Our organisation operates a huge wildlife reserve (300,000 acres) in southern Namibia, its actually an umbrella reserve that brings smaller reserves, farms and other properties together to form one massive reserve. We are located in southern Namibia and host Succulent and Nama Karoo biomes as well as desert biome, we have mountain ranges, sandy and gravel plains and 90km of Orange River frontage as our southern border. Leopard, brown hyena, Angolan giraffe, oryx, kudu, caracal, honey badger, aardvark, mountain zebra, eland and many more reside here.
We are working to ecologically restore almost 2 million acres, bring back the mega-fauna that has become locally extinct, increase wildlife populations, develop livelihood opportunities for indigenous communities, community outreach, develop monitoring and research programs, build/develop management infrastructure, grow tourism etc. Its incredibly exciting what we have started here that has the potential to be one of the biggest conservation stories in Africa and change the fortunes of the indigenous Nama communities.
Red lives at HQ and manages all the operations on the ground and he has a small team of wonderful workers from the local Nama people and his dog Hushpuppy. Red is from the UK but has been working in conservation in Kenya, Tanzania and Namibia for the past 10 years.
We have 3 locally paid staff at HQ, Sienna and Gerald are farm hands who run the garden and maintain water points and fences throughout our section of the reserve. Angelina is our wonderful housekeeper who cleans the cottages and looks after us so well.

We work very closely with the Nama people and implement and operate numerous projects with them, we are always looking to creatively develop our community outreach and anyone with skills and/or a passion for this will be fantastic. This would involve you learning about the traditional Nama culture and the current issues, problems and needs they are going through and developing solutions that involve participatory planning and implementation between yourself and the community.
Our community focused programs operate as four pillars - Wildlife conservation; Livelihood development; Food security; Education
You'll have the opportunity to learn a lot about yourself, a lot about the beautiful Nama culture including their click language, and a lot about the different fortunes and pathways the different cultures around the world end up on.
You can also benefit from a culture exchange between yourself and the Natural World, the wilderness here is so vast that deep connections our made with our ancestral past and here you gain a deep perspective on what is important in life. You will learn all about conservation management and ecology and your will be empowered to develop your own projects.
We are a business and some of the help we need is with business activities, for these activities we offer accommodation and at least the minimum wage for each hour worked.
Beyond this, the range of ways travellers can help that is not business related is very broad, some of the and we can discuss further when you make contact and plans are constantly changing but you can get involved in:
It should be noted some of the jobs are very physical but you are not expected to do these if you don't want, furthermore we don't crack the whip here, if you wanna come and just get stuck into a few super chilled projects and mainly just absorb the wilderness then that's cool also. Its the community and vibes that matter most here and so whatever makes you most happy you can get stuck into. See below for business-related activities and non-business-related activities:
• Funding proposal writing
• Assist in developing/implementing/achieving our fundraising plan
• Project reporting and evaluation
• Assistance in developing business/implementation plans for the community projects
• Someone willing to stay for a longer period to act as a operations manager
• GIS mapping
• Vehicle track building
• Mountain bike track building
• Ecological research
• Community engagement

• Camera trapping

We have a sweet three bedroom (inc 2 ensuite bathrooms) cottage with living room and kitchen inc fridge cooker pots pans etc.
Then we have two more ensuite bedrooms that attached onto a brand new kitchen, living room, veranda extension.
We provide accommodation but not food. But any food grown in the permaculture garden is free to eat for workawayers.
Accommodation is self catered.
We have land cruisers and Land Rover for you to drive around the reserve/get jobs done.
The nearest village is Warmbad and nearest town where you would do food shopping is Karasburg about 1.5hrs away, for food shopping you can jump in one our our cars when we do a town run. Depending on experience on driving 4x4 on gravel roads workawayers may be able to drive themselves.
Time off - we have a reservoir/swimming pool (that we are turning into a natural pool this year) at HQ that everyone is welcome to use.
You've welcome to head off on safari around southern Namibia or the whole of Namibia whenever you want although we can't provide vehicles for this. For more local downtime, the local towns and villages haven't got anything in the way of attractions, here it is mainly about connecting deeply with the vast wilderness.
