Hey! This is Addy and Mckenna! We are two friends from California, USA! We are both currently University students in Utah and are trying to make our crazy travel dreams come true this summer! We work hard, play hard, and to state the obvious, really love travel;)

A little about Addy:

Hey hey! I'm studying public health at University! Since I was little I loved the idea of travel. That love has continued to grow as I've gotten older. When picking a career I wanted to do something that would allow me to help people and also experience different parts of the world.
The primary goal of public health is to protect and promote community health. My main interest is studying contagious diseases and I hope to one day work in international development and global health.
One of my favorite things about travel is getting to appreciate and learn about new cultures as well as meeting new people from all backgrounds. I consider doing this an important part of my future career as well as my personal development. From the little travel I've done, I know it gave me new perspectives and ideas about how I live and who I am so I'm so excited to get to travel more and learn as much as I can!
Some of my other interests include painting, hockey, racquetball, my puppy Mickey, and just hanging out with family and friends!
I value and try to emulate kindness, hard work, dependability, and joy. I promise to be the best workawayer I can be and I'm excited for our adventures this summer!

A little about McKenna:

At university I am studying languages and geography! I hope to one day teach English as a second language and do more humanitarian work for disaster relief. I work hard to make time for fun, from long trips to other countries to quick weekend road trips! I speak English, Spanish, and a little French, and love picking up other languages along the way!
I have enjoyed traveling through Europe, Asia, Africa, and North America, and am excited to start my new journey as a WorkAwayer. I really value relationships with others, and have a strong desire to get to know other people and their unique perspectives and ways of life. I think we can all grow and become better people by experiencing the world from the eyes of others!
When I'm not studying or traveling, I am probably playing the guitar, piano, or saxophone, playing sports, rollerblading, surfing, or wandering in nature. I love anything outdoors and love experiencing the beauty of this world!

We've worked a variety of jobs from farming/gardening, hotel reception, photography, caring for the elderly, babysitting, teaching and each spent over a year as full time volunteers teaching English and working with different non-profits.

We are very adaptable, easy-going, and willing to work in a variety of different environments! We are good at working alongside others and enjoy meeting new people!

Our time in Leros was amazing and so memorable. This was our first workaway experience and we couldn't have asked for a better one!! Christy and Michael made us feel so welcome! Christy was more than fair with the work she gave us! Some of our daily tasks included weeding, painting, adding sealing to concrete walls, window cleaning, painting their… read more boat, and raking. Christy was so thoughtful with the work. She was very flexible with our hours and made sure we got enough water and rest if we were in the sun.

Our accommodation was more than we hoped for. We stayed in the guest house Christy and Michael built. We LOVED the little house and our goat neighbors! The house has everything you need. The biggest part that was unfinished was a couple of the main windows were not yet installed, which we actually enjoyed! The weather was so nice while we were there and with the beautiful nature around the home having the window open added to the experience!

We really loved running errands with Christy and getting to talk with her! She had so many good tips and tricks for all sorts of things and was so generous in giving us food, oils she had made, and lots of other things! One of our favorite parts of our trip was learning how to cook some new dishes from Christy and how to make an authentic Greek salad, which has now become a staple in our diets!! We also loved Christy's and Michaels's house, it is seriously so beautiful and unique. We got to have tea time and dinner there and loved our time and chats with them!

During our stay, we fell in love with Leros and the people there. The house is perfectly situated at the center of everything - with lovely hikes and walks to the beach and towns. Christy is full of knowledge about the island's history and geography and was so kind to introduce us to some of her friends. We also got to do our own exploring and would walk to the different towns on the island almost every day. We also loved walking to the beach to relax and swim. There are also cute churches around the island that are fun to go to. The whole island is beautiful and the people are too!

At the end of our trip, we went snorkeling with Christy in her favorite spot on the island and it was incredible!! We had never done snorkeling like that before and now can't wait to do it again! Christy was so wonderful and taught us how and showed us where to swim!

We cannot recommend staying here enough, Christy and Michael are both outstanding people and the island is so special!! We hope to come back sometime!!

I want to start out by saying you cannot go wrong by having Addy and McKenna come help you with ANYTHING! They are a great team, friends from childhood, always in good spirits and happy.
I have had a number of people here on this island in Greece helping me through Workaway or HelpX, for over 10 years. A few stand out, as do Addy and McKenna,… read more people with whom I am still in touch. We worked together so well, and most of the time I simply explained the work to be done, generally all new to the ladies and voila', It got done ! I did not have to supervise them nor stand over them.
They never shied away from any job, they were precise, hardworking and diligent. What more can you ask, oh and strong too! We kept a loose schedule and it worked perfectly, they did more than their share of work.
I had house painting to do, inside and out, lots of window cleaning (very big windows), weeding, (hard work on gravel paths) a floor that I was treating with linseed oil -working on hands and knees! We even put the anti fouling on the bottom of my sailing boat, yecky job. They were open to any work.
Addy and Mckenna were happy to share their life experiences and we had some good talks, they were exceptional listeners, not only, they were polite, sincere women with morals and good sense, I would say, destined to be upstanding members of their community and people with an incredibly helping spirit. They walked everywhere, miles! They ended up discovering more about our island than we know!
The ladies lifted my spirits at a time when I needed it, they touched my heart. They are young, I am old-ish (!) I could be their grandmother any yet, we had a great time sharing; I taught them the basics of true Italian cooking and helped them with preparing a few of my recipes. They were like sponges soaking up the information! I taught them to snorkel and we had a great time, even though at first it was a little daunting, they ended up after an hour totally comfortable with it along our rocky shore. They discovered how beautiful seeing underwater is. Shows their adventursome spirit.
Addy and Mckenna have done other international travel and were at ease here, I could tell that they felt "at home".
They gave me a surprise for my birthday, so thoughtful, they paid close attention to something that I had said and surprised me - shows how much they paid attention, something that would have passed most people by.
I was very sad to see them go and hope that they will come again next year.
