I had the most wonderful first two weeks in Australia thanks to Vita! Not only did she open her beautiful home and garden to me, but also took me on drives around the area, cooked delicious meals, made the best cocktails, and gave me lots of useful advice on how to get settled into my new life in Australia.
The work and living arrangment are
… read more exactly as she describes and as you can see on the photos. I worked in the garden doing mostly weeding. The work itself was very rewarding and Vita always made sure I had the right tools and knew what I was expected to do. The garden and area surrounding her house are absolutely beautiful. During my days off, Vita pointed out the best hiking trails in the area for me and even drove me to the trailhead. On other days we went to the city together and again I was very much aided by Vita's tips on how to get around the city and the best spots to visit.
I couldn't have asked for a better workaway experience, and I recommend it to anyone who loves the outdoors, is hardworking and diligent, and knows how to appreciate Vita's generosity. Thank you Vita and I hope I can see you again soon!

What a fabulous 2 weeks I had with Vita! The work can be hard (I did LOTS of weeding) but Vita works just as hard, as well as providing plentiful and delicious meals, and taking me for picnics and other outings. It's a beautiful property and area, and we had great conversations too.
The only issue was that the separate and barn accommodations are

First of all, I apologize for my late response.
I arrived in Australia two weeks before I went to Vita's place. It was my first Workaway experience and I couldn't ask for a better host.. Vita's home is a cozy little house with a big garden in a quiet area in the middle of the forest . I stayed there for three weeks.
I helped with mowing, wedding,
… read more raking and cleaning up the garden and trimming the hedges. When the weather was bad, we stayed inside, and I sewed curtains. I worked 5 hours a day, 5 days a week, which was a good balance of work and free time. Vita made delicious, fresh and healthy meals 3 times a day and there was always plenty of fresh food. I fell in love with Vita's apple crumble. I stayed in her house and slept in a guest bed in the dining area, next to the kitchen.
Vita is a really kind person who loves to laugh and chat. We found many shared interests and did some activities after work or on our days off. We went op shopping, visited flower festivals and plant fairs, watched movies, and she showed me the area around Olinda. She knows some beautiful sunset spots with an amazing view over Melbourne and the surrounding area. And also helped me set up a bank account and get a TFN.

This is a little late but thank you for all your help, it was very much appreciated.
Robert stayed with me for three weeks and he was great at giving the garden a superlative make over which looked absolutely glorious for Christmas.
The planter boxes you helped me put together are now set in the ground and have an amazing crop of potatoes

Robert worked hard and tirelessly, with never a complaint, and his work standards were very high.
Some days he gardened during the day and in the evening he went to his paid job in the city and the next day he continued gardening again.
Robert also helped me edit several private emails in the evening.
Ultimately you know that he is going to excel at whatever he chooses to do. I was very lucky to have Robert join me; and hope that he returns some time soon!!

Just finished a three week Workaway with Vita and I have to say I couldn't have asked for a better host. She welcomed me to her beautiful home in the hills of Olinda, with gorgeous, towering forrests and jaw-dropping sunsets (which she will take you to see from an incredible viewpoint).
Vita was incredibly generous with her help in getting me set
… read more up in Australia. She pushed me to fix up a couple of resumes and helped me sort out my bank accounts and tax number, which resulted in me finding not one but two jobs before the end of my stay.
You'll be helping in her glorious garden, which can be hard at times but very rewarding. There's plenty to do and a lot of it is physical, so you'll be getting good exercise in. But she will keep your energy levels going with delicious home-cooked meals and her specialty mango smoothies (to die for!).

… read more enormous climbing rose that was past its best and growing over an outdoor archway and created a new outdoor seating/eating area.
He worked hard and tirelessly, with never a complaint, and his work standards were very high.
It's hard not to be too superlative, but he was also amazing with my family and neighbours in terms of friendly and social conversation. Ultimately you know that he is going to excel at whatever he chooses to do. I was very lucky to have Denis join me; and hope that he returns some time soon!!

