Most of my adult life I have been working in hospitality such as bars, cafés, restaurants and hostels. Hence I am an experienced waiter, bartender and barista, receptionist, cleaner and cook (cooking is a passion of mine which is well appreciated by my friends and family).
During my studies I have been working as a language teacher. I used to enjoy helping my grandparents with their vegetable garden and fruit trees (especially I enjoyed the harvest) and I took well care of our chicken.
I also have some experience in carpenting and DIY building/repairing. I enjoy creative tasks including arts and I enjoy outdoor activities of all kinds.

Nikolai is a very nice, respectful and easy-going guy. I really enjoyed having him here and I would definitely be happy to host him again.

I stayed at Marco’s place for a bit more than three weeks and truly enjoyed most of the time:
Painting, gardening, feeding the animals, enjoying the company of Marco and the other workawayers, going for walks and the place itself.

I arrived with my dog Milan. Since there were a lot of other animals in the first days we tried to understand the … read more dynamics between them; things seemed to work out.
However, after roughly two weeks - when we were making pizza outside - some food fell to the ground; Milan and Yuma got into a fight. I tried to separate them which was quite a difficult task - Yuma is a big and Maremano dog, easily the double of Milan‘s weight. Marco could have helped, but he continued making pizza. So a friend of Marco helped me, but also struggled to hold Yuma back. I was bleeding, got bitten by Yuma in my leg as well as in my thumb. I brought Milan into the house and desinfected my wounds there.

When Iater on I told Marco that I would need to go to see a doctor and suggested that I could use his fiat Panda, he told me that his car should only be used for emergencies and that I shouldn’t be worried since his dogs are all properly vaccinated.
#redacted# The next day Marco brought his friends to Olbia and in the end gave me a lift.

Of course I thought about leaving after that incident, but I didn’t want to just run off. So a gave it all another chance.

In response to the incident Marco set up the rule that the dogs could no longer enter the house. I wasn’t really happy about the new rule for two reasons:
1. Milan is anxious about separation and calm only when human beings are around him (so when I’d be inside for cooking for instance he would be scratching the front door) and 2. Yuma and him would would not be separated in the end.

Few days after my one-day-visit at the hospital in Olbia (they gave me antibiotics) Milan got attacked by Yuma again. I was inside the house, Marco was away for work that day. I stormed out and again separated them; left with a bite by Yuma in my upper leg - luckily nothing serious this time.

Also I want to mention the neighbours dog, Bianca, Maremano as well, who kept coming to the property, attacking Milan twice - and also attacking the dogs of a couple who came for a day to get tattooed by Marco’s cousin.

I didn’t feel safe there anymore for Milan and me. Decided to leave.

The situation with the dogs has definitely been underestimated - also by me - and I didn’t feel the support from Marco that I would expect from a person hosting me.
I am aware that if I wouldn’t have brought my own dog, all this drama wouldn’t have happened.

My wound at the leg was inflamed in the end, even though Yuma is fully vaccinated. Beneath Milan’s long fur I detected three bleeding wounds that required treatment.

Unfortunately this situation overshadowed my stay at Marco’s place.
Since I consider health, safety and sense of empathy important goods, I put those aspects in the spotlight of this review - despite all the beautiful moments I shared at “casa Goceano” with Marco, his friends and especially with the other workawayers.
