Hello!

I’m Dom, from Devon, England. I’m 32.

I’m coming back to Workaway after almost a decade doing other things. I first used it in 2016, when I went to France and met some amazing people. I then stayed in Montpellier for almost a year to teach English.

Since then, I have mostly worked as an English language teacher, and have spent time teaching in Thailand and England, and online.

In my life I have had lots of different jobs, and, in addition to teaching, have experience in the following areas: hospitality/restaurants, writing, gardening, woodwork, Special Educational Needs (assistant), IT, construction, graphic design, filmmaking, personal assistance.

I love travelling and experiencing new cultures. I’m definitely a Francophile and am especially into French cinema and literature. I speak intermediate French and want to improve my level. I’m keen to engage in conversation exchanges and enjoy helping people improve their English. I have also taught creative writing and am a passionate writer. (I’m currently working on a book of very short stories, soon to be published.)

In my spare time, I like hiking, cooking, playing music (guitar, percussion, voice), writing, reading, swimming, birdwatching, being outdoors. Other interests of mine include cinema, tai chi, literature, and community choirs. Wherever there is the chance to learn a new skill, I'm always ready to get stuck in!

I grew up in the countryside and, having lived in cities since I left home, I’ve now come back to the town I'm from. I love the peace and quiet of the countryside and the opportunity to see wildlife.

TEFL qualified - very happy to help people with their English skills.
Passionate about food - lots of experience in the kitchen.
Gardening - I love being out in the garden; planting, digging, chopping wood etc., very happy doing that kind of thing.
Communication - in addition to teaching, I've worked in customer service, so have skills in that area, particularly in the world of hospitality.
Other relevant areas where I have experience and skills are: cleaning, computers (internet + software), music, writing, , painting + decorating, DIY.
I'm a fast learner and love being challenged with something I haven't done before!

I love games, especially board games and parlour games, but also ones played outdoors like boules, Mölkky, and table tennis.

I'm obsessed with music, which is more than a hobby; it's a passion. I play classical guitar and enjoy singing in choirs. I particularly like folk and trad and am trying to learn more of it on the guitar.
