    SHORT TERM OPPORTUNITY
One of the families that live here are currently in Europe for 5 weeks so their hand-built and beautiful van is available for accommodation for a solo traveller or couple. Let us know if your are in the area and would like to come be part of what's going on here. Preference to those who can stay a few weeks.

Hello, hola! We are two families, living alongside each other, slowly and intentionally establishing a land based community together.

Together we have bought 53 acres of land in a beautiful, rural landscape in Fairburn. Within 30mins of Kaitaia, doubtless bay and Peria.

We each have our own personal areas on the land, where we live and are establishing our own personal gardens/food forests, as well as communal land which we intend to use for communal crops, regeneration and other communal projects. We have a 30square meter yurt (soon to go up) which will be a communal hub for ourselves and our wider community to use as a space for sharing time together and with the kids, as well as for yoga, meditation, circles and workshops.

Although we have our own private spaces, we enjoy communal living through weekly working bees, co-parenting, shared meals, music/bonfire nights etc.

Eventually we would like to open the land to another shareholder, and short/long term residents.

We have 2 horses staying with us currently, but would love to extend our animal family. There is cellphone reception but it is limited. We all eat mostly plant based.

Some of the shared values of our community are:
    * Respect and care for the land and all beings
    * Recognising the interconnectedness of all things, honouring the sacred and spiritual
    * Care for others, generosity and reciprocity
    * Self-responsibility - a willingness to look honestly at ourselves and our contribution to the difficulties we experience in life, and a desire to learn and grow alongside each other
    * Conscious communication, vulnerability and authenticity
    * Freedom and autonomy - respecting each persons right to make their own decisions, within a context of care and consideration of others
    * Care for self - free of abusive use of drugs and alcohol

You have the option (depending on availability) to stay with either of the two families. Please let us know if you have a preference.

UPDATE: Hannah and Will are heading overseas for 5weeks from 21st July - 25th September. We are looking for a person or couple to come and “house sit” in our campervan during that time, stay with our dog Tiki, feed the chickens etc. Set up is simple and includes compost toilet, fire baths etc. If you’re keen, please reach out! The other family, Hannah and Erik, will be around and can offer you some good company, and work/meal exchanges if you’re interested!

*** Hannah, Will and Norah ***

Hello! We are Hannah, Will, Norah and Tiki. We - Hannah (born in Wellington) and Will (from Belgium) - met on the beautiful west coast beaches of Portugal in 2017. From there we came to NZ to start pursuing our dream of creating an abundant off-grid oasis. We brought with us Tiki, our beloved dog adopted from the Portuguese beaches, and after not too long came along Norah, our lively and lovely 2 year old born up here in the Far North.

Will is generally very handy and spends a lot of his time building and gardening for ourselves and others in the community. He loves to use a lot of reclaimed and naturally harvested materials. He is passionate about growing food and setting up permacultural systems, using the knowledge he has picked up from his time in various communities and courses, combined with his own practically thinking mind. He likes to surf, and builds alaia’s (traditional wooden surfboards).

I, Hannah, am newer to gardening, but am finding my way. I am inspired to create beauty and abundance around us, filled with beautiful plant life and nourishing food for our family. I teach yoga and am starting to venture down a path of bodywork (based on an holistic appreciation of the psychosomatic connection) and birth support. I am extremely passionate about supporting women through pregnancy, birth and new motherhood and helping them to find and claim their power through this tremendous rite of passage. I also love to take part and hold space for womens circles, and diving deep into our sacred wombenhood 🤍

Together, we are so blessed to be the parents/guides of our beautiful daughter Norah. We love this journey of becoming parents and growing alongside her and are so grateful to be parenting alongside another wonderful family! We are excited for her to have the opportunity to connect with other beautiful people who pass through our land.

Currently we are doing up our cabin so our accomodation options are limited. It would be preferable if you have your own campervan, however do reach out if you don’t as maybe we can find another way to accomodate you, depending on where we are at with various projects.

The exchange we propose is 4-5hours per day, for 5 days in exchange for all meals and the opportunity to stay in our awesome little community :)

Help exchange could be anything from gardening, building, cooking, preserving, hanging out with Norah etc - all depending on your interests and skills, and our needs at the time.

Projects that we are currently working on/coming up are:
    Growing mushrooms
    Establishing a garden/food forest
Building the foundations for the communal yurt
Building shelters off our van and shipping container
Renovating a cabin and building a bedroom off the back
    Outdoor fire bath
    Outdoor toilet and shower
Growing seedlings and establishing a nursery
    Building a greenhouse

*** Hannah, Erik and Sunai ***

Kia ora, haere mai to our humble abode by the river. We are Erik, Hannah and our daughter Sunai. We live a pretty simple life here in a small bus, connected to our surroundings and the cycles of life. We look forward to welcoming likemided humans to come be a part of it all.

Erik is from Spain and I (Hannah) am from the south island, Aotearoa. We have both lived nomadically for some years in various countries, connecting deeply with different people and cultures. We are now enjoying the fruits of grounding on the land and creating our home and family.

Erik loves plants, foraging and people. His gardening is inspired by Fukuoka (non-intervention, letting nature do its thing) and traditional techniques from the tropics/Mediterranean. He has a background on Permaculture (Certificate in Permaculture Design and experience from living, leading and coolaborating in permacultural projects in Spain, France and Mexico) and on agroecology (organic agriculture as an holistic approach envolving seed saving, interaction with local ecosistemes and society, etc. He has an apprenticeship on this and several years of experience, and still so much to learn). He tries not to be limited by this background though, leaving intuition and nature guide sometimes. He has a creative and experimental soul which he brings to building, cooking, music and life in general, and he likes to combine the experimentation with the proven knowledge from his and others experience.
He is deeply grateful for the time travelling and staying with families and communities around the word, from what he has learns so much about relating with the land, the people and himself, so very excited about humbly give something back.

I (Hannah) like to live slowly and simply, guided by curiousity and intuition. At the moment this looks like continuously refinding my feet as a mama, crafting woodfired pottery, processing cacao in the traditional Mexican way and working on the land. I am a yoga guide and have my daily practice of yoga/meditation/dance which I love to share (guiding and following).

We ask for 3 hours of mahi per day in exchange for breakfast and a midday feast each day. We don't generally cook in the evening so ask you to find your own groove here and on non-work days. Tasks include building garden beds and general gardening, building (small shed/s, big shed, roof structures, pizza oven, fire bath, greenhouse, shade house, Berry House, and more) landscaping, establishing some areas of the food forest, helping Hannah with her cacao project, nursery work (raise vegetable and tree seedlings, take cuttings, watering, making organic liquid fertiliser, homemade rooting hormones.. Etc) plant barriers for kaykuyu grass (a powerful creepy grass that takes over vast areas at wild speed but can't stand to be shaded) and hanging with Sunai. We would also love to create space for your own unique gifts to flourish, so are quite open with what "work" may look like It is preferable that you have your own accomodation in a tent or camper but can look at other sleeping arrangements if needed. You could even build your sleep out!

Looking forward to extending our tribe!
