Descrição
This is a sustainable tourism project with hill tribes (ethnic minorities) that live in the countryside of northern Thailand. We are training hill tribes how to run their own homestays so they can earn supplemental income. To achieve this, the villagers will need to have basic-English speaking skills so that they can communicate with guests. By having their own social-enterprise and being independent business owners, they are able to generate important supplemental income. Other villagers, (such as trekking guides) also need help with their English so that they can run their own guided treks. Some of the children in the village and neighbouring villages are also very interested to learn English.
The host family is a Kayan Long Neck tribe family, who receive tourists at their homestay. Their home is set in remote and beautiful countryside, the views and locale are simply stunning (just check out the pics!). The family are farmers and grow a variety of crops and rice. The villagers speak their own minority language, Thai as a second language, and so English would be their third language.
This project is located in Thaton/ Mae Ai district, four hours north of Chiang Mai. The nearest town is 'Thaton' by the Mae Kok River.
Please note that we require a minimum of 1 months commitment from volunteers.Tipos de ajuda e oportunidades de aprendizado

They could learn that the villagers have a very basic way of life and not much in material terms, but live simply and sufficiently. They can immerse themselves in hill tribe culture and way of life in the village.

Ajuda
We need volunteers to help the host family and villagers practice their spoken English. The focus is to help them improve their daily conversational English skills, so that they can communitcate with foreigners and tourists.
There is also a small village school which you are welcome to help out at. The placement is very open-ended and you will have a lot of flexibility as to what you want to do and how you want to help. No formal teaching experience is required, just a desire to spend time with the locals and to help them with their communication skills in English.
We also need help with online marketing and promoting the homestay. We need help with creating content for social media (pictures, videos, reels etc.) to tell the stories of the hill tribes, refugees, and how tourism can help these communities. This would be an ideal opportunity for somebody looking to gain work experience in social media or content creation.Idiomas

Acomodação
Accommodation is your own small basic bamboo hut, with a hill tribe family. There is very little electricity (battery-generated and solar panels), and water is heated manually. Meals would be provided by the family.
Algo mais...
The village is located 3-4 hrs drive north of Chiang Mai city, in the stunning countryside of northern Thailand. Surrounded by mountains, valleys and fertile land. You can immerse yourself in hill tribe daily life and culture. There is mobile phone signal in the village, although sometimes it may be weak.
