    Hello!

I’m Markus, welcome to my workaway profile :-)

Here is an overview of what I am looking for and what you are getting in return :-)
I normally reply in a couple of hours (2-3 days max)

A very cute dog, as well as a very shy cat live here with us :-D

I prefer that workawayers stay as long as possible, ideally minimum 2 months. If you have special skills (see following list) and you can stay only for a couple of weeks, you are also welcome. Of course with all possible safety measures, a good balance between work and recovery breaks, as well as very good tools :)

If you have other special skills, like a great positive attitude or a kind heart or anything else, let me know - Everyone is allowed to find their unique role here to have the most beautiful impact on this place. :-)

✩ Currently, I’d be especially happy to welcome:

➤ some strong guys who can help me build a stone wall with heavy rocks (so that lizards have a nice place to hide)

➤ people who have a passion for creating & building with wood

    Important values ⚟

❤ We aim to practice a healthy lifestyle - involving healthy food, physical, emotional, mental health - and want to thrive together. We aim to live in a nice balance of self sufficiency through growing quite a few fruits, veggies & salads, and local farmer support.

❤ Treating the house & property as if it were your own is very important to me. We want to keep it clean and tidy so everyone feels comfortable in their temporary home! This means returning items to their place, cleaning up after yourself, looking after the community areas (kitchen, living room, yoga room, bathrooms, hallways) and addressing tasks without needing reminders.

We are taking care of this home together and everyone is equally responsible for keeping the common spaces clean and beautiful. :-)

❤ You are the life of this house - make it count, because whatever role you take on here, know that it is important.

❤ First and foremost, we aim to live as community. If you do not like to be around people most of the time, this is probably not the place for you. If you are looking for meaningful connections (with others & yourself), you will find them here, as well as have time for yourself when you need it, of course. :-)

    ☆☆☆ Key qualities:

✚ A very nice and clean house, every room has a clay wall heating system where you get to decide which temperature you want to have in your room

✚ Connecting with other like-minded workawayers - there usually are between 4-7 people here who share similar values

✚ Nice bedrooms with cotton sheets

✚ Organic, high-quality food (plenty of vegetables, fruits, etc.)

✚ Also lots of protein-rich foods to choose from like legumes, beans, chickpeas, lentils, tofu, milk, cottage cheese and sometimes eggs (but no meat)

✚ A well-stocked fridge and a big breakfast selection (oatmeal with a wide selection of toppings, like seeds & fruit, walnuts from my tree, self-made apple/plum jams from my trees, home-made sour-dough bread, peanut butter, chocolate spread ..)

✚ A big kitchen with excellent equipment, like a fire-clay brickstone oven and a gas-stove, as well as clean mountain-tap-water for you to drink

✚ Awesome tools and safety equipment, gloves, masks and ear protection

✚ Knowledge on the topics described above

    ✚ Practical hands-on experience

✚ An excellent and curated selection of stuff to do around the area can be found on my personal website with pictures, bus time tables and descriptions, hikes, via ferratas, walks, dancing, bouldering, rock-hill climbing

✚ Fitness room with barbell, rogue weights, pullup bar, kettle bells etc, as well as an acro-yoga mat

✚ structured day - currently 7:30 yoga, 8:00 shared breakfast, 8:15 daily meeting, 8:30 start, 13:30 lunch, weekends are free - for example for hiking / waterfalls / lake / garden tour / bonfire in the garden with “Stockbrot" (bread on a stick).. I’ll gladly give suggestions, the groups mostly organize themselves, sometimes I join if my works allows :-)

Workawayers 2025 (to keep everybody in the loop)

    =========================================

    01.10 - 28.11 Come (France)

    24.10 - 28.11 Laurie (France)

    03.11 - 28.11 Sandra Germany

    04.11 - 19.11 Lewis UK

✔ Please try to come at the beginning and leave at the end of the month, if possible.

🏋 There are physically demanding jobs to be done, it does help a lot if you are fit & workout regularly.

