    Hola, I'm Alejandro!

After many years living in different places, both in Spain and abroad, I've returned to the city where I was born, Oviedo.

As I have been living outside of Asturias for more than 13 years, I would like to collaborate with projects and people who are living here in a way closer to how I've been feeling over time: with a close relationship to the environment, understanding how it works and being a part of it, trying to be more aware of our way of being, our way of consuming, our way of relating to it and to the rest of animals, habitat and people.
I would like to expand my knowledge and skills, share and learn about topics such as agriculture, permaculture, (bio)construction, farming, off-grid living, arts, efficiency and sustainability, animal care...

Since I was a child, I've known that my life had to be outdoors, contemplating how the world transforms with each season, exploring, immersing myself in the serenity that the natural environment can offer. Although I wasn't always fully aware of it, this tendency to seek out the countryside, to observe and learn, to find the joy of hearing the first swift of the season or to find myself in the stillness of the trees has always been a constant in me.

In recent years, this connection with nature has become clearer than ever, and I feel I must continue along that path. Over time, I have understood that my passion for the environment and wildlife is not just a hobby where I can find peace and fulfillment, but I want it to be a way of living, learning and contributing and I'm considering moving to the countryside, building my own house with straw bales, being as self-sufficient as possible and living simply and peacefully. I want to be part of a community that wants to live in a way that prioritizes equality, local values, caring, and respect for others and the environment.

My first experience as a Workawayer began 9 years ago when I started my first solo trip. Between 2016 and 2019, mostly in Asia and America, I collaborated on various projects such as organic farms, animal care, social initiatives and environmental protection, volunteer management, wildlife sighting and monitoring, tracking and exploration, cultural exchange or supporting the local community.
Some of the fantastic people and projects I met were through the Couchsurfing platform (which is now a subscription business model, unfortunately, and I can't access it anymore, not even to view or share my profile).

In the last few years I've combined my work as a manager in different hospitality establishments (campsites and cocktail bars) with the the position of housesitter and petsitter caring for homes, gardens, and animals (mostly dogs, cats, and chickens) in the countryside in Catalunya and Andalucía.
These housesitting experiences were primarily through the Mindmyhouse platform. Our profile (it was shared with the woman with whom I shared my life) is not active anymore, but I've been able to get the testimonials of some of the house owners:

I hope we meet on the way and we can colaborate, learn and enjoy from each other.

    Un saludo!!

  • Que habilidades tienes?

I've lots of experience working and volunteering in different environments, countries and situations; with people of different ages, nationalities and backgrounds. All of this has made me a very flexible and adaptable person who understands that before being a worker or a volunteer, we are all individuals with our own circumstances, so, by talking and making an effort to face each other's points of view, there's always room for understanding, mutual learning and laughts.
I've led many work teams and volunteers groups and I've always tried to apply all this experience, listening and learning from others and creating, together, a work environment that is both effective and kind and respectful.

    - I've extensive experience creating and teaching work teams in the, very often hostile, hospitality industry.
    - I also have extensive experience in caring for pets (often with lots of them around), as well as in gardening and vegetable production for personal consumption and some farming. I've always had plants at home so I feel very comfortable with them and their care.
    - I've some knowledge of construction, I know how to use tools and last year I trained in straw bale bioconstruction, where we were taught how to build our own house from the foundation to the roof. Also basic masonry, plumbing and electrical skills.
    - I'm an avid birdwatcher with plenty of knowledge about birds and their habits, and also a big fan of botany and the natural world in general.
    - An insatiable learner, an inveterate self-taught person, I've also trained and have some experience in fields such as creative writing, scientific illustration, drawing, e-commerce (through UNED), energy efficiency, sailing, diving or music (after many years of carrying them, I'm learning some percussion and ukulele the last few months... what a cliché!).
    - Also, I've got a degree in Business Administration and Management and professional knowledge in cocktails and bartending.

  • Algo más...

I'm looking forward to meeting people and projects where I can help and work with all my enthusiasm and camaraderie while I continue learning, growing and getting inspired along the way.
I really enjoy getting my hands dirty at work and triying to find solutions to any issue that arises.

I'm a curious and sociable person who enjoys and needs time alone, so I can work in a team or by myself without problem. I'm calm and not picky at all, not afraid to do things I've never done before, just the opposite, I love to learn new skills and abilities.
I love everything about animals, working outside, enjoying the nature, reading, writing, swimming on the sea, walking during hours, discovering different places...

I like trying to understand the world, myself and the people and how all of that comes together.

    Let's collaborate!
