Julian and his girlfriend Juliette came as a breath of fresh air to us and our place. Their big smiles and good hugs told me early on that these are warm-hearted and good people. The chemistry between us worked great from the first second.
They both adapted quickly! One must look for a long time for more helpful, strong, kind, caring, easy-going,
… read more nice and adaptable people. No matter what tasks needed to be done, they went into it with great courage and enormous work ethic.
Every morning we were met with big smiles and a good hug. Not only a hug, but a proper and warm hug.
Fantastic good weather during the 2 weeks they were here contributed to outdoor work every day, there is a lot needed to be done here before frost and winter come in few weeks and all work tasks were carried out precisely, carefully and quickly. A lot more were done than expected.
Many of the tasks were hard work! Erling and Julian miraculously managed to move several large stones that we have wanted to move for years. Big cheers especially when the biggest one was placed in the bonfire by the sea.
Julian handled the edger like a professional and lots of tall grass/weeds were removed here and there. Don't know how many wheelbarrow loads of sand he brought from the shore that were used in slightly different places. Raking, painting, sawing, splitting wood and moving several things were all done with happiness and perfect result.
Juliette made our garden so beautiful, brought in the rest of the rhubarb, weeds were removed here and there, raking were done, sawing amounts of wood, splitting wood, the last remaining stones were placed on the slate flat in front of the house, several doors were varnished, windows were painted after some preparation and absolutely everything was done perfectly!
Certain tasks were done separately, also fascinating to see how well they cooperated when working together. For instance when moving this horrible heavy and huge stone bench.
Our shared joy in cooking and eating good food resulted in countless good meals together. The french dishes they served us were delicious! Fascinating that they had read up on several traditional Norwegian dishes that they wanted to taste. Also this cake that we were making I have to mention, where the baking machine suddenly broke down just before the egg whites were to be whipped. Only one thing to do, find an around 100-year-old manual whisk. They took turns whipping and it took 45 minutes….. There was a lot of laughter and the cake tasted excellent.
Last winter, the shower drain froze due to poor insulation. To get to these pipes, masses had to be removed under the cabin, this had to be dug up by hand and the passage was very narrow. Erling, Juliette and Julian took turns at this job, which lasted several days. This is not a job for the claustrophobic, that's for sure! Wearing clothes made of thick rain cloth, they crawled under with fresh courage and came out again with dirt and sand all over them. Still smiling and happy with lots of laughter.
They are very sporty people who practiced yoga, meditated, they took the bus several times to a fitness center, went on countless long walks in the mountains and by the sea and they quickly figured out how to get around by bus.
Also very happy and kind with children gave a great joy when 2 of the grandchildren were visiting and Julian played football with them. They love animals and were so nice with our cats and often cuddled with them.
It is actually a bit difficult to describe in words how nice these weeks were and to describe the wonderful friendship that was built between us. Feels like I can't quite find the word I'm looking for to describe, maybe this word doesn't actually exist.
Dear Juliette and Julian. Thank you so much for everything!
For all the countless good conversations, all the laughter, the fun we had, and also of course , for all the invaluable good help you gave us. It gave us extra energy having you here!
We miss you so much! Looking so much forward to meet you again and you know that you’re always welcome back to us!
