That's our family: My wife Carina (33), our children Benedikt (5), Henrike (3) and Clara (1) and me, Andreas (34). We live together in our house in a little village called „Ankum“ in lower saxony, Germany.
We are searching for one or two workawayers who will support us chopping wood. We have an automatic wood splitter, so the work is not to hard.
Our house is big enough, we have to guestrooms so there ist space for another persons. We are very open minded and interested in learning other cultures. Thas why we hope we can meet many interesting people with workaway.

We can show you the beautiful way of living in the country side of germany. If you want, you can take part in our daily living. We often have friends at home to have a barbecue or thinks like that. Maybe you prefer to visit interesting places like the university city osnabrück or hamburg alone. Then we will help you to get there.

We have two big guest room in our house, which was used by the kids for playing. There you have your own TV and naturally wifi. You have your own bathroom with shower, which is exclusive for you. If you want you can use our sauna and after that relaxing in our second living room. On warm evenings you can sit on our big terrace, watching in our garden and maybe read a book. Of course our garden is also perfect to play with the children, they love it.

Around Ankum you can enjoy the unique landscape called „Teutoburger Wald“. And if you are interestend in history you can visited the worldwide known „Kalkriese Varusschlacht“ where you can learn in a lot of thinks about the roman empire. Or you are interested in the way of live which our ancesotrs have, than you can visit the „Museumsdorf Cloppenburg“. But maybe you are more interested in visiting cities. We have a trainstation nearby and from there you can easily get to Hannover or Hamburg.

Mein Aufenthalt bei Andreas und Carina war unglaublich. Sie sind eine super nette und herzliche Familie, bei der man sich wie zu Hause fühlt! Meine Arbeit bestand den ganzen Monat im Holzspalten. This family were, from the very first day, very welcoming and open-minded. Their house couldn’t be more comfortable and spacious, with two rooms in the attic for guests and a lovely bathroom nearby as well. This gives you more than enough space to relax in if you want an hour to yourself. Carina made a huge effort with making lovely food and made… read more me feel as welcome as possible. Andreas was always as helpful with the construction project as possible. Even though he had to work during the days, he always made it easy to ask him for help. I think his contact list is endless, as he always had someone to call when we ran into a problem.

Ankum is a very beautiful town in Lower Saxony. I didn’t realise how incredible the houses would be in Ankum as well as the surrounding towns. Their house is only a five-minute walk from Edeka, Lidl, Aldi and other shops too. If one wants to get a drink, there is a lovely small pub as part of Hotel Billenkamp. There are also a few restaurants in the town too. It’s very easy to cycle to the nearby towns such as Bersenbrück. If you want to travel further, perhaps to Osnabrück or Münster, it’s easy to take the train from the Bersenbrück station.

The work was very manageable and I felt it was fairly divided up. Theo, the other Workawayer and I would begin during weekday mornings at 8:30am and finish at around 12:30/1pm. However, we could choose our own hours and if we wanted to work in the afternoon we could have. It was very rewarding to help them with this particular construction project, as it meant a lot to them at a personal level.

In my free time I could explore the German countryside, the nearby towns or relax at home if I wanted. It was very beautiful to cycle around both during the day and during the night. Especially beautiful was the amount of stars you could see during the night, as you wouldn’t have this in a large city. Carina and Andreas hosted many dinners, and I was introduced to all of their friends as if I was part of the family. This gave me the chance to meet many new people and many beers were drank in their garden!

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my stay with Carina, Andreas and the kids. It was an excellent opportunity for me to improve my German skills and see what the best of rural life in Germany is like. I have only the best of wishes for this family, and look forward to seeing them some time in the future when I’m visiting Germany again!:)

Javier war unser erster Workawayer und gleich vom ersten Tag an fühlten wir uns sehr wohl mit ihm! Es war toll ihn bei uns in unserer Familie zu haben, wir haben viel gelacht und durften auch einiges über Chile erfahren. Javier hat sich sofort in unseren Familienalltag eingefügt und diesen durch seine charmante, humorvolle und aufmerksame Art sehr bereichert. Javier hat uns bei so vielen verschiedenen Sachen geholfen, er hat viel in unserem Garten und beim Umbau eines Gartenteiches geholfen, mit unseren Kindern gespielt und auch auf diese aufgepasst. Außerdem hat Javier uns bei einer Haushaltsauflösung geholfen und uns damit auf so vielfältige Weise unterstützt.
Wir durften auch in den Genuss seiner Kochkünste kommen, bei denen er uns die chilenische Küche näherbrachte. Wir sind sehr beeindruckt von seiner offenen, liebenswürdigen und lebensfrohen Art und in welch kurzen Zeit Javier so gut Deutsch gelernt hat. Wir hoffen, dass wir Ihn bestmöglich beim Erlernen der deutschen Sprache helfen konnten.
Uns haben die Wochen mit Javier sehr viel Spaß gemacht und wann immer Javier wieder Lust aufs Landleben bekommt, er soll wissen, dass er bei uns immer und jederzeit herzlich Willkommen ist.

Javier was our first workawayer and we felt very comfortable with him from day one! It was great to have him with us in our family, we laughed a lot and were able to learn a lot about Chile. The children immediately took Javier to their hearts and from then on they always had to know what Javi was doing or where he was.
Javier immediately fit into our everyday family life and enriched it with his charming, humorous and attentive manner. Javier helped us with so many different things, he helped a lot in our garden and with the conversion of a garden pond, played with our children and also took care of them. In addition, Javier helped us with a budget resolution and supported us in so many different ways.
We were also able to enjoy his culinary skills, in which he brought us closer to Chilean cuisine. We are very impressed by his open, amiable and cheerful nature and in what short time Javier learned German so well. We hope that we could help him in the best possible way to learn the German language.
The weeks with Javier were a lot of fun for us and whenever Javier wants to get into the country life again, he should know that he is always welcome at any time.
