Introduction

We are a mother-daughter team excited to experience the world through cultural exchanges. I am a retired professional photographer, animal caregiver, and artist, while my daughter, Lili (25), is a dedicated horsewoman, hard worker, and natural with animals. Together, we bring enthusiasm, reliability, and a love for hands-on work in all settings.

Why We Want to Workaway

We are spending six weeks in Portugal, traveling from Braga to Lagos, with the goal of immersing ourselves in local communities while exploring the country. We hope to find a future home and build meaningful connections along the way. We love working with animals, helping on farms, and engaging with locals. Our ideal stay would allow us to contribute to animal care, maintain gardens, and house repairs, while also learning from our hosts and exploring nearby areas. Whether it’s learning new skills, sharing meals, or exchanging stories, we cherish the chance to build lasting relationships and immerse ourselves in different ways of life.

What We Offer

Animal Whisperers: Between us, we have decades of experience with horses, dogs, cats, chickens, falcons, and even owls! I am a licensed Falconer of 12 years in the USA. Lili has extensive horse experience. I have raised, rehabilitated, and cared for a variety of animals and am comfortable with everything from feeding routines to medical care.

Farm & Garden Enthusiasts: We love working outdoors—gardening, maintaining land, and assisting with farm/garden tasks. I have years of experience tending vineyards, vegetable gardens, and fruit trees, while Lili is no stranger to mucking stalls and farm upkeep.

Reliable & Resourceful: Whether managing an off-grid property, troubleshooting fencing, or ensuring a home runs smoothly in an owner’s absence, we bring problem-solving skills, dependability, and a proactive attitude to any situation.

Artistic Exchange: I had a successful portrait photography business for 15 years. As an artist, I use my surroundings as inspiration, sketching and painting the landscapes, animals, and homes where we stay—often leaving pieces behind as a thank-you gift for our hosts.

Our Ideal Exchange

We’re looking for a Workaway opportunity that allows us to contribute meaningfully while also engaging with the host and local community. Whether sharing meals, learning traditional skills, or participating in cultural events, we hope to connect deeply with the places we visit. If the host is absent, we’d appreciate any local contacts for recommendations on the best hidden gems, activities, and day trips.

We are happy to rent a car during our stay but would greatly appreciate the opportunity to use a host’s vehicle when available. We also enjoy taking day trips (join us, please!) to explore neighboring towns, historical sites, and nature spots, making the most of our time in the region.

We look forward to sharing skills, learning from you, and contributing to your home and land with care and enthusiasm!

Painting & Restoration: We LOVE to paint—walls, furniture, fences—you name it! Whether refreshing a space or tackling a creative project, we enjoy the transformation process.
Heavy-Duty Cleaning: We dive into deep-cleaning challenges with enthusiasm, making homes shine and feel refreshed.
Gardening & Outdoor Work: As passionate gardeners, we’re no strangers to shoveling, pruning, planting, and maintaining outdoor spaces.
Animal Care & Rehabilitation: From farm animals to wildlife rehab to elderly pet care, we have experience feeding, medicating, and handling various animals with care and patience.
Healthcare & Caregiving: I have worked as a midwife’s assistant, elderly caregiver, and animal rehabber. Lili is a certified phlebotomist, trained lifeguard, and experienced animal caretaker.
Photography & Editing: I have professional experience in photography and photo editing, capturing moments beautifully.
Social & Community-Oriented: We are outgoing, love socializing, and enjoy meaningful cultural exchanges. We are empathetic, good listeners, and always open to learning and sharing our experiences.
