I really enjoyed my experience in Åland with Ted, Maria, and their kids. It felt like I was at a retreat. The island is very peaceful. The main town is a 20 minute walk away. There are also multiple beaches that you can walk or bike to. They let me borrow a bike and the car to explore other parts of Åland. Most of the tasks are chores around the

The children are 8 and 11 so they mostly take care of themselves but there will be many times where they want someone to play with, which was always fun for me. I really enjoyed my time. The chores were easy tasks and never took too long so you have enough time to explore the island, city or just relax. … read more they were done so you could organise your own time very well. Thinks like that made it possible to go to Stockholm for one weekend for example. :) If needed, they are open to letting you use a bike or the car if it isn't used by them.
They really let you feel like part of the family and are very open-minded, if you have problems or questions they are very eager to help you. The kids are lovely as well, they can take care of themself and it was always fun to play with them.
You have your own space in the apartment with your own kitchen and bathroom, so if you need time alone, it is totally possible but you are still always welcome in the house and just spend time with the family.

It was our first experience on workaway, we enjoyed every minute. We were stay for 6 weeks. We didn’t feel alone ourself for a minute. We get help with everything!

Thanks Maria and Ted! I had a very nice autumn in Åland visiting you. They are a wonderful family: well communicating parents and funny children. I learned Swedish from everybody which was a good bonus :) The apartment was nice because I had privacy and own space when I wanted.

We want to thank Maria and Ted a lot for having us for the last 2 months. This was our first workaway experience and we are really really happy that we stayed with them!
We felt like a part of their family and experienced their lifestyle as well as the lifestyle in mariehamn. It‘s much slower than in germany and we really enjoyed that!

… read more clear that it took some days to get to know the kids and the daily life, but we got used to it fast. In general we had a lot of time to do sports (for example in the home gym ;) ), go to nice cafés, watch beautiful sunsets and drive around the island. We were allowed to use the cars which was a great benefit! For us it was also nice to prepare the dinner everyday, because we both love to cook and we could try out nice recipes.
We had our own space in the appartment, with our own kitchen and bathroom, which was a big benefit. So we had a lot of privacy.
Staying in Mariehamn was also great, because there is such a beautiful landscape and nature, but you are also in a City, so you can go a bit shopping, and if you need something, you don‘t need to drive so far.
When we had problems or questions we could always ask Maria or Ted and they helped us. We also did some nice trips and activities together with them, for example at the harvest festival weekend, playing discgolf, watching an ice hockey game and a musical and having dinner in a brewery. There was a lot more. Thank you so so much for that!
We are so happy that we could help you and we‘re looking forward to visit you again! We had a really great time in beautiful Mariehamn!

We had Anika Stay with us for 2 months and she was very helpful around the house and we had a good experience. She picked up the kids from day care and school with the car etc. Also to my wife was furloghed due to corona we managed well and Anika had e little bit less to do than planned but I think she had a great stay and we look forward to go to

Really don’t know know how to start this feedback but it was a great experience having Jana stay with us! The first day I picked her up she almost got on the ferry back and then the customs guys didn’t wanna let her true due to COVID-19 but she got true and that was great for all of us!

She is a fast learner and I never ever heard her complain expect when our younger kid felt left out and got mad.
But that was a language barrier that was gone after 3 weeks and Yana was patient and tried helping her learn English and now she understands a lot.
If you wanna have a happy energy field person for a visit say yes if Jana wants to come I am sure you won’t regret it if you do!
I might be a good talker but writing isn’t my thing Jana!

It is so flexible to do any help with this family. For me, mostly helping for babysitting, help to prepare lunch or dinner, dishes watching whatever housework. I am enjoying the time to do all the help.
I love the kids so much!! They have a kind heart to others, even kids will be naughty sometimes, but they always make your heart-melting!! The older son speaks fluent English so don’t need to worry about it hard to communicate.
When the first week I went to this family, I was addicted to phone and all the social media. Then Ted teaches me meditation, telling me there are many more things I can do besides using social media. He also shares his life experience of how to solve social media addiction !! After one month, I can be the self-control of using social media and read more books! Ted is an open book. He knew a lot of things from the garden stuff, weather to the news about Hong Kong and China. I am sure you can talk about your life experience with him!! Ted can talk a lot 🤣
Maria is a warm, kind, caring and good listener. She is always learning new things and taking care of me for all the things!!! Thank you for taking me to the Zumba class!! I did enjoy the time there!
Holiday:
I did a lot of things that I never do in my life. Ted and Maria take me to pick blueberries, go on a boat ride, and hike in nature. I never forget all these memories!!!
I am going to miss this family much. I hope I can come back someday and stay with this amazing family. Welcome to Hong Kong and it will be my honour to be your family’s tour guide!
