Detalhes
Descrição
Experience life in the Australian bush on a small co-operative community 1 hour south of Byron Bay.
12 households share 200ha of elevated coastal bush land overlooking the spectacular Bundjalung National Park and Pacific Ocean. We share the land with many native animals, including kangaroos, wallabies, goannas, birds, and some endangered species.
We live completely ‘off-grid’. This means we harvest our own water, and generate power from the sun. On Fridays we have a community dinner where each household brings a plate of food to share, but otherwise we all live independently.Tipos de ajuda e oportunidades de aprendizado

Oportunidades de intercâmbio cultural e aprendizado
Travellers will experience a rural Australian non-intentional community lifestyle. You'll learn how we live cooperatively with nature, other people and escape the 'rat-race' of city living.
We like to start work after breakfast, and you can spend the afternoon enjoying the beautiful property, and surrounding national park, or swimming in our dam or at the nearby beach (Black Rocks).Projetos que envolvem crianças

Ajuda
The activities we have for you really depend on what we are working on. You may also work with different families, to vary and enrich your experience! Some jobs may include gardening, building, site preparation, stonework, preserving (e.g. making jams) etc.
Don’t worry about the skills or experience you have – there are many jobs to do and something for everyone! If there's something in particular you would like to gain experience in, let us know and we'll try and facilitate.
The volunteers who seem to enjoy our property are those who are enthusiastic and interested in the outdoors and nature. Or people interested in learning about permaculture, organic farming practices, and living off the land. Depending on the season, the work can be quite easy, and at other times it can be quite a work out. To get a better idea of the lifestyle here, please read our feedback from other workawayers.Idiomas

There are a few accommodation arrangements depending on availability. We have a cosy little guest hut (called the hexagon) nestled in amongst the trees. When the hut is available you have your very own private space to sleep in, which is perfect for couples. Or you may stay in a separate guest house with one of the families. We have accommodation for up to 5 people, or more, if you bring your own tent/campervan.
Algo mais...
Volunteers are welcome to stay for a short or long time and share all meals with us, in exchange for 4 to 5 hours help each day. Usually, we have a self-service arrangement for breakfast, but we meet for lunch and dinner.
If you don’t have your own vehicle, we can pick you up from Ballina, Lismore or Woodburn.
We also welcome last minute, spontaneous types so feel free to shoot me a text and try your luck!Mais alguns detalhes

I feel like I learned a lot about gardening and also a little bit about construction.
The community is really cool, and I would recommend to everybody to see how these people live together, the Friday night dinners are also heaps of fun… read more

Meg loved receiving your feedback and pleased you enjoyed your two weeks with the community. We love to have volunteers who are interested in learning about organic farming and the native wildlife - it's enriches the exchange for both parties. Thanks for your hard work and please come back if you ever find yourself in northern NSW again.
Thanks for your lovely feedback. We really enjoyed having you volunteer with us. We are glad you enjoyed the alternative way of life and the variety of the activities. We love that you were always willing to give something a go, and wanting to work longer than you had to! You didn't have to, but it was such a great help for us :) We… read more