    ⇨⇨⇨ Prerequisites

If you apply for this workaway, this is what is important to me:

✔ you have (or can organize) health insurance that covers in Austria

✔ you have a valid VISA (people outside the Schengen-zone need one to come to Austria)

✔ you are perfectly fine with cleaning your personal space and the kitchen (when you are using it) in your free time

✔ you value cleanliness and tidiness

✔ you are in a good physical & mental condition, and have the stamina to spend about 5 hours outdoors doing a mix of easy and more challenging tasks.

Please ONLY apply if you fulfill the prerequisites! ✔✔✔

    ⇨⇨⇨ Heath insurance

This is super important! Even though safety is of utmost importance to me, an accident can happen at any time. It's important that - no matter how unlikely - you have health coverage in case you need to go to a hospital because of a sickness or injury. For this reason I only accept workawayers who have >>>> health insurance coverage in Austria<<<<. If you don't have one, check out the workaway offers (world nomads / genki). When you write me a message please let me know if your health insurance has coverage in Austria.

✖✖✖ Sorry, but absolutely NO SMOKING OR ALCOHOL on the whole property. For a lot of people, this is one of the reasons they come here. Also no smoking outside on the street, I smell this immediately when you come back and it is not pleasant for me. Thank you for respecting this! ✖✖✖

    More details on the project

    ✺✺✺✺✺✺✺✺✺✺✺✺✺✺✺✺✺

I'm Markus and I live in paradise :-) - the tiny mountain village (couple of hundred people) of Dafins, Vorarlberg Austria, where I run a permaculture farm (Permakultur Hof Dafins) that is still only about 10 min from the valley. I live completely organic, and also everything in and around the house (pond, small forest, huge garden, river, spring...) is held in an environmentally friendly, sustainable and organic way (permaculture). There are around 30 fruit trees, 30 berry bushes, 3 walnut trees, 2 hazelnut trees, 2 chestnut trees on the property. In the garden I have green figs, peaches, amarillos, all kinds of berries, peas, mini-kiwis, physalis, apricots, apples, tomatoes, salads, spinach, arugula, herbs and much more.

🐝 Lizards, different birds, butterflies, bees, many small bugs (ladybug) and friendly insects (earwig - it eats the lice on the trees) live here. Every tree has its own earwig housing :-) I'm also about to build housings for green lacewings (they eat the aphids of my trees). There is special butterfly area where always dozens of butterflies are active (I planted plants especially for butterflies there).

My philosophy is not to become self-sufficient, but to buy the organic produce that I need from a small, family-owned, local organic food store to support the farmers, who then support the animals and soil in their area. Also, I can never be as efficient as a farmer specialised on a certain type of vegetable. It makes more sense to me to buy carrots from a farmer who has perfected this (carrots need very loose soil - almost like sand, which I don't have here). I mainly grow fruits in my garden that I can’t buy ripe (with some exceptions).

I have an advanced tool-set, a small tractor, and high quality garden equipment so that working is fun and efficient :-) Last year I installed water pipes & a pump in most areas of the garden. This year I'm planning to install water pipes for a bird bath and a hedgehog fountain. There are a lot of voles, moles, deer, badgers and foxes visiting (filmed with my camera) and eating the broccoli and berries from my garden ;-) Sometimes I get hedgehogs from a local hedgehog sanctuary to release them into the wild here. You would then have to feed the hedgehogs. We also have 3 ducks here to take care of.

I do terra preta composting with vegetable coal, have a vermicompost of worms, and do as much recycling as possible. I also chop and store my own wood for the stove in the house and I plan to generate power with solar panels on the roof.

✺ What am I trying to accomplish here? ✺

First of all, this is a huge property and a huge house, which would be way too big for me to handle and live alone in all by myself. I was thinking for quite some time what to do with it. I had various options available. But then I heard about workaway, so I immediately thought that this is it. I can do some good here by making my dream come true of building a paradise in nature, for nature, with the help of other like-minded people, as well as spread the word about sustainability, how to treat plants, insects, animals and our earth with respect. Explore the secrets of how plants interact with our soil and how the recycling economy actually works hands-on - because 500 years ago, nobody was fertilizing our lands with mineral fertilizers, or poisoning our soil with chemical pesticides, fungicides, herbicides, insecticides, heavy metals and other poisons. Why do we think it is necessary today?

