***Welcome to my profile!***
Hi I am Irene, 27 years old and born and raised in Utrecht - The Netherlands. Last April I decided to start a new chapter in life, as I believe we are never too old to change and to explore a different life path! I have sold my house and quit my corporate laptop job to see where life can lead me and where I can add more meaning to my life and those around me.


***My wish for summer 2024***
This summer I would like to focus on responsible eco-travel, get inspired by new people and connect with nature. In July I will go mountain trekking in Switserland and end of September I will hike the 4000m+ mountains in Nepal!! Therefore, I am looking for a great Workaway experience for 4-6 weeks in August/September.

Hiking and camping, dancing (salsa, bachata, latin), travelling, reading books and magazines, going to the movie theater, music and music festivals, meeting new people and exploring new cuisines, cooking, going to the gym and running.
I enjoy an active life style and try to be outdoors as much as possible!

***My travel experience***
I have visited multiple countries across the continents!!
Most of West- and South Europe, Australia, Asia (Bali, Malysia, Sri Lanka, China, Mongolia, Thailand), Africa (Morrocco, South Africa, Uganda), Jordan.

Most special was my 6-month trip to Australia where I combined working and travelling along the east coast. Here was my first 'Work Away'- experience: I worked on a flower farm for 6 weeks, and also 4 weeks on Fraser Island: the biggest sand island in the world. Here I worked for a tourist organisation: housekeeping, welcoming guests, cooking, organizing trips and making sure they have the best trip possible!!

***My professional background***
I have completed a bachelor in Business- and Consumer Studies and a Master in Food Quality Management/ Food Supply Chains at the Agricultural University in Wageningen The Netherlands. I have had multiple roles at FMCG companies like Unilever, Kraft Heinz and Nomad Foods - working in Product Development, Quality and Technical Project Management.

However, I learned I would like to switch my career to a more sustainable path and preferably within a smaller scale organisation. My ambition is to work towards a sustainable future which balances the ultimate joy that food brings us, with the effect it has on our individual health, the planet’s health and social groups involved.

I care for the environment, nature, social relations and try to act responsible to minimize our footprint but maximize our happiness on earth :)