Both Penny and Jan were life savers. They
… read more designed and built a boxed garden bed using recycled timber to plant a hedge of camellias and hydrangeas, enclosed some 200 metres of fencing using a mixture of recycled timbers, bricks and logs to stop wild animals coming into the garden, helped to pot up and plant some standard roses, removed and replaced some 200 bricks around the bottom of the barn cladding. They cleaned the garden grounds from tree debris, in total we raked lots and lots of garden waste and also cut all the grass in the garden almost two acres and because it was so high, they went over with the mower twice and helped set up a compost bin secured with bricks and mulched around the base. Penny thank you for going the extra mile and willingly working back to finish the grass cutting.
In between they helped to sort and stack firewood, tidying up a very messy and cluttered side port and it did not stop in the garden. In the morning they were a great help in the kitchen making breakfast for four and preparing fresh fruit smoothies for everyone, they helped with lunch and dinner and the dishes.
Thank you for your generosity, introducing me to Korean peach wine, buying and sharing a bottle of wine to celebrate the end of the two weeks.
You are both super intelligent, smart and very self motivated with a can do attitude and lots of initiative, your architectural and design skills were very much appreciated, since you enhanced its design, the culvert has not blocked with gravel or/and tree debris. I just needed to tell Penny and Jan what I was trying to achieve and they both did all the thinking and planning to achieve the end results.
You were both a great help, support, very reliable and always polite and respectful towards me. And as a team you worked brilliantly together and with the other helper.
I would welcome both Penny and Jan back anytime they want to come and they are highly recommended to any host lucky enough to receive them.

From day 1 Vita was really welcoming and easy going.

… read more was tough, but fun and we worked on a number of different projects. We really appreciated how structured the days were (always started at 9am and finished by 2pm).
Vita is a brilliant cook! We were spoiled with lovely food every day. Our highlight was her fresh homemade pizza and the endless fruit she provided - which we often made into lovely smoothies every morning.
The surrounding area is really beautiful. We went on a number of different walks and the nearby town of Monbulk has everything you'd ever need. On a couple of occasions Vita took us up to the SkyHigh lookout, where we saw the most amazing sunsets over the distant Melbourne Skyline.
Overall we had a great time at Vita’s. She was incredibly generous (lending us a tent for a festival we went to after) and was so helpful in getting us settled in Australia. She definitely goes above and beyond for all her volunteers.

Both Gemma and Blaise were life savers. We sorted and stacked great big tree logs for firewood, did lots of weeding and cleaned the garden grounds from tree debris in total we raked more than a tonne of garden waste.
Both Gemma and Blaise are very smart, dependable, fit, strong, and a very willing workers who approached every task with a smile on their face.
Both Blaise and Gemma stayed back after lunch and dinner to enjoy amazing discussions and exchange cocktail and food recipes.
You were both a great help, support, very reliable and always polite and respectful towards me.
Blaise thank you so much for replacing so many broken handles on the various garden rakes, which were broken by other helpers.

Being our first homestay, she really took us in as if we were her own. Coming all the way from Canada, this was the best case scenario and are still super grateful to this day!
The work was hard labour, which she warned us about before arriving. And oh boy! She wasn’t kidding, I reckon I gained 5 pounds of muscle in the process!
Although somedays were a little intense, if anything I felt so healthy and strong after leaving!

Both Christine and John were brilliant with all the gardening tasks assigned to them and my apologies if the tasks were a little too hard for you.
They made the garden look like a wonderfully curated park, they also helped with removing pruning waste, weeding and spreading mulch around garden beds and collecting and stacking firewood.
They were a great help with the open burning and thank you for teaching me to roast fresh tomatoes on the open fire and make salsa.

Vita accepted us last minute which we really appreciated! We had a great time getting to know her, helping on her property, and exploring Olinda and the beautiful surrounding area. … read more but was rewarding and we enjoyed it! Her "garden" is actually her massive property, so be prepared for lots of different tasks.
We slept up the hill at her uncle's house. The walk to and from Vita's house was fine, but there was quite a bit of mold in the house. Thankfully, the bedroom was mold-free so we didn't mind sleeping there. Still, we think it's worth noting in case you're sensitive to mold.

Her property is located in the beautiful forests of Mt Dandenong, so if you like experiencing nature and wildlife this is the place to be. I've got my accommodation in a new Barn which is mainly used as a toolshed but it was clean and the beds are very comfy.
