Volunteering with us offers a unique cultural exchange in a small coastal village where tourism and local life are closely connected. You will be working alongside local Panamanians, giving you the opportunity to practice your Spanish daily, understand local customs, and experience life in a rural community.

At the same time, you will meet travelers from all over the world, creating a dynamic and international environment where cultural exchange happens naturally, both with guests and other volunteers.

Through trips to Coiba National Park, you will learn about tropical marine ecosystems and island biodiversity. You’ll learn to identify marine species such as turtles, rays, reef fish, and occasionally dolphins or sharks, as well as understand the importance of conservation in one of the most pristine areas of the Eastern Tropical Pacific.

Living in Santa Catalina, a well-known destination for surfing and diving, you will also be immersed in an ocean-based lifestyle. You can develop your skills in snorkeling, improve your confidence in the water, and gain hands-on experience in guiding, tourism operations, and guest interaction.

Overall, this experience is a combination of cultural immersion, environmental learning, and practical skills in ecotourism, ideal for anyone interested in nature, the ocean, and working with people from different backgrounds.

  • Ajuda

    Ajuda

We welcome people with a variety of skills and backgrounds, especially those passionate about the ocean and nature. To volunteer with us, you must be fluent in both Spanish and English.

Our volunteer role is hands-on and involves being part of the full daily operations of a small snorkeling company. This includes not only working with guests, but also helping behind the scenes to make sure everything runs smoothly.

Your tasks will vary depending on the day, but typically include:

    - Welcoming guests and helping with check-in at the office
    - Explaining the tour and providing information about Coiba National Park
    - Assisting with administrative tasks and reservations
    - Helping prepare and organize equipment before trips
    - Assisting on the boat and supporting guests during snorkeling sessions
    - Cleaning and rinsing snorkeling equipment after tours (masks, fins, life jackets, etc.)
    - Helping keep the boat, office, and work areas clean and organized

Cleaning and equipment care are an essential part of the job. We work in the ocean every day, and maintaining gear and spaces in good condition is key for safety, hygiene, and the quality of our tours. Everyone in the team is involved in these tasks.

Some days are long and physically active, especially when going out to Coiba. You will spend time in the sun, on boats, and in the water. Flexibility is essential, as plans can change depending on weather and operations.

We expect volunteers to be proactive, responsible, and willing to contribute to all aspects of the work, including the less glamorous tasks.

This role is best suited for people who:

    - Enjoy working with people and as part of a team
    - Are comfortable in the ocean and physically active environments
    - Have an interest in marine life, ecotourism, or guiding
    - Understand that running tours involves both guest interaction and operational work

    Requirements:

    - Fluent in BOTH Spanish and English (mandatory)
You must be able to communicate confidently in Spanish with the captain and guides on the boat, and in English with our guests. (If you are applying as a couple, BOTH people must meet this requirement. Please do not apply if you are not fluent in both languages.)
    - Minimum stay of 1 month
    - Preference will be given to those who can stay longer.
    - Strong swimmer/snorkeler. You must feel confident in the ocean and be able to assist guests in the water, including in currents.
    - Able to work independently. We value proactive people who can take initiative.
    - Good organizational skills
    - Positive, social, and energetic attitude
    - You enjoy interacting with people from different cultures and creating a great atmosphere.

    Who we’re especially excited about:

We love working with people who have experience or interest in nature, guiding, snorkeling, scuba diving, marine biology, conservation, or ecotourism.

Flexibility is key! You’ll be involved in many aspects of our daily operations, from tours to office tasks, and supporting the team wherever needed.

Singles and couples are both welcome to apply.

    Acomodação

We are excited to share that, as of June 1st, 2025, our volunteer house has moved to a brand new location!

Volunteers will stay in a new house in a shared room, with access to a shared kitchen and bathroom. The house is comfortable, social, and a great place to connect with other volunteers.

On days when you join trips to Coiba National Park, lunch will be provided and prepared by our chef. On all other days, meals are your responsibility.

There are several local restaurants in the village, as well as three small grocery stores where you can buy food and cook your own meals. You will have full access to the kitchen, and many of our volunteers enjoy cooking together as a way to save money and share the experience.

For internet access, volunteers can easily purchase prepaid SIM cards (around $1) and 5-day data packages from Más Móvil or Tigo for approximately $5.

  • Algo mais...

    Algo mais...

Santa Catalina is a charming little beach town where you can slow down the pace of life for a while. Immerse yourself into the local culture and become one of the villagers during your stay. The beaches are lovely, the locals are friendly, and the vibe is laid back here.

You should also be aware that although for us Santa Catalina is close to paradise, some people find it difficult to live here. Few shops, little night-life, difficult internet, bugs, heat, power cuts, and water shortages are a part of the
experience and you need to be aware of that. This volunteer opportunity is not for everyone! We love the tranquility and simplicity as much as someone else might hate it.

We find our joy in the millions of stars at night, stunning sunrises and sunsets, walks on the beach, and socializing with our friends.
Through the work we do, we meet new people every day with whom we can share the
amazing experience of the wildlife and natural beauty in Coiba and we work hard to make that experience unforgettable for them. In return, they enrich our lives by sharing their stories and
experiences with us and always bringing a breath of fresh air to Catalina. We are looking
for someone who will hopefully share this passion with us.

Please understand that if you are applying for more than 2 months in advance it may take
us some time to give you a definite answer. We sometimes allow our volunteers to extend their stay and
can therefore not plan that far ahead.
