Hi there!
We are Teun (38), Bo (36) and our two boys Oliver (4) and Alfie (1). Pre-children, we have lived a very international life, living in different countries across the world, travelling, and of course doing work-away projects! Now that we have our lovely little family, we try to find the balance in giving our boys a stable home but also take them with us exploring new parts of the world. In this spirit, we are considering a 3-month sabbatical in the summer of ’25.
What are we looking for? Ideally a project in which our children can take part, for instance in a school where they can join the classes and experience the different culture first hand by interacting with local children. Oliver has had 4 years of English pre-school, so he’s comfortable speaking and understanding English. Alfie doesn’t speak much yet, but he’s used to English being spoken to him. We are both fluent in English, and Teun also has experiencing teaching the language in India and China.
In terms of accommodation, we’re generally all for no frills, but with the kids we do require some amenities that not every work-away project may be equipped for (a cot for Alfie and some private space for us as a family). Generally speaking we’re open to all suggestions, as long as you keep our situation in mind :)
As for countries, we’re currently thinking Thailand, because it’s warm (we do not like the cold), easy to travel with kids (safe), and has delicious food! We’ve both lived in Asia (Bo in Singapore and Teun in Myanmar) and been to Thailand before, but never for longer than a week or so. Curious to find out more! We’re open to other destinations however that meet these requirements!
Ideally we do 1 work-away project for 4-6 weeks. Please get in touch in case you think this may be a match!
