Description
Volunteer at a Spanish School, Eco-Lodge, Organic Farm & Nature Reserve in San Rafael, Colombia!
Hola! Thanks for checking out our project and community.
At our project, we combine education organic agriculture, eco-tourism, conservation, and create spaces cultural exchange.
Our project includes a Spanish school, eco-lodge, organic farm, farm-to-table restaurant, and a 14-hectare nature reserve in San Rafael, Antioquia—just three hours from Medellín, and one hour from Guatape. We are lucky to have the river El Macanal running through the middle of our property with several swimming spots on accesible from our nature reserve.
We're currently looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help with our ongoing projects. We welcome both general volunteers and people with specialized skills that can contribute to our mission.
Current Volunteer Opportunities:
General help (gardening, trail maintenance, landscaping, recycling projects, and collecting materials for biofilters)
TEFL-certified English teachers
Video editors
Graphic designers
Yoga teachers
Wildlife photographers (to document our biodiversity)
Biologists and ecologists (to help record local flora and fauna)
Musicians (to perform and collaborate with our community)

What We Offer
In exchange for 25 hours of volunteering per week, you'll receive:
Accommodation in one of our shared volunteer dormitories
Access to our shared volunteer kitchen
Weekly groceries so volunteers can prepare their own meals
One weekly family meal shared with our volunteers, students, and community
The opportunity to live in a beautiful nature reserve while becoming part of an international community
We can host up to four volunteers in this program at one time.
What You'll Do
Tasks vary depending on your experience and the needs of the project. Every volunteer also helps bring groceries and supplies from the road up to the property twice each week.
General volunteer tasks may include:
Organic farming and gardening
Reforestation projects
Trail maintenance within the nature reserve
Collecting stones for biofilters
Recycling and environmental projects
General maintenance and improvement projects around the property

Lo que ofrecemos

Travellers on the farm have the opportunity to spend time around el macanal river in San Rafael, Antioquia--getting to know a small community of Colombians and immigrants living in the Antioquian mountains. We are trying new farming techniques, new types of construction and in general trying to learn new things as often as possible.

As many of our volunteer oportunities will change with the season as well as with the skills a volunteer brings to the table, it is a bit difficult to describe the daily tasks of all volunteers. That said, we expect 5 hours of good help five days a week! -

Our farm is located on the river el Macanal in San Rafael, Antioquia. We are quite isolated, but surrounded by beautiful nature. With ten beautuiful swimming spots, and a waterfall on the property, the surrounding nature should keep you occupied in your freetime. There is also an eco lodge on the property with a bar, live music, and restaurant for some weekend entertainment. The town of San Rafael is about an hour walk away, or a ten minute walk and 15 minute tuc tuc drive.

Typically are internet is stable. We have a local internet provider for the entrance of the hotel and starlink in the area of the restaurante. We are in a rural area with power outages and storms, so every few weeks we are without internet for at least a few hours while maintenance is being done or while there are big storms.

Tully helped us for two weeks in our recycling program. We are just starting with this program, but he was a great help always taking care of the tasks and finding other things to do in his free time. Happy to recommend him!

Stayed at the organic farm for 2 weeks and had an amazing exchanging cultures with the local workers and fellow Workawayers. The work was steady and well directed, with plenty of varied tasks throughout the weeks. The food and drinks were fantastic, as well as the natural scenery. Overall a perfect experience for my first Workaway!

Wir hatten eine wundervolle Zeit. Die Besitzer sind sehr freundlich und flexibel. wir haben morgens 3 Stunden gearbeitet und danach hat man freie Zeit um sich zu entspannen, zum River zu gehen etc. Das Essen war auch sehr lecker. The eco lodge is in a beautiful location right next to a river and in the mountains. After work you can go swimming and hiking. Hosting Sindy was a really nice experience. She helped in the gardens and gave yoga classes for guests and volunteers here at our eco-lodge. Everyone said they really enjoyed the classes with her. Amazing experience and lovely Workaway. It was my first Workaway experience and I'd definitely do it again. The work was fun and meaningful and the food was sooo good. Knowing a little Spanish beforehand would be ideal but otherwise this is a good place to learn.

Had the most magical two weeks while working for Jesse and his incredible team. The work can be quite physical at times but is very rewarding and it varies between planting, weeding, making beds for vegetables, making compost and many more fun activities. My stay at hosts was really nice! Every day we worked 3 hours in the morning on the farm where we either would weed, plant, dig etc. The rest of the day we could just relax, take a swim in the river or go to the cute village San Rafael! The 3 meals are good and made with the vegetables of the garden :). Could recommend this place!!

I volunteered at Jesses place for 3 weeks and had a great time. The place is really incredible surrounded by mountains with a river and lush forests.
There’s always cool projects in the works from organic gardening to woodworking.
