Hello! I am a 24 y/o traveler from the United States. I have been an avid traveler/outdoors person for many years now, but just getting back into work away after about 5 years!
I am currently in Nepal, searching for work for about a week from June 1st to 7th. I am interested in farm stays, home projects, cooking, exchanging ideas and knowledge, yoga, and tourism.
A bit more about me!
I grew up on an organic family farm in Utah, USA, with a family focused on sustainability. We had sheep, chickens, pigs, turkeys, cats and dogs, as well as big gardens. I have quite a bit of knowledge on animal care and gardening still.
I also grew up with horses, riding, ground work, some training skills, and horse care.
In more recent years I have been working mostly as an adventure guide in the summers in Montana and Alaska; hike guiding, white water rafting, sea kayaking, and canoeing. All of this is done with groups of guests with focus on appreciation of the outdoors, safety, and expectation management.
In winters I have mostly been a photographer at ski mountains, as a professional portrait and action ski photographer. I would love to broaden my experience with photography, as I have been getting more into wildlife and landscape photography, and would love to explore and use my skills for advertisement as well.
Most recently I was working as a Glow worm cave guide in New Zealand, taking guests into a cave full of glow worms, and pulling a boat through the cave.

I am a hard worker, and a fast and excited learner. I like open and honest communication with any of the people around me to make sure we are all understanding one another. I am excited to have new experiences, and meet new people in my travels.

A bit more about my personality and life:)
I have been an artist for many years, I enjoy painting mostly, but also love to do some wood work, drawing, wood burning, resin art, and pretty much anything I can get my hands on! If you have any form of art to share, weather it’s music, or knitting, I’d love to learn.

I have been an active person my whole life, raised by two athlete parents. My experience has been in downhill skiing, competitive cross country skiing, ski touring, mountain biking, canyoning, rock climbing, and, my favorite, hiking and trekking.

More on my travel experience! I have been incredibly lucky to explore much of the world; Ecuador, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Canada, Ireland, Scotland, England, France, Spain, Switzerland, Netherlands, New Zealand, and now Nepal!
I have enjoyed getting to see so much of the world in such unique ways, meeting locals, trekking, and working. I hope to create more memories with everything I do.

  I am gluten free, but I am completely willing to help with meals every night if needed, and to help out with what I can eat since it is a very different diet for some people. I'm not very picky with what I eat, so it wouldn't be too difficult if hosts are

Long story short, the place isn’t very clean, there was plaster falling from the ceiling, there was no real schedule that I saw, I wasn’t needed for the first 2 days, then 3 days, the volunteers were smoking and it was supposed to be non smoking hostel/Workaway, I ended up alone for part of my first shift, I didn’t get any explanation of the work… read more before my first day, I checked in and checked back out the same guests during my first shift because their room was dirty and they left, I was sleeping in a guest room, with guests, as much as the bathroom had been cleaned, it still felt dirty, and while walking out one day, a guest who was leaving told me that she didn’t like most of the workers and that the hostel was dirty. My last straw a was that a guest left having paid for 2 nights and after one night, not even caring about a refund, he just left.
Long story long, there wasn’t a real schedule until I asked, and it was only a group text that told me and the other new volunteer what days we are working. I was told that I wasn’t needed for the first 2 days, and it turned out to be 3 which was inconvenient for me since I came on the day I thought I was supposed to work ready to work, and it turned out I wasn’t needed again, where if I had been told before I could have made plans for the day and gone and done something bigger instead of having to figure it out that day. I was also in a guest room, which Marina explained to me my first day that the volunteer room was full and I would be in a guest room, but only with another worker because there was space to put guests in other rooms at the time. Then there were guests in the room a little unannounced. There may have been some miscommunication with that, since I thought there weren’t going to be any guests, and possibly it was just for the time being. I actually have no problem with sleeping in mixed rooms or with guests, it was only that the profile says otherwise, and I thought that Marina had said so as well.
For the first part of my first shift I was with someone, but I ended up on a shift on my own for 3 hours within which I had to deal with a couple of guests that I checked in, and then they wanted a refund and to leave because their room wasn’t clean, or what they expected, and since I nothing about refund policies had been explained to me, I couldn’t tell them if they would get refunded or not. Most of the volunteers were very kind to me and I liked them, but almost everyone smoked, which they did out on the balcony, but it makes the beautiful view and balcony much less attractive to those that aren’t smokers, and it is supposed to be nonsmoking, which is something I always make sure of before even emailing a Workaway, and is something I am very cautious of on Workaway.
All in all it was not a bad experience for me, just a learning one for me to see what different hostels look like, how they are run, and I can see that the other workers were obviously fine with how it functions and everything. I was able to leave easily with no problems and found another hostel to work at almost immediately.
