Hi there,

We are Emilio and Nicole, an adventurous and enthusiastic couple taking a gap semester/year before starting our college journey. We really want to explore new cultures, connect with big, loving communities, and contribute our skills and passions wherever we go.

Emilio is outgoing, creative and fun. He can help out with his experience in cooking, childcare, photography, customer service, and teaching math and/or English, he is a fast learner with a positive attitude. He has a couple years of experience being a receptionist and teaching math to middle and high school students. Emilio loves animals, outdoor activities, and technology (including design, troubleshooting, and social media, video-games). He loves learning and socializing.

Nicole, on the other hand, is halfway through her visual arts degree and is taking this opportunity to share and inspire her creative spirit. She has a deep love for animals, plants, and nature, and her kind, attentive, loving nature shines through her interactions. Nicole has a lot of experience and really enjoys working in anything related to visual arts; particularly painting, ceramic work, sewing, photography, and print-making. She is also skilled in painting murals and decorating spaces, her hobbies are knitting and spending time with animals.

We want to enrich ourselves with new cultural experiences but also to share a little piece of who we are with the people we encounter along the way. We are excited to contribute our skills, time and love to meaningful projects, and we are open to a wide range of opportunities.

I don’t even know where to begin, so many things about our stay with Linda and Marcel were incredible. Even if I tried really hard I wouldn’t be able to find something negative to say about this week.

We got there late in the afternoon and were welcomed with a warm dinner and a somewhat simple and very comfortable room, we had chance to rest… read more after a day’s travel.

The next morning we helped around in the garden, mostly weeding and we got to harvest figs and onions which was very interesting!

Linda always made sure we were well-fed making us smoothies or offering us a lot of types of jams she had - all made with things from the garden of course.

The next days took an interesting turn, I had briefly touched over maybe painting a mural for Linda and Marcel and decided to ask them if they were still down. They said that if we wanted to we could look for a wall to paint it and pitch them an idea, if they liked it we would buy the paint and go through with it.

They were very open minded about it which really inspired us to be creative and you could see both our excitement as well as theirs. We then spent all afternoon designing multiple options and pitched it to them the next day. By this point it had become a sort of passion project for Nicole and I.

They settled on a design, made some tweaks and after we had prepped the wall a little trip to the supermarket ensued. We got all we needed and started working on it for the next days. It was very fun and I’m very grateful we got this opportunity, it takes a special couple to just - quoting Linda here - say “yolo” and step out of your comfort zone to let a couple paint a mural on your dining room wall.

When we were unwinding from painting, we’d take warm showers, soak in the beautiful, breathtaking view - the pictures don’t even begin to picture how amazing it looks - and take hikes. There’s a lot to do if you’re into nature and there’s also a nice town nearby with an open air ceramics museum. We would also spend time with the pets. They were all very sweet and I’ll miss them dearly.

Both Linda and Marcel cooked for us, everything we had was very very good. Simple, as said in the listing, but very good . A lot of it is made with homegrown ingredients and I’ve come to learn nothing is as fresh as homegrown. Overall the food left nothing to be desired.

Finally, the hosts, Linda and Marcel who don’t own bicycles even though they are Dutch, really touched out hearts. We kept getting along better and better with everyday’s passing. We shared a lot of stories and specially a lot of laughs. They both have a great sense of humor and a big heart. We felt very cared for, welcomed and grateful.

Hopefully life gives us the opportunity to spend time with them again. We really had an incredible week.

As workawayers at their first experience they were really good and trustable!
I had to ask them to house sit due of a last minute work I had out of town and they were really trustable, begun the work without me in the house and they were super nice, polite and helped me to keep clean the house.
