Hello! I’m Enea, a passionate designer, lifelong learner, and cultural enthusiast with a love for art and social studies. My diverse background and international experiences have shaped my journey, and I’m all about making a positive impact through my actions, work and relationships.

Throughout my life, I have moved around and lived in many places, including Italy, Uruguay, Argentina, and the United States. This mobility has made me accustomed to being around new people. I am a sociable person, and many would describe me as an extrovert (at least most of the time). I enjoy sharing my culture and learning from others. I love to talk, think I am a good listener, and enjoy learning new things from people around me.

This is not casual! I come from a pretty international background– my dad’s Italian and my mom’s Argentinian with Venezuelan roots. I was born near Florence but moved to Uruguay when I was young, so I’ve always been moving around surrounded by different people and cultures. This mix means I speak both Spanish and Italian fluently, and my English is pretty solid too.

Growing up in an artist’s house, I always loved drawing and painting. I haven’t had as much time for it lately because of my studies, but I’m getting back into it. I also loved building things with my friends, which made me pretty handy with tools and good at fixing and reusing stuff. These hobbies led me to study design.

My academic adventure started in Turin, where I studied transportation design for almost four years. During that time, I developed a solid background in traditional product design and communication. After a couple of internships in the automotive sector, I graduated but felt a bit lost in the field of design I was entering. To figure things out, I decided to pursue a master’s degree to critically analyze my own design practice. Thanks to a generous scholarship, I moved to Los Angeles to attend ArtCenter College of Design for a Master of Science in Transportation Systems & Design.

During my MS studies, I began to de-idealize the traditional figure of the designer and question the implications of my own practice. Consequently, my work explores how design can serve as a means of generating knowledge, critical inquiry, and synthesis. I view design as a mode of research that creates spaces for new contextual questions and allows for bottom-up responses, as opposed to top-down problem-solving approaches. Growing up in between two different political realities nurtured my interest in politics and activism, which I try to reflect in my professional practice as a designer and brings me closer to creative fields.

In my recent work, I have focused on community-based speculative futures workshops aimed at thinking about empowering alternatives in gentrifying areas. The goal of these workshops is not to “solve gentrification,” but to subvert the powerlessness against market-driven developments and create space for active conversations about resistance. In this context, visual language is used as a tool to channel and visualize emotions, fears, and dissatisfaction about the future while initiating discussions about collective action and alternatives. I have always enjoyed studying, as there is something about the process of interpreting, connecting, and analyzing that I find fascinating. This passion for learning has been a constant throughout my life, shaping the person I am today.

I have recently graduated and am working on my application to a doctorate program in Design Research. I aspire to be both a professor and a researcher, focusing on the critical view of technology as it intersects with design practice and its implications for historically neglected groups. I aim to contribute to a more socially and environmentally sustainable use of technology and redefine the concept of “innovation.”

In addition to my professional career, some of my other passions and pastimes are reading, drawing, cooking and a variety of sports. I grew up cycling and even used to repair and sell vintage road bikes while I was in the US. Being a cultural mix between Italy and Uruguay, I have always played soccer wherever I’ve been. Other sports I practiced during my high school years include rugby, tennis, and ping-pong, and most recently, I’ve started learning pickleball, which is really popular in California.

Last but not least, I am interested in spending some time in Switzerland, as my partner, Carolina, works and lives in Zurich. After almost three years apart, I would like to be near her and explore new opportunities in this beautiful country.

I’m a culture-loving multilingual enthusiast. I speak Italian fluently thanks to my dad and Spanish natively from my mom. I've lived in Italy for 9 years, Uruguay for 12 years, and California for 3 years. My passion for languages extends beyond just speaking them; I think of language beyond the limits of communication, but as a door into a culture, its society, dynamics, everydayness and history. I like to study language through various angles, like media, pop culture, art, geography and history; as a way to build a broader and holistic net of associations and meanings.
