunteers arriving from the Split bus station, train station or ferry terminal can head west along the promenade in front of Diocletian’s Palace, then head north to HNK, the Croatian National Theatre. If you get lost, just ask someone for HNK and they will tell you where to go. The city bus stop is in front of the theatre. Take bus number 1 and get off at the second to last stop. Also if you tell the bus driver you are going to Solin, they are usually pretty helpful. Once off the bus walk right about 50 meters and turn right at the stone driveway at the blue bus stop sign. Then take your first left at the fork in the road an you will then see the park on your right. You can't miss it with all the large stone art installations. However, if you do accidentally go to the last bus stop it's not a problem. It's just a short walk to the previous bus stop. You can also just give me a call at any point and I can direct you. It may be easier if you call me as soon as you get off the bus. :)

Volunteers coming from Trogir should take bus number 37 and get off in Sveti Kayo.

The park entrance is not marked, though there is a blue bus stop sign directly in front of the stone road you must walk down to get to the park. As mentioned, please feel free to just call me as soon as you get in Solin or when you get off the bus as this may be easier than trying to find it yourself. If you do not have a phone, you can find someone to call me and I will tell them how to direct you to the park. Don’t worry, people living in Solin are nice people.

Doesn’t apply if you take the bus: If you aren’t taking the bus (if you are hitchhiking, for example), a good landmark to get dropped off at or orientate yourself around are the ruins, Salona. If you are walking from Salona, go out to the main road, Ulica don Frane Bulica and walk west (take a left if you are walking out of the Salona parking lot). You will have a 2 kilometer walk on Ul. Don Frane Bulica, and on your right, you will eventually pass a café (Silver Cafe), then in the next building there will be a bakery, this means you are close. Walk down the hill right after the bakery, and you will see a stone road with a blue bus sign on the right side of the road. Walk up this road and stay left, and you will get to the park.
