Alex was my very first Workaway host, and I couldn’t have asked for a better first experience! From the beginning, Alex made me feel welcome and comfortable in his home. He’s kind, open-minded and respectful, and communication was always easy. He was also very inclusive and invited me to join his hobbies, which I appreciated, and I really enjoyed our conversations during my stay. My main task was walking Shelby, which never felt like work at all and was such a joy! Shelby is a sweet, friendly and well-behaved dog, and we spent a lot of time at the dog park — definitely one of the highlights of my days. Overall, it was a very positive and easy-going Workaway experience with a great balance between help and free time. I would absolutely recommend staying with Alex and Shelby and would be happy to come back!

I enjoyed a totally awesome time with Janine, her family and all the team who were so welcoming and kind and provided a great cultural and language exchange. Although I have volunteered in many places across the world this was my first workaway experience and Janine is an exemplary caring host, offering a really enjoyable experience. She was generous with her time and allowing me time to settle in and so supportive throughout my stay. Janine responded really promptly to my initial enquiry and as was able to offer me an opportunity at quite short notice which was much appreciated. It was so enjoyable to volunteer in the Colchagua valley. My role was very clear and I enjoyed the opportunity to meet and greet visitors from across Chile and the world. It was an excellent language and cultural exchange, my Spanish improved in the three weeks and I enjoyed using my other language skills of English, Portuguese, German and French as needed. I loved volunteering and being part of the team, everyone was so supportive and positive and the cultural exchange was wonderful and deepened my understanding of Chile. The area is so friendly with breathtakingly views across the vineyards to the Andes. Local travel is really easy and a super way to explore, plus walking. The volunteer houses as described, with all facilities, including good Wi-Fi and a quiet courtyard garden in a great location. There is a bi-weekly fresh food market with delicious local produce and lots of cafes and shops close by. This was such a super start to my travels and volunteering in Chile, beyond my expectations, which I am so thankful for. I hope to return and wish Janine and her amazing family and all the team great happiness and success 💗

Lorna and Louis are such a nice couple. They were always ready to help. In short time, they helped a lot. Since they were traveling with their van, it was way easier for us to accommodate them. I'm glad we met. Best wishes.

I got to stay with Barbara, Geert and Roemer for a month this autumn and it was amazing! They are hardworking and kind, and you can tell that they’re passionate about what they’re doing. I loved helping on the property – my daily tasks included some cleaning work, helping in the kitchen and painting the garden furniture, which I enjoyed most :) Barbara and Geert were also always willing to adapt the work to my needs (for example working inside, when it was too cold or making small changes to the work hours), which I greatly appreciated! They both value open communication and that really contributes to the great atmosphere of their home! I could come to them when I had problems or doubts and we would work it out together. We had great conversations at the dinner table and I will really miss joking with Geert and eating Barbara’s food, which was always delicious and very healthy. Roemer and Barbara also introduced me to some new board games – I will definitely miss those evenings in your cozy living room. Overall, I felt really included and taken care of in their home and I can recommend a stay to everyone who likes a quiet and rural lifestyle! I loved being part of your family and I hope we stay in touch! Greetings from Austria :)

I helped with the olive harvest and cleaning. Fouad and his wife were very enthusiastic. Fouad prepared traditional Moroccan food for the volunteers. He is very talkative. I learned a lot about Morocco. I am very grateful to another volunteer from Switzerland. Since I don't understand French, she helped with the translation. If you're eager to experience rural village life in Morocco, this is a good option.

« On a bien mangé On a bien bu On a la peau du ventre bien tendu » These three little lines from a French song could never fully sum up our experience at Chhime’s place! But they do reflect the warm and generous welcome she gave us. These two weeks were truly wonderful. From all the moments we shared to the beautiful setting in which this farm is nestled, everything made the experience special. Laughter mixed with deeper conversations. Chhime’s openness and her desire to share her culture only fueled our curiosity and our wish to explore more of this country that was completely new to us. We are so happy to know that a small part of us will live on in the bread made from the wheat we helped plant! We just hope it won’t be too “slimy” hahaha. In short, thank you so much for this amazing experience. It will stay forever in our little travelers’ minds ❤️

Dear Liane, First of all, we don’t want you to go. The past few months have been a very rocky road for us, and at first we thought it might not be the right time to accept a Workawayer. But choosing to welcome you was truly one of the best decisions we could have made. You have been such a great help, and your presence never cost us energy — instead, you brought positivity into our home. You became part of our family and our daily lives very naturally. We never needed to give you constant instructions; you simply saw what needed to be done and did it. And whenever we asked for your help, you did everything perfectly. We’ve told you this many times, but it’s worth saying again. Please don’t forget to tell your parents that they did an amazing job raising you. They are very lucky to have you, and they must be incredibly proud of you. At just 19 years old, you are so brave to travel alone and stay in a stranger’s home — we have a lot of respect for you. Enjoy Amsterdam with your friend, and enjoy life. We truly hope to see you again one day. With much love and gratitude, Daan & Demiah

We had a nice little stay at jays and Johns and charlies home. We helped with a project around the garden and some cleaning. They offered us a really nice room with an own bathroom on top. We also enjoyed some yummy lunch and an Indian dinner together. Both of them traveled a lot and have many stories to tell. Thank you ! :)

