Being with Sandrine, Yann, Lucie, and Marius was an absolute delight. Not only this trip my inaugural workaway experience, but it also marked my first solo venture outside the United States. Initial concerns about homesickness and loneliness faded away, thanks to the warmth of the family I found myself with.
In the company of these wonderful
… read more people, anticipate leaving with a better grasp of French and also with a sense of having a home away from home. I feel like I have gained a second family and I am incredibly grateful. I can't emphasize enough how much I recommend staying in this sweet little town with beautiful historic buildings and understanding people. Marius will always bring spirit to any occasion. Athough sometimes he can be hard to work ( he is after all a 7-year-old boy so expect plenty of energy and sass) the whole family is incredibly patient and understanding, ans always ready to meet you halfway.
A month and a half later, as I bid farewell to Montmorrilon, I carried with me not just a satisfied belly full of handmade chocolates and delightful French meals but also a letter from Marius and a heart brimming with gratitude. Nous avons apprécié les 2 mois d'été passés avec Joao. C'est un garçon gentil, très cultivé qui aime parler de son pays et apprécie de passer du temps avec les enfants. … read more very clever and lively boy who knows how to take you on amazing adventures. It was a joy to share moments with him: simply laughing together, playing chess, talking about Brazil, painting, drawing, playing football, jumping on the trampoline, building with Lego, engaging in epic sword fights, exploring La Petite Garenne, making a movie. It was super fun, and I treasure the beautiful memories we created together. Overall, the summer was pretty intense: meeting lots of people, enjoying music concerts, going to "apérosages", canoeing down La Gartempe, tree climbing, laser games… and, of course, I can't forget to mention the delicious chocolates and macarons. I spent two months in Sandrine's family and it was a wonderful experience; her is a welcoming, kind and warm family. The area where they live is surrounded by countryside and animals, perfect for nature lovers. Marius is a lively and active child who loves to play especially in the open air, you certainly will never get bored.

I spent Easter there and it was like feeling at home; Sandrine and Yan are two fantastic people, super helpful and caring, I totally felt like part of the family, even the older sister Lucie is a delightful girl, very kind and very sweet, and I loved spending time with her and her friends. I did lots of activities, horse riding, painting, walking with Marius, playing cards and many others. I completely fell in love with the French life, I had the opportunity to meet local people I can say that everyone is easy going and sociable.

Eventhough I only stayed for 2 weeks I learned a lot from them and left their house inspired! I felt immersed in the French culture and they were also curious about Germany so we had lots of interesting conversations about our countries but also many other topics. … read more beautiful surroundings and then spend the afternoons with Marius. Marius is an energetic, creative child, sometimes with strong opinions but very sweet and fun to spend time with. Playing Star Wars in the garden was a favorite. It was nice being able to speak a bit of French beforehand and I definitely had the opportunity to learn a lot during the month. Also, the family cat, Selma, is probably the cutest and friendliest cat I’ve ever met. Nous avons peu parlé anglais car son français était excellent, ce qui nous a permis de beaucoup échanger sur son pays et différents sujets. Nous avons été très heureux de passer ces 2 mois avec Ben. Marius l'a adoré et nous avons eu de très bons échanges avec lui.
Toujours de bonne humeur, il proposait régulièrement son aide et prenait des initiatives. Nous l'aurions bien gardé un peu plus longtemps mais d'autres projets l'appelaient ailleurs...

They are a very kind, creative and generous family who are well-connected in the community.
They even invited me to stay with them over the Christmas holidays.

The work hours are very reasonable and I never felt too tired or burnt out.
Overall, it was awesome to experience the “French family lifestyle” in the Poitou region.
It is best if you can stay at least a month or two in order to get to know Maruis and the routine of the family.
I highly recommend this workaway!