Actually I know it is not, and I want to show you and teach you so that this knowledge spreads to as many people as possible.

With plants, it’s like with humans. The industry makes us addicted to substances so that we keep buying them. The same principle is with plants, the more our plants get "addicted" to water soluble mineral fertilizers (mostly as salts), the less need there is for them to interact and grow microbacteria and mycorrhiza, bacteria which feed the roots of the plants with nutrients. If the plant then doesn't need them, it won't supply them with what those organisms need most: glucose (carbon/carbohydrates); so the symbiosis between the plant and the living organisms in the soil degrades, the soil quality degrades, less carbon goes into the soil, the "life" in the soil starts to "die", meaning you need more and more mineral fertilizer. Since the organisms in the soil get less and less, and they also protect the plants against diseases, you need more chemicals to kill off diseases (funghi, pests, etc).

If you want a healthy plant, you need healthy soil without fertilizer. Only this promotes growth of living organisms in the soil which can then supply the plant with the necessary nutrients. These also don’t wash out nutrients like mineral fertilizers do, and don’t pollute our ground water! In fact, if you make a drip test yourself, water coming out of "living" soil comes out clear, whereas water out of "dead" soil comes out all brown.

♲ I also want to show you how to really live a Zero-Waste Philosophy, because there was no real waste (microplastics, hard to break down chemicals, PFAS, etc) either 200 years ago. When you throw something away, here you will need to think first if your garbage can be reused, or recycled and then separate it into the correct recycle bins (plastic, paper, metal, glass, etc). Hopefully, if you come to this paradise and learn how to treat various plant diseases naturally, make super-healthy, microbacteria-enriched terra preta-compost and so much more, you will share your knowledge with others and spread the word :-)

🎓 Some of the things you can learn here:

    • building a dead wood hedge (google "dead hedge") • organic & permaculture farming • organic hot rot composting • recycling economy • worm vermicomposting • terra preta composting • chemical-free, organic fertilization • creating plant-based slurry (stinging nettle, field horsetail, comfrey, garlic) & how to use it to strengthen the plants (then they can fend off diseases and parasites more easily) • healing plants & observing them fgetting well again after sickness or lice, fungus etc. • growing shiitake mushrooms on logs • cutting grass with a scythe • zero waste approaches • growing various sprouts like fenugreek, alfalfa, sunflower etc • making jam out of garden fruits • using a pressure cooker to make delicious food, fast & easy • eating healthy • making sourdough-bread, from grinding the grains, to keeping the starter alive to the finished bread • living a healthy life by taking care of mind, body & soul

The longer you stay, the more you will learn and the more I can show you. If you are staying for a shorter period, there is only so much I can show you. I would estimate that 2-3 months is a good time to get a good overview of most things going on here, and 4-6 months to deepen the knowledge so that it becomes second nature to you. Not everybody will be able to do everything, depending on weather, season and harvest - obviously, in autumn and winter the tasks will be very different than in spring/summer.

We try to produce as little waste as possible (zero waste goal wherever possible and reasonable).

We make our own laundry detergent and dishwasher powder, for which we use soapflakes, sodium bicarbonate (natron), sodium carbonate (soda), and citric acid. Some other ones I still buy (for when the self-made ones are not so effective) from local organic manufacturers. If you are into zero-waste, I am open for more suggestions, and you can use your time here for experimenting, if you want :-)

There is a huge bookshelf with hundreds of books, a lot of them have to do with all kinds of composting, sprouting, growing fruits & vegetables that taste better, herbs, cooking, etc. Quite a few are in German, but there are also English ones.

