Dear Hosts,

What makes me happy is spending time with the people I love, meeting new people, learn about new cultures, listening to music and to dance, to do arts, to cook and bake and to try a lot of new things since I am quite curious but also being in the nature, going for a hike, reading and spending time with animals while enjoying a peaceful or funny time. I am also interested in meditation or other practices that can help you to concentrate on the moment and feel at peace with myself. All in all I am very open and love to discover different places but also skills and Exchange. For me life is about trying and learning new things and connecting with people and discover as much as possible.

For my first Workaway experience I am motivated by going abroad the first time alone, which is quite a big step for me and something that I really wanna do right now, to learn more about myself, get disconnected from the everyday city-life of Berlin and to learn a lot about horses, riding (if possible) and harvesting but also going out of my bubble. In the last year (after graduating from school) especially, but also in the years after Covid-19, I really felt disconnected with myself and tried to make everything as best as possible and beyond. While I want to get better with it and connect with myself again, I also think that living my life again in terms of social relationships, new experiences and adventures, funny activities but also mindfulness and peace is really a goal that I strive for. So, all in all I really want to see the world and discover wonderful cultures, places and meet different people as well as experiencing new things on the one hand, while spending time in the nature away from big cities like Berlin, finding peace and connecting with myself again on the other hand. I also would like to learn from you about language, culture, horses, other animals, harvesting, social relations and different practices and everything else that you would like to show me.

I would love to meet you, work with you and spent a lot of great time with you.

Since I love to gain knowledge about different cultures and meeting new people from all around the globe, I enjoy learning new languages. They are all so different from each other in their sounds, feeling and structure. For me, having the chance to learn some words or get better at languages, in my case mostly Spanish but also English, is a great opportunity. About teaching: Though I am not a teacher of languages and therefore may not be able to teach you a lot in the time we spent together, I would definitely try to teach you/help you with your studies/answer your questions about languages and German culture, if you are interested in this.

So… I wouldn´t say that right now I have many typical “workaway” skills sadly, which I want to change, but I am a good team player, who tries to help others and to achieve things together, and a compassionate person that´s there for others, tries to motivate them, and to find a solution for problems together. This is especially helpful in one of my two profession as a waitress (besides studieng).
I am also quite ambitious and a perfectionist, as well as curious, and I can find an interesting aspect in most things I do. That makes me passionate about many different things which sometimes makes it difficult for me to make decisions, but at the same time makes me a person that doesn´t give up so fast since I really want to make it, even though I sometimes fear to do something wrong if I have to step far beyond the skills that I have. But I really want to learn and do new things and step beyond what I think I am capable of doing, and am a fast learner who tries her best in this process and truly wants to achieve new skills. Last but not least, I would say that I am a creative person even though I sadly lost some of my “creative energy”, which I want to revive.

As for my skills, I really like to cook and think that I am a reasonable cook. Furthermore, I sometimes helped my grandparents in their garden, especially with harvesting different kinds of berries and potatoes.

Right now I am working in the KJBb, the Children and Young People Participation Office (DE: Kinder- und Jugend Beteiligungs Büro), of my barrow and teach children about politics in a playful way, sometimes supervise them and talk with them about what they fear and care for in their lives. I like that job and love to work with the kids and teenagers (age: 9—18) which is also really rewarding.

Finally, I have to say that I only have a small expertise/skill set, but I am really eager to learn all different kinds of skills, from maintenance work to harvesting, animal care, and beyond, but especially about carrying for horses, connecting with them.

PS: My native language is German, and my second language that I learned in school is English, which I visited as an advanced course during my high school diploma and ended it with a level of B2/C1 (according to my diploma, but I never made an iles certificate). My third language was Spanish, which I learned from 6th till 10th grade, but I really have to say that I am quite bad at it since our teacher was often ill and we didn´t learn so much. In the next years, I want to lift my Spanish level up. Since one and a half year I have been studying cultural studies and media studies at Humboldt University.

I would really love to work but also spent a good time with you (and the other workawayers) so that I would enjoy to do activities together and share meals and funny evenings playing games, listen to music, doing a movie night, watching the stars or other things that come in our mind.

  I am allergic to dogs, cats and horses but am actually staying with a Host who has all three kinds of animal and am taking medications which I get from my doctor and it really works very very well. Therefore living, working and cuddling with them shouldn‘

I sadly write this way too late. I stayed with this incredibly lovely family more than a month ago, but there was just too much stress and too many problems back in Berlin. If not for this, I would have written much sooner.

