Hey I'm Charlotte, 19 and from Belgium! If I would describe myself, I would say that I am a curious person, which explains why I have decided to become a Workawayer. I am pretty much adventurous, always down to try new things and have new experiences. My friends would also say that I'm a happy-sunshine person, and that it's one of my best qualities. I enjoy in my free time reading, hiking, hanging out with friends, swimming, ...
For the past months, I have been thinking about volunteering in Asia (especially South-East Asia). My goal would be to immerse myself and learn from the culture there. I have never been there before, so going to local places would be perfect for what I aim for. South America has also been one of my regions of interest for years now. In my current studies, a field study trip is offered to us in one year, and for that reason I have been learning Spanish for a year. However, since I have not traveled a lot before, other regions would also highly interest me. I am just an open, curious, and spontaneous person.
Participating in a Workaway would be perfect for me to have a positive impact while traveling, for example by working in a hostel, in a school, in a local farm.
What has led me to creating a Workaway account rather than booking a solo trip to Bangkok, is that I don't simply want to travel and to just be a tourist. I want to discover new things, and not to stay aside from the local culture. I never participated in a Workaway, but a friend of mine who did it many times recommended it to me when I talked to her about my wish to travel alone and to have a learning experience. Let's see how it goes!

I went to a high school in Brussels for 14 years and I am now at university in The Netherlands. I study Global Studies in Maastricht, which is an interdisciplinary course that can be described in one sentence: how to fix global-scale complex issues. We touch upon many disciplines, environment, economy, politics, education, migration, and others, so it is very enriching. We also aim to learn from many sources, so far from only academic sources from developed countries. The emphasis on getting the bigger picture has also led me to want to participate in this experience.
I speak fluently French and English, as well as Dutch and Spanish to a relative extent. I would be very happy to teach these languages to other people, or to offer my help to someone.
I also love painting walls and furniture, as it is one of my free time hobbies (if you can call it so). I painted the walls of my room last summer, painted mirrors and boxes blue a few weeks ago. So, I would be more than happy to offer my help in painting or fixing furniture. I am not a fixing furniture freak but I can definitely help. Moving houses many many times has definitely helped.
I am also quite familiar with social media. I don't have any degree in communication, media or anything but I can definitely help with managing social media accounts.
I am very close with my grandma, who I see whenever I go back home. Since I have been a child, I have helped her in the garden numerous times to plant things, clean the swimming pool, and many other things. So, I could offer my skills in this sphere.
I used to work as an interim, so short jobs where I would serve drinks and food, and welcome people. I could also help with that.

One of the hobbies I have is to make bracelets, especially Brazilian bracelets. It is something I really like doing (for years now) when I 'm bored and when I want to relax.
