I am a trained chef, so I have very good skills in the kitchen and also in cleaning duties, but i am always looking foward to learn new things, so teach me and I will probably be able to help you.

It is not possible for a host to block a workaway’s feedback, so Sebastian’s assertion that this has been done in the past is untrue.… read more #redacted# We assume that Sebastian is also aware of this, hence his use of “4 stars” in order to have a highly negative and unjustified stream of criticism published. In addressing the content, whilst completely understanding that people’s opinions can differ, the facts cannot change:
• There are 4 toilets available to the volunteers;
• There are 2 kitchens – recognising that the kitchen was, indeed, small and given the good weather here in Spain, an outside kitchen was built with hob, sink and drinking water on tap to improve conditions for the volunteers, plus an additional fridge freezer, kettle, etc. in a room off the shared bedroom.
• There was a coffee machine which had to be discarded as previous volunteers had failed to maintain it. On request, 2 coffee presses were provided from our personal belongings, one of which was quickly broken;
• Between the 2 kitchens, more than enough pans and other kitchen utensils are available for the volunteers to use and items are replaced if we are advised they are broken. For example, the volunteers’ washing machine was replaced within 24 hours of it being reported broken;
• There is adequate cupboard space and 3 large fridge/freezers available to the volunteers;
• There was (and is) a clear “chain of command” and a cleaning rota for volunteers to follow – Sebastian simply chose not to acknowledge it. The cleaning rota for the shared spaces allowed for a maximum of 40 minutes per week for Sebastian. The conditions for volunteers clearly state that the personal space must be thoroughly cleaned upon departure. In Sebastian’s case the accommodation was an en-suite room shared with another volunteer who arrived before him. The room was thoroughly cleaned and inspected before that volunteer arrived. If Sebastian was prepared to move into a room that the other volunteer had, apparently, allowed to become messy, mouldy and dirty rather than raise this with us, that was his choice. The fact remains that the room, then only occupied by him, was not properly cleaned on his departure. He left clothes in the room which had faeces (dog) on them, the lamp was broken, rubbish in the drawers and paraphernalia suggesting that Sebastian had ignored the no drugs and alcohol rule, which he had signed up to;
• In addition, around 140€ of damage was caused to equipment due to Sebastian’s failure to follow instructions to keep items, such as hoses, muzzles and leads out of the reach of the dogs.
It seems highly unlikely that anyone told Sebastian that “this is not a bed and breakfast” given the amount of personal money spent on improving conditions for volunteers, the regular meetings (with lunch provided) held to discuss any issues and the ongoing efforts to keep shared spaces clean and tidy – indeed, we have seen a marked improvement in this is in the past few days, following recent departures. Similarly, Sebastian’s contention that “many” of his fellow volunteers were also dis-satisfied is not supported by the fact that, from the many volunteers we have now had, there has only been one other negative review – from someone close to Sebastian.
The statement that Sebastian was removed from the chat group to deny him the opportunity to defend himself suggests a degree of paranoia as everyone is removed from the chat group once they leave or we would end up communicating with an increasing number of people who no longer volunteer here. He was indeed blocked on a personal number due to the unpleasant nature of his messages.
Whilst expressing a love for the dogs, perhaps Sebastian should have considered the impact this inaccurate, negative feedback could have on those dogs if future volunteers believed him.