    ✿✿✿ More about me:

I speak fluent english, german and a bit spanish, I am certified CMAS rescue diver, was part of a life-guard organization for 5 years but I don't actively practice it anymore since I moved from the lake to the mountains :)

🕺 I really love to go salsa dancing, rock-hill climbing and fixed rope routes (via ferrata) in the summer when there is no snow on the mountain tops. You always can tag along if you like. I also do acro-yoga (we have a large mat in the house), tango argentino and CrossFit sometimes. I am really close with my parents, you will most likely get to know them sooner or later, for example when they invite us for lunch :-)

🌞 About 4-5 times a week I do Yoga in the mornings at around 7:30, where you are welcome to join. I setup the laptop on the floor and follow an instructor-led program. >>>>>>>(((Yoga helps a lot of people bring attention back into their own body. I wish more people would focus more on their own senses, on the present moment, feeling their feelings, and focussing on their body, than spending so much time with distractions, which steers our attentions away from us. Very important: Sometimes, when you go into a yoga pose, you might want to go deeper, but sometimes backing off a bit is what you need. Yoga is not a competition, it's about learning about your body. You should not feel pain in yoga, so please back off a bit when you feel that the pain comes. Learn about your body's limits and learn to respect them!! Every person is unique and in a unique shape. Please don't compete and compare yourself with others in Yoga.)))) is this important for the workaway profile? can we cut/shorten a bit?

I am a very open and spiritual person and I welcome questions of all sorts. I like to practice Yoga, meditate, sit in front of fires, take long walks in nature, go swimming in waterfalls, and explore via ferrata trails - and I encourge you to join in for your personal growth.

Being in an environment of nature and spiritual practice can teach you a lot about how to deal with your emotions, thoughts, behaviors and challenges that come from living and being together with others. Expect to get to know more about yourself, others and human beings in general while spending time in a community, making new connections and friendships that you will cherish and take with you when you leave :-)

Kindness, loving care, respect, awareness, and meditation in action are important to me.

You will be part of the "Dafins workaway onsite" whatsapp group, so you can communicate and share pictures with the other guests, and after you leave -if you wish- you will be part of the "Dafins workaway longterm progress" whatsapp group, so that you can stay in touch with everybody who has ever been here and see the progress of what you started and in order to still feel connected if you like (all workawayers have left a mark here in one or the other way - like the bee housings with custom made drawings, the trees they planted, the stuff they built, the energetic imprint they left on our hearts…).

🗺 Things to do in the area:
There are generally a lot of great things to do around this area; some examples I have listed below. Depending on my work stituation, if I am able to make some time, I can show you some nearby very beautiful waterfalls or awesome mountain hikes on fixed rope routes.

I will send you a pdf file with all the links to everything via whatsapp, apparently workaway does not display them, just google (maps) the names in the meantime, if you’re interested :-)

    - Swimming & chilling in a beautiful nearby lake (I go there frequently and you can join) "Baggerloch”
    - Visit various beautiful waterfalls around the area, for example "Frutz Wasserfall", "Rotes Tor Wasserfall", or the marvellous waterfall very nearby called “Gabor Wasserfall"
    - Visit the Rappenloch Gorge "Rappenlochschlucht Dornbirn" / Go Hiking up Karren Peak "Karren cable car"
    - Various hikes (public transportation); recommended hiking App: outdooractive (search for the region of Vorarlberg)
    - Nature show experience museum (go there by train) - "Inatura"
    - Cablecar "Pfaenderbahn" to the top of a mountain with a beautiful view of lake constace (go there by train)
    - Summer activies in Bregenzerwald (rockhill climbing, ..) (you need a car)
    - Rockhill climbing indoors (there are lots of outdoor rockhill climbing places as well) (go there by train) "K1 Dornbirn"

    - Visit old town of Feldkirch (james bond scenes)
    - Old castle museum in Feldkirch
    - Walk around the magical Seealpsee 2:15 (you need a car)
    - if you don't mind a hike 3:15 - you hike up the mountain and will see a house built into the mountain - very cool!! and go down the mountain with a cable car or hike up and down 6:30 (pictures of the house built into the mountain here)
    - Walk around the Lünersee (one of the largest natural mountain lakes in the Eastern Alps) (you need a car)
    - "Klettersteig Pinut" - Really cool climbing Route (check out the pictures) - but check if it's open before going - you need a car

