Hi! My name is Matthijs, I’m 34 years old and originally from the Netherlands. After completing my degree in Facility Management, I worked for several years as a Facility Management Consultant and later as a Contract Manager.

In November 2022, I decided to quit my job to follow one of my lifelong dreams: to travel the world, explore new cultures, and spend more time doing what I love. Over the course of 1 year and 8 months, I visited amazing countries such as Vietnam, Indonesia, Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia, Borneo, Australia, and New Zealand. One of the absolute highlights of my journey was my one-year working holiday in New Zealand, where I truly fell in love with nature, the mountains, hiking, camping, van life, and skiing.

Now that I’m back in the Netherlands, I really miss this adventurous lifestyle. That’s why I’m looking for new opportunities, especially in mountain regions or places close to nature, where I can continue living and working in a way that inspires me.

During my time in New Zealand, I gained experience in various types of work, including basic gardening, a full season as a cherry picker, and working in a restaurant as a waiter. I also worked as a waiter during my university studies in the Netherlands. I enjoy practical, hands-on tasks and I’m happy to help with gardening, general maintenance, hospitality, and similar work. I’m reliable, friendly, a quick learner, and always bring a positive attitude.

In the Netherlands, I also volunteer as a tour guide for older people during day trips. I really enjoy helping others and making their experiences enjoyable and memorable.

I’m very eager to learn, especially about nature, rural life, and living in the mountains, because I’m considering moving abroad at some point to live closer to nature. I’m open to helping with a variety of tasks and really enjoy learning from others and experiencing different ways of life.

So far, I’ve visited around 32 countries around the world and I really enjoy discovering new places and learning from different cultures. I’m excited to continue exploring and growing through new experiences.

I started my career in the Netherlands working as a Facility Advisor and later as a Contract Manager. In these roles, I developed strong organizational and problem-solving skills, learned to work well in teams, and became experienced in planning, communication, and adapting to different situations.

Alongside my studies, I worked for many years in restaurants, which gave me extensive experience in hospitality, guest interaction, and creating a welcoming atmosphere. During my travels, I continued to work in hospitality, including restaurant and guest service roles.

I also gained experience in physically demanding outdoor jobs such as cherry picking, where I carried heavy loads for long hours, and setting up and taking down marquees and events. Additionally, I worked in cleaning on a campsite and spent a winter season in a ski town combining restaurant work with an active outdoor lifestyle.

I am also an active volunteer and trip leader for day outings with elderly people in the Netherlands, which taught me to combine organization, social interaction, and care for others.

I am physically fit, doing CrossFit, Hyrox, and running regularly, and I like staying active. I am flexible, social, and eager to learn new skills wherever I go.
