Hello beautiful world, we are Alison, Jog and Beans the cat! We have made the decision to leave our lives in Bristol far behind and spend the next year (at least) on a journey of internal and external exploration. We want to spend this year staying with and learning from others, particularly those people/communities with an ecological focus. We intend to establish our own ecological community when we return so interested in learning what works and what doesn't while contributing positively to the places we stay :) We've been together 15yrs(!) and have spent that time exploring Zen, nature, hiking, swimming in rivers, kayaking and practicing our various circus skills (though we are definitely a bit rusty on that last point!) We love good food, good company, and good music! We are pretty independent, easy going people, able to take care of ourselves and enjoy our alone time as a couple too. We are pretty avid diy-ers and willing to get involved in whatever needs doing. I (Alison) enjoy cooking and baking is definitely my love language, so expect cake!
A bit more about us - Jog is an English teacher by trade, has taught in secondary schools for 8years and has a TEFL qualification. So if honing your English is a goal, he's your guy! Jog is also a very wise man, having studied philosophy and taken this formal study outside the classroom and into daily life with a particular interest in zen meditation. The works of Alan Watts, Ram Dass, Jack Kornfield, Sam Harris, Joko Beck have had a great influence on us both. Alongside being a great teacher with a deep and contemplative nature, Jog is also an extremely handy cat. Together we have converted 2 vans into campers (12v electrics, diesel heater, plumbing etc), replaced decking, tiled our kitchen, and various other diy projects. We also run a little festival with a group of friends (https://instagram.com/bangersandmashtival) and coordinate/do the site build - always the first to arrive and the last to leave! Jog also mixes some pretty sick beats if that's of interest!
Now a little about Alison! I am a civil servant by trade working on environmental policy, though I've had a pretty varied career. I have a masters in environmental law and am a qualified yoga instructor. I currently teach an outdoor Hatha yoga class for my colleagues focussed on connecting to the big picture, nature and themselves. I hope this little practice helps them make better policies and have the courage to speak truth to power, which is such an important part of our role as civil servants. I'm keen to deepen my practice this year and refine my teaching style so if you are interested to learn I would be delighted to share my practice with you! I have a little experience of using workaway many years ago and was very active on couchsurfing for many years. I understand the value, importance and beauty of sharing your time, space and energy with people from all walks of life and I am so excited to have the opportunity to do so again! Like Jog, I'm a pretty handy cat, able to turn my hand to most diy projects/power tools and generally get stuck in wherever needed. My favourite power tool (if it can be called that!) is definitely a digger, which I got to use for the first time last year on the bangers and mashitval site build (we tore down a whole barn by hand!). However, the chainsaw and strimmer come in a close second and third!
Last but not least we have Beans the cat! He is actually a dog in a cat suit and is the best cat you will ever have the pleasure of meeting. Honestly, everyone who meets him falls in love. He is so affectionate and well behaved, living in the van with us and coming on our adventures. We are stupidly in love with this animal, and when you meet him you will understand why!

Jog has taught English in secondary schools (11-18yrs) for 8 years and has a Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) qualification.
Alison is a qualified Hatha yoga teacher and very happy to provide classes! Also a keen baker and cook!
We are both really handy, have converted 2 vans into campers ourselves - electrics, plumbimg, heater, vents etc.
We are avid DIY-ers, have tiled our kitchen, built decking, painted walls. We also help run a little festival (Bangers and Mashtival) as the set-up and clear down crew so experienced in hard graft and getting it done and enjoying the process :)

We have a ton of board games in our van (Lenny) and would be delighted to play with you! We also have a kayak, juggling balls, hula hoop, slack line and poi if you'd like to play/learn!
Alison is also trying her hand at some art while on the road so if you want to experiment with pens and pencils and such then I would love to have someone to mess around with!