If you think about going to this family and if they are good hosts, the answer is 100% yes. Or… read more even more. Before my stay with them, I was on another farm, and the host was taken off the website. I am going to keep it short: everything that could be wrong definitely was wrong. Just some examples: The house had holes in the wall and a lot of black mould, and a lot of things were broken or did break, and nothing was ever fixed. So I really had doubts about going to this family and actually thought about just taking the next flight when I sat at the airport and waited for the bus to come. But when Margrate, Anne and Gerry picked me up from the bus station at 9 in the evening with big smiles and a very warm welcome, and the girls immediately started to talk about soccer with me like they already knew me, I thought this week may be short, but it will be very special. Well, I was right with the last one and wrong with the first. Yes, it was a week that I stayed with this family, but I experienced so much and was so at peace with myself in this week that it felt way longer. And I enjoyed every day and tried to take as much of it in as possible. Deirdre and Gerry always look out for you and your well-being and never expect much, and if you are not capable of doing something (I sometimes was too weak), it's never a problem.

About the work: you work the whole day normally, but you don't really work. It's more like helping where you can, and I really have to say that I sometimes thought to myself that I hopefully am more of a help than an obstacle for them. Also, you have many very nice talks with Gerry about everything while you help him (you never work alone; instead, you accompany Gerry and help him the best you can), and since I felt like being part of this family (you simply do everything together, e.g., join them for all meals, etc.) and not a worker, I wanted to help them also beside the farm. Like cleaning the kitchen floor now and then or helping in the kitchen. Which is also just totally normal if you live together with other people and the housework really is not much (max. 30 minutes a day or something). And I really always tried to give my best since I wanted to give this family something back because they give you so, so, so much. You have yourself a double bed in an extremely clean en-suite room where you got your own bathroom attached to your room, like wow. I really did love the shower. The whole room complex is a dream, especially after staying at such a dirty house before. Also, you can eat everything, and if you need something (e.g., shampoo, etc.), they're going to buy it for you. Since I had to buy myself everything at the other hosts, the way they treated me was like a shock of warmth. I really was overwhelmed.

Now to the most important part of this stay: the family. This family is made up of three big but extremely lovely and cuddly dogs, the twins: Margaret and Anni, who are just the cutest, with more power than you could imagine and with a very rebellious and stubborn side, who open their heart from the very first second and see you as a friend, and with whom you are going to have a lot of fun (I loved our Starships Dance Sessions and am never going to forget them). Whenever I hear this song, I have to think of you two; Matthew, a quieter boy than his two sisters, is incredibly skilled and smart (you'll see what I mean very fast.) and a very nice person, Deirdre, a super-mother. She is able to handle so many things at the same time (we call it 'being able to bring it under a hat, and she is capable of bringing so much under one that the hat would have to explode because it's so full) and still is very lovely and always up for a nice chat and looks out for you. And Gerry, who you accompany all day and who has as much patience as he has sheep (like, seriously, I made many faults and got many questions, and he was never, never loud or angry or annoyed). But far, far away from all of that. And I really made one or two serious things wrong so that he had more work (e.g., once a sheep escaped because of me). And still he was one of the friendliest, calmest and most patient persons I know, and he never thought of me less or treated me differently after I did things wrong. Furthermore, Gerry always gave me some breaks other than the big lunch break, which I often didn't even want to take because the work was so easy and light that I still had power and wanted to help as much as I could, and because the work and working with Gerry and Deirdre was always funny.

So if you think about going there, don’t hesitate. I only was there for a week, of which I was 3 or 4 days sick, but I left with tears in my eyes and full of unique memories that could easily fill a whole month. And many, many videos and photos which, when I look at them, make me shine with happiness and the feeling of deep luck. I miss all of you and the sheep and am hopefully going to be back next year. (There are workawayers that were there four times already. That tells you how amazing this place is, guys). And I am very, very happy that I didn’t just take the next flight but came to you. Everything I experienced at the other farm, you made it more than worth it because if this place wouldn't have been terrible, I wouldn’t have searched for another host and maybe would have never gone to you. Because of you, the beauty of your country and all the nice people I met (all the neighbours and even Deirdre's parents, who were so, so lovely), I'm never going to forget my time in Ireland, and this wonderful country will always have a special place in my heart.

When I come back next year (hopefully), I am going to bring a lot of Lindor and some special Capri-Sun editions. I promise.
I wish you everything well, and thanks for everything. Really everything. Every smile, all the wonderful meals and all the memories I made at your place (I helped lambs to get born. Guys, you definitely aren’t ready for this. I had tears in my eyes. Every single time.)