For the summer season I am looking for people to make garden beds around my fruit trees, finish building the wooden hedge (branches mainly), weeding in the garden, help with turning a new compost pile, shredding branches, cleaning and maintenance in the house, taking care of newly planted trees, closing a trench, painting the peach tree green houses, removing wild blackberries and other unwanted invasive plants which are taking over parts of my forest

💪 A general list of the things I greatly appreciate help with:
    - making a wooden dead-hedge for insects, hedgehogs, lizards, etc. (simply piling up branches in the hedge, or sometimes carrying heavier logs around together with me)
    - making marmelade, collecting berries, peaches, figs
    - planting seeds for growing vegetables
    - weeding (a lot during summer)
    - chipping wood branches
    - making simple garden beds to plant peas/lettuce etc
    - making a hedgehog and a bird fountain
    - cleaning, laundry and other household chores
    - help with a trail path around the property
    - preparing soil
    - planting special types of plants so that insects, wild bees & butterflies have pollen and nectar every month of the year from Feb-Dec
    - digging small holes to plant trees
    - watering, mulching, taking care of the fruit trees
    - spraying the trees and raspberries with natural preservatives
    - making and handling of the hot rot compost & worm compost (feeding the worms)
    - feeding birds, ducks and hedgehogs
    - cleaning the water pump for the small pond
    - exchanging the water in the duck pond
    - exchanging the straw in the duck house
    - painting and mounting bird housings
    - creative DIY projects
    - like building bee and lacewing housings, also weasel housings (natural predator for root voles) etc
    - keeping the stuff in the house and shed organized
    - making videos for my guidelines document (mainly operational stuff), so that workawayers always have a reference on how to operate the washing machine, oven, rice cooker, etc etc
    - participating in the workaway video challenge
    - making a poor grassland for special wild flowers to attract wild bees
    - making a sandarium so that wild bees have a nesting place
    - engraving signs for labeling trees and plants
    - making firewood, making fires
    - creative cooking
    - covering the pond with a net so leaves don't fall into it

I don't mind if somebody prefers rough, more strenuous tasks like carrying logs, moving compost, sand or soil, digging holes for trees, creating a stone wall etc or lighter tasks, like piling up small sticks on the hedge, planting seeds and plants in the garden or weeding… as long as there is a good climate, mutual understanding and respect for each other. There are tasks for everyone :-)

There might be some days where I ask you to help a bit longer - for example, if the weather forecast says that it is about to rain, and the wood or hay that is out in the open sun needs to be under the roof in time before the rains begins :-)
In times of heavy rainfall we tend to tasks inside the house, like cleaning, vacuuming, meal prepping, baking, or making a fire 🔥 in the winter.

🗝 Examples of qualities I am looking for in workawayers:
➤ When using things from my kitchen or tools for DIY, you put them back in a clean state
➤ After cooking and eating, you clean the kitchen and don't just leave your dishes in the sink
➤ taking care of the shared bathroom & toilet (you’ll also take turns in bathroom duty service)
➤ taking good care of everything in general
➤ You know how to cook for yourself and are happy to do so together with & for others
➤ You are able to use your common sense & act independently, e.g. when there are bags of groceries to be carried into the house, paper/plastic/organic waste to be taken out, cleaning & laundry to be done, etc
➤ You are respectful of the space and needs of others and you treat other people like you want to be treated yourself :-)

Living here is similar to living in a shared flat/house - I and all other workawayers have their own & shared responsibilities, so we can all live here in peace and harmony with each other :-) We have a rotating schedule for daily breakfast-, lunch- & kitchen-service, as well as a weekly bathroom duty, so that these responsibilities are split fairly. We take care of each other and this house.

🌸 I have come to appreciate workawayers who have a passion for making a home look nice - you are welcome to do this here :-) I'm always open to change so that the house feels more comfortable and welcoming. My goal is that all visitors get connected with the place, with each other, with themselves and that everybody has a great experience :-) It should also be a place where you can feel at home, be present, be in flow, spend time with yourself (eg during a hike or sitting by waterfall) and reflect on your life, explore what you really want and what is really important to you in life.

