Volunteer at a Spanish School and Permaculture Farm in San Rafael, Antioquia!
Hola! Thanks for checking out our project and community. Here we always have quite some projects going on.We run a permaculture farm, eco-lodge, farm-to-table restaurante, language school, and nature reserve in San Rafael, Antioquia.
We're just three hours from Medellín, located on a 15-hectare jungle reserve with the river El Macanal running through the middle of our property.
We are now accepting volunteers for general projects on the farm (mainly weeding, planting, collecting stones for bio-filters, working on paths, and helping with recycling initiatives) as well as volunteers with specific skills that align with our project’s needs. Whether you'd like to help with general tasks or have experience in one of the following areas, we’d love to hear from you!
Here are the positions we are looking for at the moment:
General help (mainly in gardens and collecting materials for biofilters)
TEFL-certified English teachers
Photographers (for documenting our project)
Biologists (to record local flora and fauna)
Babysitters (to help take care of some of our staffs children while they are working)
If you have other skills that you think could benefit our project, don’t hesitate to reach out!
What We Offer
In exchange for 25 hours of work per week, you'll receive:
7 nights of accommodation in a shared dorm
3 meals per day from our farm-to-table restaurant
What You’ll Do:
- Capturing and editing photos/videos of our project and nature reserve (for those that enjoy photography!)
- Teaching English to our staff and local community (must be bilingual for this position)
- Documenting and identifying species in our nature reserve ( for biologist or ecologist)
In exchange for 10 hours of work per week, you'll receive:
-7 nights of accommodation in a shared dorm
-Access to a shared kitchen in our volunteer cabin
We can accept up to 2 volunteers in this role at a time.
What You’ll Do
-Help around organic farm
-Help on Reforestation projects
-Help on paths through the nature reserve
-Collect pebbles for biofiltros
We may also ask for help with recycling initiatives or other projects!

Aquí siempre tenemos varios proyectos en marcha. Administramos una finca de permacultura, un eco-lodge, un restaurante “de la finca a la mesa”, una escuela de idiomas y una reserva natural en San Rafael, Antioquia.
Estamos ubicados a solo tres horas de Medellín, en una reserva selvática de 15 hectáreas, atravesada por el río El Macanal.
Actualmente estamos recibiendo voluntarios
Buscamos personas para apoyarnos en tareas generales de la finca (principalmente deshierbe, siembra, recolección de piedras para biofiltros, trabajo en senderos y apoyo en iniciativas de reciclaje), así como voluntarios con habilidades específicas que se alineen con las necesidades de nuestro proyecto.
Tanto si quieres ayudar con labores generales como si tienes experiencia en alguna de las siguientes áreas, ¡nos encantaría conocerte!
Posiciones que estamos buscando actualmente:
Ayuda general (principalmente en los jardines y recolección de materiales para biofiltros)
Profesores de inglés con certificación TEFL
Fotógrafos (para documentar nuestro proyecto)
Biólogos (para registrar la flora y fauna local)
Niñeras o cuidadores (para apoyar con los hijos de algunos miembros del equipo mientras trabajan)

Lo que ofrecemos:
Opción 1 – Intercambio de 25 horas semanales

Posibles tareas:

Opción 2 – Intercambio de 10 horas semanales
A cambio de 10 horas de trabajo a la semana, recibirás:

🍳 Acceso a cocina compartida en la cabaña de voluntarios
Podemos recibir hasta 2 voluntarios en esta modalidad al mismo tiempo.
Posibles tareas:
Apoyar en la finca orgánica
Participar en proyectos de reforestación
Apoyar en el mantenimiento de senderos dentro de la reserva natural
Recolectar piedras pequeñas para los biofiltros
También podríamos pedir apoyo en proyectos de reciclaje u otras actividades según las necesidades del momento.

Travellers on the farm have the opportunity to spend time around el macanal river in San Rafael, Antioquia--getting to know a small community of Colombians and immigrants living in the Antioquian mountains. We are trying new farming techniques, new types of construction and in general trying to learn new things as often as possible.

--Looking for musicians, artists, photographers and nice people to come and spend some time on our farm in-between San Rafael and San Carlos Antioquia!
--Looking for photographers to help with the publicity and documentation for our project!
As many of our volunteer oportunities will change with the season as well as with the skills a volunteer brings to the table, it is a bit difficult to describe the daily tasks of all volunteers. That said, we expect 5 hours of good help five days a week!

On the farm we have several dormitories, and private rooms depending on our availability and your preference!

Our farm is located on the river el Macanal in San Rafael, Antioquia. We are quite isolated, but surrounded by beautiful nature. With ten beautuiful swimming spots, and a waterfall on the property, the surrounding nature should keep you occupied in your freetime. There is also an eco lodge on the property with a bar, live music, and restaurant for some weekend entertainment. The town of San Rafael is about an hour walk away, or a ten minute walk and 15 minute tuc tuc drive.

Typically are internet is stable. We have a local internet provider for the entrance of the hotel and starlink in the area of the restaurante. We are in a rural area with power outages and storms, so every few weeks we are without internet for at least a few hours while maintenance is being done or while there are big storms.

Die Besitzer sind sehr freundlich und flexibel. wir haben morgens 3 Stunden gearbeitet und danach hat man freie Zeit um sich zu entspannen, zum River zu gehen etc. Das Essen war auch sehr lecker. The eco lodge is in a beautiful location right next to a river and in the mountains. After work you can go swimming and hiking. I volunteered here for a week. The location is beautiful- lots of nearby hikes and swimming spots, or you can just relax in a hammock. The staff are friendly and the work was varied.

Had the most magical two weeks while working for Jesse and his incredible team. The work can be quite physical at times but is very rewarding and it varies between planting, weeding, making beds for vegetables, making compost and many more fun activities. My stay at hosts was really nice! Every day we worked 3 hours in the morning on the farm where we either would weed, plant, dig etc. The rest of the day we could just relax, take a swim in the river or go to the cute village San Rafael! The 3 meals are good and made with the vegetables of the garden :). Could recommend this place!!

There’s always cool projects in the works from organic gardening to woodworking.

Lea was really a wonderful person to have around our farm-- hardworking, kind, and thoughtful. Everyone enjoyed her company, from the other volunteers to our staff here at the hotel.
