Description
Hi! We are Anna-Marie, George and Viva our daughter. We would like to welcome you to our
beautiful place called Assoreiro! We are a family who loves nature, plays music, writes poetry and makes art. We love
to teach - we have done about 25 permaculture courses across Europe and Asia.
Around three years ago we came here and we have come a long way since then. Our talented team of
builders and (previous) volunteers have helped us with this a lot. We are looking forward to having
more people on our extensive land to make this an even better place and to teach more people
about permaculture and living off-grid.
The life here is mostly outdoors. We have different tents you can use for accommodation, including a 24m2 mess tent, and a room in an old taipa house. We can provide mattresses and pillows. It is good to bring your own
sleeping bag, but we can always discuss the accommodation. Caravan parking is also possible. We
provide an outdoor shower (covered from all sides and above) that can have both hot and cold
water, depending how you like it! We make use of compost toilets and we can offer vegetarian food
for you in the volunteer kitchen - during our full crew working week (Tues-Fri) delicious gourmet lunches are served!
We would like volunteers to work five hours a day, five days in the week, or 6
hours, 4 days a week. On weekends
there will be some little common responsibilities but mostly you can enjoy your days off
relaxing in nature or discovering the beaches and towns around. It can be useful if you have your
driver's license but if not we can provide bikes (depending on availability), or you can ask us to come with you of course.
We are looking for all sorts of talented people. You can help the builders and learn about carpentry, masonry and natural building, upgrade or show off your cooking skills to cook a healthy and nutritious meal for the builders (and
other volunteers if around), clean, garden, babysit, composting, take photos of everything happening here, fly a drone, help with designs, write texts and
funny signage for the land and/or help with our social media. We are planting trees (seasonal), building
with mainly natural components, managing water, chickens and cats - all of which you can assist with if you would like to expand your knowledge and skills.
Our place has good road access, outstanding natural beauty, private forests you can get lost in
and so much more. It is developing into quite a site. We would love for you to have a fun time here,
loving what you do, utilising your skills and ultimately we would like your work here to feed your soul.

The farm is stunningly beautiful - you may benefit from seeing traditional natural rebuilds in process, gardening, homesteading, off-grid living, composting, animal husbandry etc etc. Expand your horizons, see the world with new eyes.
Aide
If you want to come help a seedling permaculture project this is it. We need to design and build all of it! Want to build? work with clay? Have carpentry skills? Want to plant all sorts of gardens? Whatever it is - send us your skill set and we'll see if there's a fit.

Hébergement
Camping accommodation only at present. We can provide tents and bedding. We also welcome those who wish to bring their own caravan. But please check in with us - every month things will change.
Volunteers will cook for themselves. What is not grown on site will be picked up from our local organic suppliers and supermarkets

We're about 15-20min from Zambujeira do Mar, a stunning bit of coastline (good for surf too). 1/2 an hour inland is the Santa Clara dam, also a beautiful spot. There's unlimited hiking - We're on the Rota Vicentina trail. A lot of opportunities to play music if you bring an instrument. Lots of homesteading in the area, vibrant local community. Easy to get to nearby towns if needed, or beach for a sunset.

You know you're on to a winner when on arrival a workawayer wants to swing like Tarzan through thick Alentejo brush armed with a strimmer.
Had a lot of fun with this 'psychotherapist in training' - he really pulled hard when we had a deadline.
He consistently showed up and put the work in and had quite a good eye for landscaping work.
