Hi, we're Tegan and Jacob! We're an easygoing and curious couple who love creativity, storytelling, and meaningful conversations. Some of our favourite things include painting, writing, eating good food and thrifting—there is nothing better than second-hand stores! We also love being surrounded by nature and enjoy learning about different cultures and histories. We're both always eager to lend a hand, whether it’s helping out in your home and garden, getting stuck into a project, or looking after animals. If you’re looking for great meals, Jacob can definitely make that happen - and I will happily sous chef!

New Zealand has been a dream destination for us for so long—its breathtaking landscapes, rich Māori culture, and emphasis on nature all really resonate with us both. Beyond that, we want to experience life from a local perspective. We love the idea of Workaway as a way to not just visit a place but to truly be part of it—to meet people, contribute to meaningful projects, and gain hands-on experience in different ways of living and working. Whether it’s helping out on a farm, learning about permaculture, or just lending a hand with daily tasks, we can’t wait to immerse ourselves in the experience.

We’re new to Workaway, but we love the idea of making travel more meaningful by working alongside local people and contributing to their homes and projects. Que habilidades tienes?

Creative & Practical – We love art, DIY projects, and anything hands-on! Tegan is more than happy to help with painting, decorating, or creative tasks, and Jacob comes from an extremely practical household where if something is broken, you fix it yourself!

Sociable & Organised – Tegan has worked in events and customer-facing roles, so she's used to working with people, adapting to different tasks, and keeping things running smoothly.

Sustainability & Inclusivity – Through Tegan's work and studies, she's researched and written about environmental and social issues, so she's really keen to learn more about sustainable living and local initiatives. Jacob's studies in urban design and planning have also allowed him to learn much about the topics of sustainability and inclusive design.

Cooking & Helping Out – While Jacob is the real cook who finds himself always coming up with all kinds of recipes, both savoury and sweet, Tegan loves being in the kitchen and helping out with meal prep, plus she's always happy to lend a hand with general chores. Jacob also has a small Instagram page where he posts some of his cooking/baking, which you are welcome to have a look at! @chef_gravy

Eager to Learn – Whether it’s gardening, animal care, DIY, or learning new skills, we're always up for trying something new and getting stuck in!

When we’re not out exploring, we love spending our time doing the things that bring us joy—whether that’s being active, getting creative, or simply enjoying a good board game with new friends!

Tegan’s Hobbies & Interests:

I love trying new ways to stay active, whether it’s aerobics, yoga, or dance classes. Reading is another big passion of mine—I can get completely lost in a book for hours! More recently, I’ve been getting into cold water swimming (a bit of an acquired taste, but so refreshing!) and sewing, which I’d love to improve on.

Jacob’s Hobbies & Interests:

Working out and running are things I love to do regularly. I also really enjoy baking, especially making sourdough from scratch—it’s a long process but so worth it! Cooking in general is a huge passion of mine, and I’m always up for learning new techniques or trying out different cuisines. And when it comes to board games, I’m up for anything, you name it, I’ll play it.

What We Love Doing Together:

Some of our favorite things to do as a couple include watching all kinds of films (from indie gems to romcoms), going on long walks, and thrifting for unique finds. We also love painting and drawing together, even if we’re not the best at it! One thing we’re really hoping to learn at some point is pottery, so if anyone is willing to teach us, we’d be so excited to give it a go!

We love the idea of sharing hobbies and learning new skills from the people we meet, so if you’re passionate about something and want to share it with us, we’d be all in!
