Okay... um, first of all, I've never been very good at talking about myself. Makes me feel weird, like I'm boasting too much or trying to be the center of attention. You'd think that, as someone born under the Leo zodiac sign, I'd be all over that like a lion on a gazelle.
    Nope. Noooo. No thanks.
You can keep that kind of attention over there, on Chris Pratt, or somebody like that.

Okay. Here are a few basics about me.

I'm a US Navy veteran and a former construction worker/farm kid from Wisconsin, USA.
    I really miss that life.
I HATE living in cities and doing desk jobs.
It's suffocating, and being away from the countryside makes me feel hollow.

I'm looking for a fresh start; need to clear my head and find a better perspective on where life's headed for me.

I'm pretty laid back and easy going; if something sounds like fun, I'm all for trying it.

I love to write, and I'm also a voracious reader.
Whenever I have a chance, I'll go to a library or used book store and spend hours rummaging for something cool and unusual.
Pretty sure I've developed a significantly unhealthy book habit, and possibly even an addiction.

I don't talk even remotely like I write, most of the time. Only when I'm goofing off.

My sense of humor reflects my eclectic (ooh, nice rhythm there) reading habits. Dry, sarcastic, a little "out there," and can also go over like a load of bricks crashing down on an unwary head.
I also have a few prankster tendencies. Thank my dad for that one; he was born on April Fool's and REALLY gets into it.

Um... I swear a lot more than what would be considered "normal." The military, farming, and construction trades aren't exactly know for being "civilized" when it comes to language use, but I will watch my tongue around kids.

I was raised in an Evangelical Fundamentalist home as a kid, and it soured me on the whole "church" thing.
However, I tend more toward the agnostic now.
As long as a person doesn't try to aggressively convert me, what they believe in is their business and it's not my place to judge.

When I was a little kid, my teacher had assigned us one of those Thanksgiving family tree things that American schools love handing out. It made me wonder why my family had last names like 'Scanlan,' 'McQuaid,' 'Wilbur,' 'Spencer,' and 'O'Shaughnessy,' instead of the Scandinavian ones almost everyone else in Wisconsin has.
My grandma told me about Ireland, and I got hooked on the island at the tender age of 9.

I finally visited this past June; went to the Cliffs of Moher and drove around the countryside.
Got lost a few times, but honestly didn't care that much.
It was so much fun, especially that Corkscrew Hill. Or, was it Road?
    I forgot.
All I know is that it's called Corkscrew, and it's beautiful.

Also came to the conclusion that buses were invented by Satan solely to terrorize people in small cars.

Anyway, one week was not even close to long enough to spend exploring.
So, I've booked myself time from January to April.

I don't have any real plan in mind, other than to experience whatever happens.

I want to try workaway to see what Ireland has to offer, and to find friends I wouldn't normally have made by keeping myself stuck over here in America and living on stale dreams.

There are a few things about me that potential hosts should be made aware of, for the sake of full disclosure, so that they can make a fully informed decision on whether or not they want to have me as a guest.

I walk with a slight limp and can't run very well, because my left leg is a little bit shorter than my right, but it doesn't hinder my ability to work.

I have mild PTSD, from my military service (NOT combat related), and there might be times I'll have panic attacks.
However, I'm aware when they're coming on and will just ask for a couple of hours to myself for a while.

I'm also transgender (female to male) and am on hormone therapy.
I know that this might go against a person's beliefs or morals and would rather have them dismiss any future contact from the get-go.

Springing something like that on a person, or having it come out in an awkward situation later, causes unnecessary conflict and I don't want to do that to anyone.

Having done my first Workaway in Sligo, I've learned that a lot of my DIY skills are out of practice, so I unfortunately wound up promising more than I could actually deliver.
Thankfully, my hosts were incredibly understanding and forgiving and I really appreciate that.

  • Algo más...

I like heavier rock, the classic stuff, blues and Johnny Cash. Some Country and popular stuff is okay, but I just naturally gravitate toward some genres over others.
I love to try new foods, and I prefer my veggies straight out of the garden. Canned stuff tastes horrible and metallic.
