We are a family of four dreaming about escaping our daily life with all its responsibilities, commitments and the permanent sense of lack of time. Now the opportunity has come: We quitted our jobs and our children (9 and 12 years old) have finally received permission to be exempt from compulsory schooling for 6 months to make this dream come true.

Many years ago we already did work in charitable/sustainable projects over several month in Peru and Ghana. This experience was so fulfilling and enriching it still influences our lives in a very positive way. Our wish is to enable our kids having such experiences and andventures, which will hopefully enrich there lives too. We want to connect with new cultures and languages, new people and their ways of living.

We are a nature loving family, trying to spend most of our freetime in our garden at the baltic sea or the closer surroundings of Berlin. We try to grow organic vegetables with a minimal use of water, taking into account longer warm periods and other negatve effects of the climate change. Our last project was to create a crater bed (Kraterbeet), which so far seems to work quite well for our climate zone. We are always curios to aquire new skills and share experiences to obtain a more and more sustainable way of living. For this trip we would like to focus on sustainable gardening, like permaculture and foodforest, to implement it in germany.

About us:
We are a family of four, like already mentioned above, living in Berlin/Germany.
There is Jonas our youngest child of 9 years and Marie our daughter of 12 years. They are both visiting the Rudolf-Steiner-School in Berlin-Dahlem, Jonas in 3rd grade and Marie in 6th grade.
There is Jan, 37 years old, engineer for renewable energies. And Freia, 38 years old, working as a physician. We are all very sports-loving and very into music. We all play instruments (Marie: violin, harp and piano. Jonas and Jan: double bass, Jonas and Freia: guitar, Freia: cello and clarinet). We will take some instruments along on our journey, because we couldn't be without playing some music. We all are also part of the circus at school, the children as participants and Jan and Freia as trainer for unicycle. We love to travel with our van into nature, to climb, hike, surf, to just live with the rhythm of nature. We also love to play boardgames and playing outdoor games together with other families.

We are very interested in learning and improving our spanish. Freia already speaks quite well and Jan a little bit. Our children are also interested in learning english, Freia and Jan already speak fluently, but they are also very interested in improving our english and to gain vocabulary. Marie learns french at school since this year. We are open to teach some german to anyone who wants.

Que habilidades tienes?

We have experience in gardening and are at the moment trying to find ways to grow vegetables without watering, respectively with less watering. In terms of this plan we created a crater bed this year and started to work with mulching. The soil in Berlin is mainly out of sand, so we have a big issue with dryness, which makes it really hard to grow any vegetables......but we keep going and trying. So we love to do any work in the garden or nature, and we are also ready to do hard work and to get dirty. We both like to work with wood, building shelfs or repairing things.
Jan is also very skillfull in all types of handicraft, he for example did all the interior finish of our campervan.
Jan is engineer for renewable energies and also a trained electrician. The last 7 years he worked in a startup developing energy systems based on photovoltaics and hydrogen for the self-sufficient energy supply of single-family homes. Before that he was employed as a technical consultant for sustainable energy supply systems in developing countries.
Freia loves her work as a medical doctor and is very interested in Manual medicine and Applied Kinesiology as well as natural medicine.
Freia and the children, especially Marie, like to do handicrafts like knitting, crocheting, knotting and sewing. Jonas is very skillfull with woodwork, he has his own workbench in his room and uses it often, making birdhouses.
We all love to do sports and circus stuff, we could teach how to ride the unicycle or how to juggle, or Marie also could teach some figures for aerial silks.
But above all, we are keen to learn new things!!