☮️ We try to communicate to each other openly what went well, what didn't go as planned, what we liked and disliked - and if we find an area in need of improvement, we try to adjust so that the experience is as good as possible for both of us. Only if we communicate our thoughts, feelings and needs openly, we can understand each other better through empathy.

🕊 A good book I stronly recommend (I have this also in the library) in this regard is NVC - "Nonviolent communication" from Marshall Rosenberg or in German GFK - "Gewaltfreie Kommunikation". NVC is a communication tool with the goal of first creating empathy in the conversation. The idea is that once there is empathy between the parties in the conversation, it will be much easier to talk about a solution that satisfies all parties' fundamental needs. It is about gathering facts through observing without evaluating, genuinely and concretely expressing feelings and needs, and formulating effective and empathetic requests.

I have to work a lot from my home office and unfortunately I can’t go outside as much as I would like, that's why I am grateful for help in and around the house. I will gladly share my knowledge and experience regarding nature, sustainability, cooking, gardening, sprouting, composting, yoga+acroyoga, salsa dancing, meditation, spirituality, life experience, humbleness, food preservation, meal prepping, craftsman skills, etc. When you leave this place I hope you will pass on this knowledge to others in the world :)

Regarding the schedule, we do a short information exchange in the morning after breakfast or during the day. I'll let you know what needs to be done and we also do a short feedback round from time to time.

🏠 This place is big - there are 6 rooms and each has either a double bed or two single beds. The in-house rooms all have windows, as well as curtains, and have been renovated and now have clay walls with copper heat pipes. They are all warm and cosy. There is also a furnished “room" accessible by a wooden ladder in the loft area of the fitness room. Additionally, there is a tiny apartment outside the house with its own shower/toilet and a radiator.

There is a nice bathroom with a bath tub & shower, shampoo & hair dryer, reseved for workawayers living inside the house.

You’ll be provided with towels and fresh sheets.

We all share the kitchen and washing machine, you are free to use them.

Highspeed (250Mbit down/ 100Mbit up) Internet with WIFI access installed everywhere around the house.

Due to the natural white clay-walls with built in copper pipes, I can heat the house in the winter and cool it in the summer, keeping it nice and cosy all year round. The rooms are very nice and clean, and it is important to me that they stay this way. There is an open fire place in the living room, which is super cosy in the winter. Feeling the warmth of the fire on your skin, watching the flames do their thing and hearing the crackling sounds is kind of meditative :-)

There is a heat pump which produces warm and cold water. Additionally, we still heat with wood when it gets very cold to relieve the heat pump a bit, and there are also some solar panels on the roof to produce energy when the sun is shining. So, everything is as ecological as possible.

🍅 I provide uncooked staple organic-only food like rice, millet, potatoes, pasta, beans, oats, fruits & vegetables, eggs, sourdough bread, butter, jam, canned tomatoes, etc.

I don't pay for sweets, meat, fish, chips, chocolate, (I want to promote a healthy lifestyle) but I can get it for you if you want, or you can join me when going to the organic food store and buy it yourself, or you go to the nearby shop yourself. However, if you would like to make a typical austrian (recipies are available) or other desert or cake or bread for the whole group in your free time, I am happy to pay for the ingredients.
If anything runs out, you put it on the shopping list and I will get it.

I currently am on a special diet (because of my stomach issues), so I cook some rice/millet/vegetables/tofu for myself in a small rice cooker everyday. Most of the time, we eat together at the same time. If I have already eaten (because of my eating schedule), I try to be there while you eat to talk about the day etc and for the company :)

🍲 Learn how to eat healthy here - how to cook millet, buckwheat, barley, rice, potatoes in a super delicious & easy way, in a rice cooker. I have a special recipe of an azuki bean brownie, where you will not be able to tell the difference to a real brownie ;-)
Learn about edible flowers, plants and leafs from the garden and integrate them into your meals. Watch birds and woodpeckers from the kitchen table while you eat breakfast/lunch.
Taste about 12 different kinds of berries (some of them probably you have never heard of ;-) directly from the garden (depending on the season). Eat self grown potatoes and fresh self-made sprouts in the winter and fresh garden vegetables in the summer.