It was my first Workaway experience, and I truly couldn’t have imagine a better place for my first one. When I first arrived on bonhomie, I told Anne that I was feeling nervous and a little shaky. She thanked me for sharing how I felt, and that moment showed how warm and genuinely caring she is toward people. Her place works almost like a small community center for homeschool families. Anne suggested running art workshop for homeschooling children, and during my stay I led six workshops using traditional Korean art materials, as well as Korean food workshops. It became one of the most memorable parts of my time there. Beyond the workshops, Anne and Daniel welcomed me fully into their daily life. Every Thursday evening was filled with jam sessions, music, and visitors. Daniel’s music added even more warmth and an artistic vibe to the home. Anne’s touch brings beauty into every corner of the house, and their way of living - creative, sustainable and deeply heartfelt - was inspiring everyday. I truly recommend this place to anyone who enjoys spending time with children’s, sharing their own experiences and knowledge, and who is curious about living a different way of life. There is bus stop near to Anne’s home, and if you install the Rejsebillet app in advance, using public transportation is quite easy. I’m deeply grateful for the time that I spent with this wonderful artist couple and their lovable & wild four boys, and I know these memories will stay me for a long long time :)

We feel very fortunate to have got Orpheus as a workawayer. I’ve lost track of all the work he did - with his green fingers he planted garlic, lettuce, blueberries and more, protected our bananas, and cared for hundreds of seedlings and cuttings. He made our greenhouse great! Inside he washed up and dried up, cooked Orpheus Originals (he's a very creative cook!), and generously shared his time. He hung out with our older son, taught our younger son how to draw, and gave me lots of advice as I was publishing a picture book. He 's also good for music creation and jam sessions! Basically we got a new family member as committed to our project as any of us - we were very sad to see him go, but happy that a future visit feels inevitable!

Erika came and got on with a lot of work around the house and garden with a minimum of supervision. She planted figs and harvested gingko nuts, gojiberry and goumi, turning the berries into marvellous jam! It was inspiring watching her turn our seasonal bits and bobs into deliciousness. Erika was only here for a couple of weeks but we made more than our fair share of good memories - including great chats, lunchtime gastronomy sessions (e.g. salmon crepes), card games, music appreciation society, jam sessions (she's got a great voice and knows her way round a guitar) and dinner around the fire. Her presence here felt so natural. She became part of our family, including our boys naturally and treating them like adults (well, fun adults), and sharing her insights with them about being of mixed-race heritage. She is self-confident, tough, and cool, and we'd love to have her back!

Thanks David, local family and volunteers for an amazing week at Lagom Hill Farm! This my first Workaway experience and it was excellent!! Very encouraged to do more volunteering. The accommodations in a shared 6 bunk bedroom with wide beds and privacy curtains was very comfortable and felt homey. We kept the place very clean. We had breakfast in town and it was nice to have a little morning walk and explore various food options before our morning gardening duties. Lunch and dinner was prepared for us by a local family and it was always delicious. Tried lots of new fruits and local dishes. After lunch and a siesta we resumed work for a bit again. We had the weekend off and some of us explored a hot springs water park nearby which was relaxing. David is a very caring young man and took excellent care of us. I wish him all the best in this beautiful project for kids. The Swedish concept of lagom (just enough) was felt throughout the stay. We had just enough time to relax on our own, enjoy the company of each other and also help David with his project. I highly recommend this place if you want to enjoy a week in the quiet country side. I enjoyed it all, the place, the other volunteers, the gardening, the food.

This was my first workaway experience and it couldn’t have been better! Peter is a really great guy and his place is absolutely amazing. We helped him with gardening and a few building projects. Peter gave really good instructions and it was fun to work in his company. The afternoons we’d spend making music together, playing games and going swimming in a little river spot not far from his property. He even took us surfing one time and we got to join him for his yoga class. I had the absolute best time staying with Peter and can only recommend it! Thank you Peter:)

I am so grateful for the time I got to work here this fall and winter! Sarah and her family welcomed me in and put me to work right away. As a workawayer here you will have the opportunity to contribute in so many different ways including forest restoration, gardening, and house upkeep. I learned so much about the history of Portland and the environmental justice issues impacting the city living with this family! The cabin next to the forest the best nights sleep ever especially with the pitter patter of rain on the roof. On other nights the calls of owls and bellows of boats in the river below lull you to sleep. You might occasionally share a room with a spider being near the forest, but they are gracious roommates and tend to keep to themselves. If you get the opportunity to work here, say yes!

We had a fantastic time at Raoul’s. We really enjoyed getting to know him, exploring the area, and the accommodation here is really spectacular. We did all sorts of work which was very fair, and we had plenty of autonomy to choose when to work and what to work on. Misty Mountain is a beautiful property with amazing improvements from Raoul (and other workawayers!). It was great to work on projects that made an immediate impact to fit the vision for the property. Raoul is a lovely person and we feel lucky to have met him and spent time sharing food, drinks, and good conversation with him.

It was an absolute pleasure to have Laura and Eline stay with us as. From the moment they arrived they were delightful. They brought such a light, bubbly, and uplifting energy into our home, and it was immediately clear they were going to be fun to have around. They were warm, easy to be with, and quickly felt like part of the household rather than just guests. Alongside their great personalities, they were also exceptionally helpful. They were hardworking, diligent, and completely reliable, showing great initiative and a real attention to detail in everything they did. They were always respectful of us and our property, very tidy, and consistently cleaned up after themselves without needing to be asked. Beyond the work, they were simply great company, making the three weeks they spent with us genuinely enjoyable. We feel very lucky to have had them stay with us and wish them all the best for their future travels. Any host would be fortunate to welcome Laura and Helene into their home.
