Description
Hello!
I am Pagna, founder of the school, an NGO located in the countryside nearby Siem Reap (25km). I believe that education is the key to breaking the poverty cycle giving children access to a better future. My dream is to expand the organization to reach out to more children in the villages by providing vocabulary training, developing the community, and giving extra lessons. Getting funds is a complicated task, but we try to help our students with what we have. That's why we need your help!
I have been teaching here for many years, but I am in need of volunteers to help this project grow. Everyone is welcome to join and support the school and my project, regardless of any previous work experience. We have classrooms where most of our lessons take place at 8:00 am in the morning until 10:30 am, in the afternoon from 1.00 pm until 4.00 pm, and in the evening from 6.00 pm until 8.00 pm.
I accept Workawayers who wish to stay at least two weeks, however, if you feel uncomfortable, you can leave at any time. Obviously, we would love to have you as long as possible and longer stays are preferred.
We can also arrange an option for you or for your friends to come as a guest, even for just 1 night.
At the end of your volunteer experience, a certificate is provided as proof of involvement with the school and can be used as a reference for any teaching jobs you may want to apply for in the future. The school is the ideal place as a starting point for anyone holding a TEFL certificate as it offers the opportunity to practice teaching skills and classroom management, although we do welcome anyone to join - whether you have any prior experience/teaching certificate or not.
In addition to the unique opportunity to give disadvantaged kids better chance for the future, you will have the chance to experience life in a modest village in the Countryside of Cambodia. In your free time, you can explore the nature surrounding the Villages: Countless hectares of rice fields, many coconut trees, and some water buffaloes, away from the noise of the city. I can also take you to the best spot for sunset or sunrise as well as bring you on a boat tour in the floating Village on your days off.
Thank you for considering us, we are looking forward to welcoming you to our community!Types d'aide et opportunités d'apprendre

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
As a volunteer, travelers will learn about Cambodia culture and customs, as well as have the opportunity to help children learn. Often, there are many students but not enough teachers. Volunteers can increase their overall teaching skills and have the perspective from being involved in teaching in an area where there is poverty. In addition, volunteers can learn how to fix and build homes, and know that families in need are being helped.Projets impliquant des enfants

•What is the accommodation like?
One of the highlights for our volunteers is the opportunity to experience a homestay in a rural village. Facilities at our two locations are very basic but authentic and the host families are very hospitable. In Lvea Village you will have your own hut on stilts. All huts are set up with beds, mattresses, pillows, mosquito nets, and fans. Toilets and bathing areas are shared and have no running water, so you will need to use rainwater to bathe as the locals do, by scooping water on yourself. This can take a bit of getting used to but is actually refreshing, especially on really hot days.
Concerning food, as we are a free school, it's complicated for us to give free meals. So, we ask for 5$ a day in exchange of 3 homemade meals a day (breakfast, lunch, dinner). You will eat Cambodian food made of local products. Aside, we provide bottled water, coffee and tea. It is also possible to request vegetarian food.
We have 3 huts 6 rooms and one additional room, which means you will be able to meet other volunteers during your stay!Autres infos...
•Will I have time for extra activities?
On weekends and when volunteer tasks have been completed for the day, you will have free time for other activities. This might include visiting the local temples, relaxing in a hammock with a good book, cycling around the local area, or going into Siem Reap town. You may also have the opportunity to attend a traditional community ceremony such as a wedding or Buddhist celebration.
•How do I get there and around?
Our two schools and home stays are approximately 26km (30-50 minutes tuk-tuk ride) from Siem Reap town. We can arrange a tuk-tuk for you, or a car, it’s up to you. The cost for a tuk-tuk is $15-$20 one way.
While in the village, you are welcome to use one of the volunteer bicycles to travel between schools and around the local area.Informations complémentaires