🍽 The kitchen is equipped with lots of kitchenware (vitamix mixer, grinder, machine to make grain flakes, sprouting systems, dehydrator to make dried fruits, gas stove, normal stove, wood stove, ceramic oven, deep fryer), energized water filter.

The fitness room has a pull-up bar, rings, a long climbing rope, kettlebells, a rogue bar+rogue bumper plates.
There are a couple of board and card games in the Yoga Room to play with.

In the front garden, there are very comfortable deck chairs inviting you to lie down and observe all the butterflies/insects/birds/etc. There is also a place outside to make a bonfire together.

🐱🐶 I grew up with animals, so dogs & cats are welcome. If you want to come alone - great! If you come as a couple - perfect! If you want to come as a couple with a cat or dog, awesome! :-) If your dog/cat looses a lot of hair, you might however have to clean more often than usual :-)

🌝💤 We have quiet hours from 22:00-07:30, so everybody can rest and recharge peacefully.

There is a bus going to the valley regurarly, or it is about a 15-20 min walk to the busstop in the valley. If you miss the bus or underestimated the time it takes to come back home, and it's getting dark, and you are afraid, of course I will - if I am available- come and pick you up.

📩 When you write me a message through the workaway platform and it seems like a possible fit, I will reply with my whatsapp phone number, so you can initiate a quick whatsapp (or Signal) videocall with me in order to get to know each other briefly and check out the vibes :-). I will then inform you of my decision and if we are good to go, I will send you a copy of my "Workaway Dafins Information, Guidelines and House Rules.pdf" document (mostly common-sense stuff I have learned from experiences as a workaway host) for you to go through and check if this is ok for you or not. If I don't send you this document because of time constraints, please remind me. Also you will get a 20min video from me with a tour around the house, rooms, bathroom, fitness room, the garden, and surroundings.

✿✿✿ If we have an agreement, here are some recommendations to prepare for your wonderful experience here:

    • Make sure you have a valid Visa and health insurance coverage in Austria, if you don’t - please don’t come
    • Make sure you bring shoes and clothes where you don’t regret when they get really dirty and muddy
    • Warm clothes: it can get quite cold during the nights (5-10 degrees in autumn / -5 to +5 in the winter)
    • Swimwear: if you want to go swimming in the nearby lake or waterfalls, perhaps shoes that are ok to get wet
    • Good hiking shoes, mountain clothes, and a backpack if you want to go hiking in the mountains
    • perhaps a light sleeping bag and earplugs if you want to stay overnight in a mountain hut (people snore)
    • Install the "outdooractive" app beforehand, get to know it, and explore at possible routes in Dafins and Vorarlberg Austria
    • Yoga mat if you like to join me in yoga sessions in the morning
    • Helmet and via ferrata set (fixed rope route set) if you are into these kinds of hikes - I have a limited amount of used kits here for your usage
    • Please read the "Workaway Dafins Information, Guidelines and House Rules.pdf" document i sent you 1-2 days before arrival to refresh your memory - I will ask you to sign that you have read the document once you arrived, if you did not get a chance there is a copy here for you to read
    • There is a link to my website which includes hiking and things to do list in the PDF document i sent you, check it out, there are some real gems there, as well as bus time tables and info about transportation :-)
    • When arriving use the manual network provider selection option on your phone to choose an Austrian mobile phone provider like "T-Mobile Austria" (best reception) or "A1" when you get here in order to not get charged high roaming costs because your phone might automatically switch to a swiss network provider (Dafins is quite close to the swiss border) by chance. Also, you might consider getting an e-sim for your travels.
    • Nearest airport is Zurich

When you leave: please clean and tidy your room and bathroom perfectly like you found it when you arrived - so it is ready for the next guest. :-)

If you’ve read through all of this up until this point, to confirm that you’ve taken in all of the information given here, please type the keyword “Ohana” at the beginning of your message when you reach out to me. :-)
