ABOUT ME

I am Laia Shamirian a 36-years old food writer born in Barcelona. I studied science plus a master in nutrition and food journalism, fields I keep loving nowadays. I also love cooking new recipes (and sharing the results), learning all about the food traditions from a new place and writing (haven't update it lately but here it is a good summary of how I came to be a writer https://laiashamirian.com/quien-soy/)

At the moment I work writing SEO friendly content about gastronomy for online spanish magazines + leading the communication department of a Sustainable Food Organisation.

In the past I had the chance to travel and volunteer in India for almost a year, a bit of Costa Rica, Nepal, Israel even Spain in pandemics. Here is a summary of those experiences:

WORKAWAY & OTHER EXPERIENCES

Receptionist & welcoming guest + Organising activities and excurions // I took care of hostels in Costa Rica, India, Florence, México and Spain. Great experiences and also moments to reflect on how could I add more of my own experience into making the experience more sustainable.

Gardening & Huertas // I have helped in Pais Valencia in different projects that involved olive picking, gardening, taking care of dogs and for a short time some audio edition between 2020 and 2021.

NGO and Children care // I took care of children in India at Blossom Spring NGO with ages between 3 and 20 years old (oldest one were doing their own thing on school and uni) and in Masnou, Catalonia with a family of climibing lovers. That happened between 2017 - 2019

EXPERIENCES I AM LOOKING FOR AT THE MOMENT

At the moment, I'd love to keep diving into mexican culture since one of my future goals is to move there to study a master on Food Anthropology. My favourite place to do so is Oaxaca since I already spent there a total of 6 months, it gives me the opportunity to keep learning on how to create a more sustainable tourism and also allows me to experience local culture activities like temazcales with Mauri.

A BIT MORE ABOUT ME & ROUTINES

Oh, I do love coffee. I think Italy is responsible for that last one. Since I move to Florence three years ago having a couple of macchiatos per day became the most natural habit ever. Glad it happened.

I love nature but during last year got less sensitive to noise. I like a good balance between solo time to recharge and company time to keep connecting with others.

In the last three years I learnt a lot about digital content, digital marketing and I am proud to say I have been a freelance since then with all the personal growing it has implied.

Besides, I do enjoy talking about astrology, spirituality, and a bit of the old school traveling but only when the other person is interested, I know is not everybodies cup of tea.

On my day to day, I am quite basic to be honest. Some good coffee helps me start my day, a silent place to write for 3 or 4 hours is enough to keep my business going and some more active or social activies during the day + gym routine twice or three times a week keeps me happy.
